First listen, cool tune, definitely has all the ingredient to be a hit song as you mentioned. It is interesting why this song didn't get the radio play on our side of the pond. If it did't I probably would have loved it more vs a first listen.
@JeromeDukes Yeah, they have many albums out and we only got a couple of singles released here that is why Nirth Americans of think of them as a one hit wonder but we would be wrong as they have many hits 🤩💙
This song is about "partnercide". He's shot her and now she's dead, he's asking her to talk to him ("t wasn't the rain that washed out the color of your eyes") Melancholy lyrics with an upbeat song, typical of many 80s bands. I love this, I bought this album when it came out. I recommend "The Living Daylights" from the soundtrack of the Bond movie. And don't forget about the unplugged MTV versions of Take on Me and The Living Daylights.
It wasn't the rain that washed away... Rinsed out the colours of your eyes Putting the gun down on the bedside table I must have realized It wasn't the rain That made no difference And I could have sworn it wasn't me Yet I did it all so coldly Almost slowly Plain for all to see Oh c'mon please now Talk to me Tell me things I could find helpful How can I stop now Is there nothing I can do I have lost my way I've been losing you I can still hear our screams competing You're hissing your s's like a snake Now in the mirror stands Half a man I thought no one could break It wasn't the rain That made no difference Nervously drumming on:Run away But I want the guilt to get me Thoughts to wreck me Preying on my mind So, please now Talk to me Tell me things I could find helpful For how can I stop now Is there nothing I can do I have lost my way I've been losing you a-ha always has dark lyrics rapped up in uptempo music.
There it was! And it's one of my biggest favorites as well. Fantastic! I sit on pins and needles every time for fear that the reactor will turn off the song before the end. Fortunately, it usually goes well. Nice to see you got the gist of the music and I see you have the lyrics in another comment so you know it's not as funny as it seems. I think that through the music they masterfully manage to convey the despair in the message; a man who desperately admits that he has killed the woman in what I perceive to be an ambivalent relationship. Even the break in the middle of the song has a function; what he has done will haunt him, and when he finally finds peace it will come back full force.
Hey Ahkkariq, I am so glad I hit one of your favourites. The melody is very upbeat with heavy lyrics...great contrast. There will be more for you in the future 🤩💜
@@playitagainsue It's nice to have friends that you may not see very often, but when you meet it's as if you saw each other a week ago. I appreciate it, Sue. Thanks for the reaction!
@@UnhandyCandy280 Yes, and with a-ha you can see it well. I considered adding a couple of suggestions from the midterm, but she's already reacted to Summer moved on, so it's not completely open. We have to keep her warm, and there will probably be more.
Hi Sue! You really got this one! Still waiting for your reaction to the «The Sun Always Shines on TV» follow up: «Train of Thought». As mentioned before, they are back to animation «Take on Me»-style in this one. Finger’s crossed😊
Nice Choice This guy has a great voice Now don’t hold this against for this but there was a time when Synth Pop got too much for me and AHA were one band i didn’t warm to . But there is a happy ending Sometime ( maybe 10 years ago ) AHA did an MTV unplugged show I guess for MTV Europe ( Hey MTV USA brimg back music ) Anyway all there hits reimagined acoustically and this album I really like ; with a great cover of Killing Moon At time he sounds like Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music
@@playitagainsue Since it is the only song you knew, you should check out the MTV unplugged version of Take on me. There are many great songs, so it is easily pushed down the list, but it is such a great example of a song that totally changes character and hits you hard.
Hey Suzi, very dark. What I got is that it could be showcasing domestic violence. It sounds like he may have killed her? Is that the gist? I may have to listen again. As I said to someone else, I love dark lyrics with upbeat melodies
THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS - the song is AWESOME and the video is AWESOME, too!
Thanks Anibal 😊
Wooo Hoo, another a-ha reaction! Love it, thank you Sue!
Woo Hoo is right, Suzi! They are so good. There will be more A-HA 🤩💚

Definitely should checkout Manhattan skyline from the same album. Another soft verse which then explodes into a heavy rock chorus.
Also, another partly animated/creative video. Good suggestion👍😊
Train of Thought was my fav x

Thanks for the overview, Amy. Very dark lyrics....great song 🤩
Morten was a dish. Great tune x
That false ending caught out many a radio DJ back in the day.
I can see why, Mark 🤩

It wasn't the rain that washed away...
Rinsed out the colours of your eyes
Putting the gun down on the bedside table
I must have realized
It wasn't the rain
That made no difference
And I could have sworn it wasn't me
Yet I did it all so coldly
Almost slowly
Plain for all to see
Oh c'mon please now
Talk to me
Tell me things I could find helpful
How can I stop now
Is there nothing I can do
I have lost my way
I've been losing you
I can still hear our screams competing
You're hissing your s's like a snake
Now in the mirror stands
Half a man
I thought no one could break
It wasn't the rain
That made no difference
Nervously drumming on:Run away
But I want the guilt to get me
Thoughts to wreck me
Preying on my mind
So, please now
Talk to me
Tell me things I could find helpful
For how can I stop now
Is there nothing I can do
I have lost my way
I've been losing you
a-ha always has dark lyrics rapped up in uptempo music.
Hey Mark, I love it when bands do that...such a contrast and always so powerful 🤩💜
Even the lyrics to take on me are actually very melancholy and sad
Haha no way my favourite a-ha song
🤩💙
Please listen to more a-ha songs, yes! "Dark is the Night for All" in their Johannesburg is a wonderful performance too!
