US Air Date: October 2, 2022
Starring: Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, Bailey Bass
    Network: AMC
Synopsis: A sensuous, contemporary reinvention of Anne Rice’s revolutionary gothic novel, Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire follows Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) and Claudia’s (Bailey Bass) epic story of love, blood, and the perils of immortality, as told to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian). Chafing at the limitations of life as a Black man in 1900s New Orleans, Louis finds it impossible to resist the rakish Lestat de Lioncourt’s offer of the ultimate escape: joining him as his vampire companion. But Louis’s intoxicating new powers come with a violent price, and the introduction of Lestat’s newest fledgling, the child vampire Claudia, soon sets them on a decades-long path of revenge and atonement.

I get the impression that most people know this despite protests otherwise, but Lestat and Louis were a couple in the books - their first kiss was in The Vampire Lestat and in Realms of Atlantis (after several ups and downs admittedly) they're basically married. Anne Rice planned out a whole wedding for them online. It's definitely not something the show invented.
This trailer actually has a scene that is fairly similar to Blood Communion (where they're dancing together in the fancy costumes). The film was great and I personally love it, but it never got to the point where it was able to truly show Louis and Lestat's messy relationship as a romance. The books will still be there and so will the film, I'm excited to see what the show is going to do!

true, but in the first book they were not 'really' lovers. i mean, they were in love with each other ofc but it's implied that louis repressed his feelings for lestat.
In this series their relationship is very different

@@Missfreija Oh yeah, sure, they're taking a lot of details about their relationship from later books instead of strictly sticking to the first. I've been wanting a new version of this to cleanse the aftertaste of Tom and Brad. Unfortunately, Tom and Brad's version was closer to the books. Why do directors/producers see that fans love a story but insist on changing it from what we grew to love into something that they hope will help them make their mark. Louis was not black, and he was not a party animal. He was tall, very introverted and read a lot of books. It was the fact that he was so different from Lestat that drew Lestat to him. And that makeup makes the Lestat actor look far older than the early twenties he was written to be. If it's good, really good, I can forgive the sin of sucking the life out of some of my favorite books.

Having said that, I think the chemistry between Lestat and Louis is certainly palpable, and the acting standards high, but as an avid reader I confess I am nonetheless disappointed at the constant reinvention of beloved characters for the sake of being pc at a token level rather than writing new stories and inventing new characters, which would have a decidedly larger and more meaningful impact.

Louis owning a brothel bothers me. It's like they completely changed his "spirit" to something shady as opposed to tormented (I don't really care about the race swapping or even the change in era, but his personality is something I'd like to see in the show, so I'm hoping that comes through).
Claudia needed to be a girl though. That was an intrinsic part of her character; not only was she decades old stuck in the body of a child, but she retained the emotional and interpersonal development of a child even as she grew in knowledge and wisdom. It was torturous for her, yet it informed her cruelty.

There's an obvious reason for Claudia being cast by a teenager: kids grow. This is a television show, not a movie. Claudia is a vampire. She can't be growing. So, she needed to be a teenager. Could they have gotten a younger looking one? Absolutely. And they should have. But teens that look like children are hard to find. And even then, as the years pass they lose that look. So, I think they did a reasonable job with finding someone who is unlikely to change in appearance as this show hits a few years in running.
