Delana Johnson She was right to fight for that role. Even Betty White, (who was targeted for the role originally), admitted that she would never have thought to bring the elements that Rue brought to the character.
Yes she did ! I love Rue as Blanche . Betty White was originally supposed to play Blanche but I don’t think she would have been as good for the Role . It was meant for Rue and she DELIVERED ! 💛
My favorite Blanche line was when a solider had called her and said he was coming over but she couldn't remember who he was. Dorothy said surely she'd recognize him once he came to the door. Blanche said, "He's going to be standing up and wearing clothes, how am I supposed to recognize him like that??" Lmfao! Only Blanche could have said that. RIP Rue.

Blanche was a great character, she was sexually liberated and unapologetic about it; this was unheard of especaially given the fact that she was an older female character
My favorite Blanche moment is when she pretends that her granddaughter, Aurora is her daughter when she gets involved with a actor, played by Alan Rachins, and she talks about having "another baby" and Dorothy tells her, " Wait a few years, medicare will pay for it" and Sophia comes back with " Why wait. Have it now, and the national enquirer will pay for it."
There is a reason Blanche never reveals her age. There's a episode when Blanche visits her mother at the nursing home and her mother gives her advice that "A real lady never reveals her real age"
Ignacy Stefańczyk They spent like half the episode making every short joke in the book without actually saying the word 'midget', if I remember right. Calling someone a shrimp is another way to call them short
All are hilarious and classic but “[normal voice] he’s not feeling very well [husky voice] so we thought we’d have you over for a “drank” gets me every time!
My funniest moment of Blanche is when she said with a straight face that she was mistaken for a schoolgirl but it was the look on Dorothy's face that had me laughing like a maniac 😂
This was great. But my favorite Blanche line is, “Real southerners are compassionate people who sit around regaling with stories of Abraham, and Moses, and... all the other people who worked on the plantation.”

I have never hollered so loud my entire life after seeing Charles Winchester turn into a prankster for April Fools' Day. Why is it I'n so fascinated with TV characters with weird and funny-sounding accents? Charles was the first, now Sister Blanche Devereaux? The girls are national treasures in their own right, but Sister Blanche is drop down hilarious.
I love how the doctor talked to the baby like it's human. My kids pediatrician talks to my kids and ask how they are from the newborn health check to present day, of course you have to ask the parent because they are the adults after all but treating the baby like that is so good.
What the hell was going on in that treehouse that Daddy had to tear it down? 😳 Also, the Dr. Jonathan Newman scenes was the first time I fell apart with laughter while watching TV. 🤣

The Golden Girls remains the best comedy ever made and Blanche will forever be my favorite 🤍
Dorothy: Your initials spell B.E.D.?!?! o_O
Blanche Elizabeth Devereaux
That episode was hilarious
