Absolutely. We need a resurgence of singer/songwriters to push aside the over-produced, uninspired pabulum that has permeated our society. Hard to top the early 70s, when it comes to that raw, unencumbered, sweet, earthy, authentic heart-music, but we can always hope for a change...
I was lucky enough to see JT in concert only once, but what a show it was. It was the same year of this video, and I cryed like everyone else in the audience. I was about thirteen when he hit it big in the early 70's and have grown to appreciate his music more as each year passes. God Bless you JT!
This takes me back to the first time I heard JT I was out with my future brother in law in the back country 5 wheeling playing thee old 8 track tapes and JT came on and it’s like taking a very strong but very smooth drink and you just relax and enjoy the music while enjoying the beautiful outback!
Once in a generation of generations some outlandishly gifted and phenomenally talented soul comes along like a reincarnation of a Musical Muse, and gives absolute piercing, astronomically qualitative and astoundingly beautiful voice to the very most universal inner emotions and feelings we could ever posess as human beings---that person lives now as singer-songwriter James Taylor, hands down the epic musical creator-progenitor of this Age.
Makes cry every time i hear it .I've dedicated it to my wife - who passed away 2004 -- even played it at her funeral she along with me absolutely loved JT and she was lucky enough to get a picture with him at a concert in madisson square gdns NY some years ago
This song has been my companion for almost 40 y now. Since the very first moment I knew my wife this was the fav song I used to sing for her ! When I left home or the Gulf, I used to sing it accross the wire when I called my other half ... every evening. I keep on singing it and hope they will play it for me when I will leave this world for good ! Flavio.
Timeless masterpieces. We're talking more than 2 decades and his talent remains strong. Songwriters like Carole King need to come back... there's too much talentless garbage on the radio nowadays.
THIS SONG MAKE ME AND MY HUSBAND CRY TO,HE IS MY BEST FRIEND TOO,I AM SOOOOO GLAD YOUR BROTHER MADE IT THREW IT THANK GOD FOR THAT AND ALL THE PRAYERS,GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU.
I grew up listening to this kind of music. My step dad raised me to love the classics. He passed last year and everytime I hear an old song I remember how much fun he had playin his guitar and singing the classics. I remember this one time we were driving down the road and this song came on he just began singing and smiling. I've raised my son the same way and I really miss my step father every day.
James Taylor is one of those few musicians who can perform live really well and captivate the audience. I wasn't there, but am really mesmerized by the simple instrumentation, and the intricacies of his guitar playing in this song and other songs that you might not hear on his regular albums. I mean, like changing it up here and there in such a special way. And his voice is so pure to go along with the guitar. The keyboard man blends in so well with James - what a great talent James collaborated with! I'd rather see him perform in person!
This incredibly talented man has gotten better with age. His songs take my memory back to certain wonderful times in my life. For that, I thank him. This is what great music and meaningful songs are supposed to do.
I remember being a pretty big "JT" fan back in the late 70's/early 80's. He sure does have a nice voice. I wonder why he never seems to sing songs in concert the same way he did on his original recordings. I suppose it's one of those "I'm an artist and I sing it the way I feel it" sort of things, but I'm sure most people would rather hear the songs the way they remember them. It's nice that his voice sounds as good as ever.
Some people just have it. Nothing you can learn, your're either born with it or not. JT has it IN SPADES. What a great singer and songwriter...... and I've really discovered him way too late........maybe some things we´re just able to appreciate as we grow old.
my best friend passed away when I was 19 and I had a dream like she was singing this to me the day before I found out. This song means so much to me because since than I have suffered much troubles but when I think of her I feel better.
THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES ,FROM BACK IN THE DAY,I LOVE ALL MY FRIENDS HIS WORDS ARE SO SOOTHING ,ME AND MY HUSBAND TRIED WITH THIS ONE. WE WERE BEST FRIENDS WHEN WE WAS 15 AND 17, MANY YEARS LATER FOUND ARE WAY BACK TOGETHER AND GOT MARRIED, THANK JAMES
I'm not crying, HONEST! Seriously though, one of James Taylor's most soulful songs. The intricate chord progressions and vocal melody are hauntingly beautiful.
I put music like this on for my kids to listen to. I tell them this what we called back in the day this thing called talent. Just a man, a guitar, and his voice. Sounds damn good to
man everytime I hear this song it reminds me of a quite afternoon in my old small village town in the province back in the philippines during the 70's. Sweat memories.
This song reminds me of a time I needed someone like this but no one was there. Took years to find that person. Still good memories and a beautiful song. Can you imagine being his child and having him sing you lullabies
OH my, what a profoundly wonderful song, & artist!! I was captivated all the way through, and got a lump in my throat at the end...and tears...wow!! . stunning. Thankyou!!
a friend of mine in montana told me to think of this song whenever i needed help and to contact him immediately. i cry every time i hear this song. fortunately i have not needed his help but i still call him. he is my best friend.
Memorable sunsets in BARBADOS* on the beach watching the tranquil water as the light dips below the arc of the horizon pampered by the cool breeze rustles through the pine trees... What awesome memories of a time gone by when the world seemed to be such a different place... Thank you JT* for being apart of my life's repertoire in the melody of song...
The voice and guitar of the ultimate singer songwriter of our generation. Great sound, even with just a simple piano accompaniment. All performers can learn from this. Thanks for the posting. - Dave.
Didn't notice in any of the comments the one obvious fact. Mudslide Slim has what they call "perfect pitch". Isn't what most people think it is. I have the same thing, and I can't sing worth a dime. "Perfect Pitch" is the ability to sing any note on command, at guess what? Perfectly in tune! Ask James to sing a "A" and he will be within a few cents, of being in tune. That is a rare gift. I tune my guitars, and basses that way. Pick any song, and James can start in the right key, dead on. Very few can do that. Especially today. Half of today's singers use "Antares Vocalizer". Just to be listenable. Example. The Dixie Chicks. Take away their software controller, and they couldn't hold a tune in a bucket. James earned his reputation! Incredibly accurate voice. Love ya JT.
Love James' voice, I would die if he played at my graduation or wedding...his voice is musical bliss! Yes, I'm odd for loving his music at my age, I just find it so refreshing and comforting :)
One of the most beautiful songs ever written and performed!
His voice is like a soft kiss. Happy Birthday James.
+will30078 Hi there Check my cover of this song on my youtube. I think you will like it.
I hope the American people realize what they have here. This is a treasure.
Theres something so comforting about the simple singer not overcast by pop and glitz.

JT is the greatest. Hands down.
Absolutely. I’ve been to over 15 concerts, and my favorite one was Ed Sheeran 5 years ago. Just him and his guitar. It was an amazing performance.
You have one too. Devotion in friendship. Peace love and harmony....May your tour be the best ever.
I have come late to James Taylor and his music, but better late than never
Il y a des beautés dans ce monde, et James Taylor a contribué à en rajouter

I would expect him to tire of playing this but every video I see of him playing this he is smiling away.
