  • The tank has arrived! It is set up.
    Here are my thoughts on the Red Sea Reefer 650 Peninsula
    It is similar to the Red Sea Reefer 500 Peninsula but a foot longer.
    This was released the same time as the Red Sea Reefer XXL series. Check those out as well.
    Here is the link to the aquarium:
    www.redseafish...
    You can find them at Bulk Reef Supply, Marine Depot, Saltwater Aquarium, or your local fish store.
    Your LFS can help you out. It is pretty big so mine helped place it on the stand for me.
    I love the tank and believe it is one of the best reef aquariums that is non-custom.

    I love the look of this tank! But 😱 Pipe connections above electrics! If it were me I would get some plexiglass cut and create a trough for under those pipes, to channel any water that might leak, through the opening at the left and across the top of the ATO reservoir so it would end up in the open sump area. It wouldn’t need much of a slope. The other thing with the connections that could happen because they aren’t glued, is salt creep - in spite of how tight the connections are, we have salt creep at one of the joints in the XL 425. Not a lot and not a big deal, but it’s over the sump so not a threat to anything. And ours is only one joint, where there are elbows in yours so therefore several joints. But I have to say, I think the plumbing design is very elegant and clean-looking. And I’m also very much behind with videos so I’m thinking it’s time for a binge-watch to catch up on where you are now! 👍🏻👍🏻 You’ve probably already dealt with all this. 🤔

    I nearly pulled the trigger on a 500 version of this but I hate their valve system. I have a Reefer 170 and the water level is constantly hunting up and down in the overflow. Although I think its better in the bigger ones. Great video, I like the honesty. It's all about keeping it real 👍I've had issues with leaks in the return and the overflow but I got mine in the very first shipment to the UK so it is what it is. Subbed.

      This one is doing really well. I just had to tune it so a tiny bit of water was flowing into the emergency pipe. It is pretty silent. The loudest thing is the trickle into the filter sock area.

    Cool review. That tank looks awesome. Please do a full video of you actually aquascaping the tank..
    For the empty space on the far right, just add an additional sump / ATO , this way if it leaks from those pipes itll drop straight into it.. : ))

    Hey PDR, I just bought this tank (650). It's sitting in my living room, and I just completed building the cabinet. Next challenge is to lift the tank (still on the pallet) onto the cabinet. How many guys did it take for you to lift the tank and onto the cabinet? I have 4 Woods 8" Powr Grip suction cups. Tell me what the process was like. Thank you so much...Gilbert.

    • @PuffDaddyReef
      @PuffDaddyReef  7 років тому

      Gilbert Moreno It is no problem with 4 people. 3 is doable as well with the suction cups. Once you get it on mostly on the stand you can take a break and then cenfer it.

    Wow ... Looks great!
    Ok, they use the thicker 3/4 glass but at the same time is hard to figure out how Red Sea handled the amount of pressure on these rimless models without any kind of safety braces on the bottom like Elos seems to use on they tanks. Please, whats your opinion about it? Thank you!

    • @PuffDaddyReef
      @PuffDaddyReef  6 років тому +1

      Felipe Araújo It hasn't broke so I guess it works! I haven't heard of anyone else having problems either.

    • @FelipeAraujo-dv8xy
      @FelipeAraujo-dv8xy 6 років тому

      Yep ... I guess the real secret are the thickness of the glass they work with :)
      I'm from Brazil and here the import taxes are wayyyy expansive. So I intend to build one "my self" once I have all the components manufacturers (glass, wood, etc etc) as clients ... I mean, I shoot for them! You can check my portfolio on Instagram, them you will get what I mean ;)

    Do you recommend this tank for beginners? I don't know much about sumps, skimmers, etc
    I do have a saltwater tank with just fish, no corals. I only have a canister filter and a hang on the back filter that pretty much all I have for filtration.

    • @PuffDaddyReef
      @PuffDaddyReef  7 років тому

      I would consider a much smaller one. The smallest I would go would be a Innovative Marine Nuvo Fusion 20 gallon tank (see videos of it on my channel). It is good for 3-4 nano fish and some mixed corals. A red sea reefer would be good also but I would stay with the middle range (between 40 and 120 gallons). Most people say, bigger is easier to keep stable but there is a point where bigger tanks have bigger challenges. If you mess up the water quality in a large tank, you need to do bigger water changes to fix it. The tank becomes difficult to move. Lighting, and electricity to run it is more expensive. The best thing with a small tank like the Nuvo, is when you gain experience want to expand, you can keep the small tank and get the big one also!

      Amaranta Monge as a fellow fish keeper, you should always buy the best you can afford....eventually ur gonna upgrade anyways so.....sure its a great tank so why not

    What a wonderful aquarium, Congratulations good video and for all the explanations.
    I'm thinking of buying one as well, but I came up with an issue, what material do you use between the closet and the base of the aquarium?

    • @PuffDaddyReef
      @PuffDaddyReef  6 років тому

      Antonio Rodrigues Between the base and what? No material on the floor.

    • @AntonioRodrigues-hd3gt

      No, I'm wondering if you used any material between the Aquarium and the closet.

      The stand (closet) comes with a foam pad glued to the top that the tank sets on.Watch my other videos where I build the stand so you can see what I mean.

    High Puff Daddy beautiful tank I was thinking about getting me one but I was wondering how much do they weigh. I noticed you you live upstairs. I live upstairs and I have a basement. Wonder if it would hold. Thanks peace

    • @PuffDaddyReef
      @PuffDaddyReef  6 років тому

      John Beltran You will need to consult with a professional who can inspect your home. The water weight alone is 1500 lbs. The tank and stand is probably another 250. My floors are steel/concrete so it is no issue. You will want large floor joists and probably install it perpendicular the the length. But once again, it is best to consult a professional.

    Hi Puff Daddy. GREAT tank and great review. Cant wait to follow along. I would just say one thing: I have had the Rollermatt in my system for 8 months and it worked fine. However, I than saw this (www.clarisea.eu) and it is miles ahead of the Rollermat! This unit solves a lot of the rollermatt's construction mistakes ( the Rollermatt tends to accumulate late a lot of detritus, there is no bypass function if you want to dose some product, it is huge and impossible to fit into sumps properly and finally the Rollermatt has a too low flow - max 2700L/h - for large tanks). The Clarissa is German manufactured and designed entirely from acrylic and works MUCH better. Let me know if you want to know more as I am really stoked with the Clarisea (using the SK15 in my 700liter peninsula).

    Have you had any issues with the levelers now that you have water in the tank?

    • @PuffDaddyReef
      @PuffDaddyReef  6 років тому

      Michael Baumann No. The levelers work fine. Just take your time to level the stand. Add the tank and level again. And then tighten the locking nuts.

    • @kanesword9528
      @kanesword9528 6 років тому

      Good deal, thanks. Have you been able to gauge how long the ATO res is lasting? I'm looking at this tank and a bit concerned about that part of it.

    • @PuffDaddyReef
      @PuffDaddyReef  6 років тому

      Not long enough. But it is compact and you can always use a container next to the tank. That is a good idea for a video. I'm going on a trip soon so I will fill it up and see what happens. Look for a video in a couple weeks.

      Can I ask how tall you are :), My last tank was a 140 DSA that was 27" high and it was a pain for me(6' 2"). I'm hoping this won't be as bad.

    • @PuffDaddyReef
      @PuffDaddyReef  6 років тому

      I am 5' 8" and I have to pull up a step stool any time I need to reach the bottom or rearrange the rocks.

    • @PuffDaddyReef

      No. Only one side can open. You have to pick right or left when you build it.

    For this tank what else do you have to add since it doesn't include some stuff?

    • @PuffDaddyReef
      @PuffDaddyReef  6 років тому

      J Brown It comes with the tank, stand, sump, plumbing (except for the plastic tube to connect to the return pump). You need to buy just about everything else. Return pump, ciclrculation, heater, skimmer, and lights (unless you get the version with lights). A controller is also nice.
