And Joel embed. And Luka. And ant-man. Kd was voted the favorite player by college b-ball players like 5 years in a row. Notice ever 7 footer wants to play like kd now days
SAS killed it at the end. Often JJ is on point in calling out bs. Which is important. And he called what he THOUGHT was bs this time as well. Which is good. But SAS was totally correct. We judge what we see, and KD's leadership didn't reach the level of LeBron, Magic, or Curry. He COULDN'T galvanize his players like the top tier leaders could. Leading by example is important which KD does in terms of putting in work, but that's only one component of it. All the other great leaders spared no effort in their work. But they were able to galvanize their players on TOP of that. KD doesn't get more respect as a leader because he hasn't EARNED that respect. As they say, respect is earned. We're not taking anything away from KD. But you need proof to ADD to someone's resume, and KD didn't provide that proof.
@@RobertBallz he doesn't have enough to be called a leader. He does have work ethic for sure which a leader needs. He has the skills and bball iq which a leader needs to command respect. But he doesn't have the charisma. The ability to command respect and obedience from his teammates. The ability to organize an offense and defense.
I agree with JJ. Shows like first take have done irreparable damage to NBA discourse and how we view the game itself. Fans like drama and "storylines". That's why they push people like LeBron, Steph, and KD so much because they know people will flock to it every time regardless of how much they say they don't like it
it’s a part of any media industry - they have to drum up controversy in order to keep their business going, including discussions about fake stars - like the ones you mentioned
Fans engage with KD all the time. After he responds to them they immediately stop hating him because he's one of few superstar players who talk to the fans. Yeh fans may spew they bs to KD, but when they log off the Internet they like I can't believe KD responded back to them.
@@ChickasawMal28_ At the end of the day though, KD is just seen by fans and teammates as an ultimate scorer. Not a leader that sacrifices himself to set the example for his team, like Giannis Embiid or Curry do for their teams. KD doesn't explain enough to the media or to his team what direction his team has to go towards in order to win a championship. And that's a fact.
Was it the players job is to give the reporter's as little as possible to spin, right? Your job, a sports reporter's is to educate the audience on what's going on in that sport, right? Not spin a narrative to drive up mess and confusion. Maybe that's the real problem.
Jj was apologizing for K.d Lack of leadership. Kd said himself when got to GOLDEN STATE " He just wants to hoop" so he joined team where he didn't have to lead. AND AT BROOKLYN it didn't work out, whole thing collapsed. Kyrie said they don't need coach, KD co-signed. Was a whole lot that showed lack of leadership especially joining team u lost to after being up 3-1. Leadership requires more than skills and making shots. KD STILL ONE OF ONE AND ELITE
That just isn't true. He didn't defend Zion. JJ tells it how it is on a lot of players. Zion went to Duke and was a teammate for a short time. So, it should have been harder to be so strict on him. JJ does take the player side a majority of the time but as a former player, their mindsets are more similar than the mindset of a pure media member like Mad Dog or Steven A.
Multiple scoring titles, an mvp, multiple conference finals appearances,an nba finals appearance and lead the finals in scoring as a 23 year old.And had one of the best finals runs in nba history.
JJ should stop questioning his colleague credential just because hes a former player and is "liked" more by current players. In his view, ANYTHING that players say is the ultimate truth and whoever DARE to question that or challenge their view is dumb and uneducated about the NBA because they never play it at a high level.
He didn't question his credentials, he just asked questions . Is it kd job to educate steven a. The problem is they don't talk to players they don't like, they just create narratives
@johnpaulkerrigan7975 i disagree ..old man and a 3 podcast, he critiques players and games on a weekly basis. What are you saying no to? That he doesn't know basketball more than SAS Smith or that a man saying something about winning an argument, not childish?
Stephen A is not at all interested in having a serious conversation that educates people about the game. His entire livelihood is dependent on the "men yelling at each other about sports" genre. There is a market for serious conversations about the complexities of the game with the best players in the league (which is why they all have podcasts now which we all listen to) but Stephen A is utterly surplus to that conversation.
JJ Reddick, I like you but you talking nonesense!!!!! KD is friend so He is Biaised - He is not objective!!!! That's why he is not qualified to educate us about criticizing Basket ball players!! Steven A is qualified cause he is objective and roasted everyone! Noone is questioning Durant no being a Good Player!! He is but no Leader! Before he went to Golden State, they were winning and When he left the Golden States they Still WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A Leader doesn't go for what makes him happy. He prioritizes what makes his team happy, Durant is pursuing happiness at the expenses of his teammates? He's no leader! He's an amazing player though! Right now is the time for him to prove that he a leader. He's the experienced player on a young team... Lead them to victory and we'll open the debate of you being a leader! LEbron left the cavs, went to Miami, won titles, came back to the cavs, won a title the went to the Lakers, won a title... That's a Leader but not like the REAL LEADERS JORDAN (evemn tho I think LBJ > Jordan) and Curry who stayed on their Team to win titles!!!

Stephan A smith owned JJ reddick in this argument. JJ can’t always use the “I’m a player”. Kevin Durant has proved time and time again he’s not a leader. As fans and analyst we have a right to feel that way and it’s valid
Wemby idolizes KD. He revolutionized the big man with guard like game. KD may not be an extrovert leader but he inspired guys like Wemby to play like he does now. That’s what leadership is all about. Being an inspiration
And Joel embed. And Luka. And ant-man. Kd was voted the favorite player by college b-ball players like 5 years in a row. Notice ever 7 footer wants to play like kd now days
they will never say that tho...u see how they disreegard all that info

@@charliec2966 there's no way you can convince me stephen a got cooked anyone not dumb deaf or blind can tell he cooked JJ this whole segment
@@aflyingmodemhe really did cook JJ
@@allcinionexplainsitall5869 nah he did not, he just has a louder voice
KD has no leadership whatsoever. I mean where do I start.
"Can I respond?" (SAS). Of course you can, it's your show"(JJ Redick). 😂😂😂
I agree with JJ. Shows like first take have done irreparable damage to NBA discourse and how we view the game itself. Fans like drama and "storylines".
That's why they push people like LeBron, Steph, and KD so much because they know people will flock to it every time regardless of how much they say they don't like it
Agree
Storylines have been in sports forever😂
@Trini92Flash-zd8dh yes prob even more so.
Agreed
it’s a part of any media industry - they have to drum up controversy in order to keep their business going, including discussions about fake stars - like the ones you mentioned
Stephen A danced around that question like Chris Brown in stomp the yard 😂😂😂😂
Stephen A spoke facts. You just hating
They both have a point that's why the debate is useless
Danced around what question? He address him directly.
JJ danced around how he brought up being in the locker room
When Sas tries to dress young he fails miserably 🤣 🤣
Max Kellerman haunting Stephen A. through JJ Redick (pause) is what we love to see😂😂
karma hurts 😆
JJ and SAS going at it is absolutely great! 😂
That's a really good take from Steven A and one of the good explanations of why fans don't engage enough with KD
So you@@Panos_Georgiou
Was it the players job is to give the reporter's as little as possible to spin, right? Your job, a sports reporter's is to educate the audience on what's going on in that sport, right? Not spin a narrative to drive up mess and confusion. Maybe that's the real problem.
I thought the discussion as a whole was great.
Mad dog @ 9:19 😂😂😂
SAS actually schooled JJ on this topic. Had him looking hella confused lol. Mad Dog was crackin me up without doing really anything at all 😂
Yeah first time I seen SAS get the better of him. Essentially cuz the argument bout journalism not ball.
Coach Redick sticks up for the players, that's why he's a coach now
"Oh JJ is on today?" The only time ESPN is Worth watching 😂
Stephen a is right, jj would defend a player no matter what they did
That just isn't true.
JJ looking thrilled to be on the show
When JJ started talking his ish Stephen a Smith put that ear bud in real quick like...who da puck this new ninja taking too 😂🤣😭
It’s cause the sound went out a little but I love the drama between Stephen A and JJ 😂😂😂
“Its not 60 minutes” 😂 i love Mad Dog
I know Stephen A hates when JJ gets on first take 😂😂
How so? SAS is the executive producer he approves who's on and not on. SAS knows exactly what he's getting into
Stephan a doesn’t know anything about basketball
@@Bernard_24how you figure that?
JJ is not on first take without Stephen A’s approval
Love JJ Reddick energy 💯
KD shifted the balance of the NBA with every team he joined. Acknowledging that is giving credit.
I have to agree to JJ redick on this
JJ Rolling his eyes while the old heads talked was awesome xD
Outside of his years in GSW, what has he done?
That doesn't even count... for him and Golden State
@@KevyB. it doesn’t count? Golden state has won a title before and after him. I’m simply asking what has he done outside of there
Multiple scoring titles, an mvp, multiple conference finals appearances,an nba finals appearance and lead the finals in scoring as a 23 year old.And had one of the best finals runs in nba history.
@ sounds interesting, how do you have one of the best finals run without a title. Bc I’m pretty sure his only rings came in golden state.
I rarely agree with SAS, but I agree with SAS.
Simple- KD has always been a bus rider. He’s a hall of famer and is elite; however, never been the bus driver to carry his own team to a championship.
Stephen A and JJ really had a very tense exchange that got personal.
JJ should stop questioning his colleague credential just because hes a former player and is "liked" more by current players. In his view, ANYTHING that players say is the ultimate truth and whoever DARE to question that or challenge their view is dumb and uneducated about the NBA because they never play it at a high level.
Thanks Magic Bot

JJ is too quick to make it personal about reporters vs players and ofcourse SAS is going to win that argument
JJ knows more than Stephan a..it's childish to look at it as winning a argument
@@shynebayarea510 no. JJ is just incapable of criticizing any players. Coaches and media are the only people he’ll criticize
@johnpaulkerrigan7975 i disagree ..old man and a 3 podcast, he critiques players and games on a weekly basis. What are you saying no to? That he doesn't know basketball more than SAS Smith or that a man saying something about winning an argument, not childish?
All JJ does is get mad on here 90% of the show
Yall think Jj getting fired, I think this is a great conversation lmao. They both making excellent points.
Just love the oh-please-don''t-mind-me vibe oozing out of Mad Dog 😂😂😂
Stephen A is not at all interested in having a serious conversation that educates people about the game. His entire livelihood is dependent on the "men yelling at each other about sports" genre. There is a market for serious conversations about the complexities of the game with the best players in the league (which is why they all have podcasts now which we all listen to) but Stephen A is utterly surplus to that conversation.
Bahahahaha! That is so perfectly stated that I have nothing to add. Well played.
I have to agree.
Probaby because HE didn't play the game so how would he educate.
So true. My god he is annoying
Tired of this false labeling against KD
Who says star players have to be vocal leaders? shut up, and stop crying. Corny loser.
As soon as I read the Forst sentence in your comment I was digging around to see where you mention Curry. And sure enough, it’s there.
Thank you Mr Bus Rider for riding the bus.
