I know this is great! Now I have, and know how to use a " Shemagh". Where I live in southern Canada, we get one extreme to the other with the weather. This is going to be awesome
Living in the deserts of New Mexico I love these things… use them for carrying stuff, pillow, picnic blanket, scarf, covid mask, and headgear. Ppl often look at me odd though if I forget to take off when in the city lol
@@MetalGopnikTV I mean it we’re strictly talking about day to day uses, then it’s subjective, but the Bedouin style is far better than all the others that are listed in here because of its practicality and how well it protects you while living in a desert, there’s a reason as to why my people prefer it over the normal day to day styles (the ones with the iqal and the taqiyya, basically what you see when you look up “Arab business man)
Interesting. I like how you added the historical/present use and then a goofy bit at the end. I'm considering getting one as a sunhat alternative for my yard work. That and as a woman I can use it as fashion too. Thank you Very Survival!!
Alex Strasza I wish I could do the same, but since I’m Arab I’m afraid that I will fit the description and instead of protecting myself against Corona, I’ll get arrested for looking like osama.
Just like a pashmina these are super super helpful and versatile. Lightweight easy to pack and can be used in so many different ways. Great video!!! Will be practicing how to tie my own. Thanks!!!
Thank you, I was convinced that was the right way to pronounce it, but cockneys have this depressingly self-confident way of mispronouncing things that make you question your own sanity 😂
I have several. I've also used them for about 5 to 6 years now. My wife likes to stay up late and have the lamp on. I wear one every night like the incognito look you did. Just laying over the top of my head but I'll pull the top down to cover my eyes to shield me from the light she has on. Even if she goes to bad early or b4 me I'm still so use to wearing it I still use it. They have become like a safety blanket to me or like a child's woobbie or somthing. Lol . gotta have mine with me or close by at all times.
Sweet. I was looking for new tying methods as a mask for CV-19. Mine is a Saudi khaffiyah with egal that I bought in Saudi Arabia when I was a Desert Stormer in the 90´s. I had no idea it would come in handy outside of the arabian deserts!
I'm wearing my Moroccan tagelmust- basically the same thing, just tuareg- slightly longer and narrower- like 6 or 7 feet by 2 feet- around Los Angeles. It's a lot of fun having an excuse to wear turbans around town. They are definitely the most stylish of covid 19 facemask solutions. People really like it.
Been wanting something like this since for weeks now, but didn't know what scarves like this were called. Finally found "shemags" tonight and have learned a lot. Was bummed that this link was for an item that doesn't ship to the USA, but then kept browsing & found the same company has items that *do* ship here. SO - this was a very helpful vid for demonstrating this can be used how I want AND for the link to a recommended brand. Big thanks!!
Definitely not. I use it exactly for that. I usually wrap it the bandit way and put a cotton handkerchief in between the folds for an added layer of protection.
I came here just looking around how to tie a bandana. Now my mind is blown from all this Shemaghination! Also, these b-roll shots here are some of funniest I've seen in UA-cam!
I love my Shamog I usually wear it every day of the year since I got it . It and trekking poles I always thought was strange until I started using them out backpacking now I love them and can't understand why others don't use them as well .
Treking poles are useless for anything other than river crossings, and even then you can just pick up a branch to measure depth. You're better off without the (cumbersome to pack/store) pole, keeping both hands free for balance and obstacle clearing. Spoken as a very experienced outdoorsman and military veteran. Shemaghs are only useful in a windy desert environment to reduce sand in eyes and face. And even then it's a tradeoff with elevated body temperature because you're losing heat ventilation from the top of your head which will heat and dehydrate you faster, reducing your endurance.
Picked up as a souvenir when I was in the MFO in the Sinai back in 87/88. Until the first sandstorm hit. Then it was real handy to get from the barracks to the office and to chow. The last few years until I retired I used one at work around the neck in the winter when our heat was less than optimal. By using it around the neck stayed warm and could be in shirt sleeves comfortably. Guess I'll pull em out and use one the next time I go to town. LOL
Shemaghzing! Funny and instructional! Dr. Ruth Westheimer is quoted as quoting the Talmud as saying, a lesson taught with humor is a lesson retained! Imagine. Thanks!
Man, I think you be a class act to hit a pub with for a few pints!! Great channel. I have really enjoyed your compass videos, and you have creative content. Thanks for sharing! Waiting for my shemagh to arrive in a day or two and need to be prepared! PEACE!!
It’s making me sad that some of the Palestinians in the comments that posted years ago never replied to recent comments. May they rest in peace, we will never forget you. and we will keep fighting to save the remaining Palestinians 🙏
Funny fact depending on the colors in certain areas of the world they mean different things like to a specific group of people say a tribe . Funny how learning more about a specific thing gives that thing more meaning .and it could save your life in certain areas of the World.
i 1'st learned to wear a keyaffiya during my time in the mideast and their are 6' native ways of wearing it most westerners either wear it in the Bedouin style or the Jordanian army style
I have them in all my kits. When I'm in my urban environment, I wear a hobo hanky(same thing just a little less desert looking, you know for the, "wearing that shemagh in my neck of the woods will get you shot" crowd. You know you are.) thanks for sharing.
I always heard the "bandit" style called cow boy style due to how reminiscent it is of bandanas men would where on the cattel trail , but i finally got my own and love the thing
2:21 the bedouin style, 3:33 the bandit, 3:59 the buff
Dude, put all the time stamps all in one comment and I will pin it as the first comment under the video
Nailed it bro
He says four but there’s only three?
@@blobnation8457 He forgot to add the one at 1:08
Vermin97 oh ok
As a Palestinian it’s very nice to soo it rise in popularity, so that people don’t just think “terrorist” when they see someone wear it now
hopefully

I just got mine in today. Shout out to ya'll. Ironically, I just got my Plate Carrier in last week and it's from Israel lmao

What brand is that?
And the most complex wrap (the bedouin) got the farthest shot and the least instructions... :(
@Peter Lustig no its not
this video is a bit more detailed ua-cam.com/video/eOztR8VUlOA/v-deo.html
facts
Warm in winter. Comfortable in summer. And always walking like a badass. The Bandit combined with a cap an glasses looks tacticool.
Too True
Actually it’s probably the worst out of the three, but the Bedouin is the best for obvious reasons
@@MMD-mi5vx that is true. I just prefer the Bandit, because it is the easiest for me to wear. But thank you for your opinion.

The shemgah is so nice to wrap around your especially if you have headaches or it’s cold it looks very stylish too
Brilliant. I am a Bedouin and you made it perfect. Just a note shemagh gh is pronounced like r in French to sound accurately. So it is شماغ
Thanks for the info!

Good vid. Thank you for showing these 4 methods of wearing our shemaghs. I really like the pure functionality in all kinds of weather they provide.
As an Arab...very good job

The first wrap reminded me of the women, who talked over their backyards in the back to back houses, of the 60s, or the Les Dawson sketch of the same.
