Most of the States and Congress will not do anything to rein in these police abuses. We live in a police state. Read John Whitehead's excellent 2013 book, A GOVERNMENT OF WOLVES: THE EMERGING AMERICAN POLICE STATE. It's gotten worse since then. And Trump wants to give these thugs with badges and guns more power and immunity when they already have too much of both. I won't be voting for Trump (or Harris for that matter). If you want liberty and limited government, vote Libertarian.

What an embarrassing situation the police caused for themselves and I do hope this ends up in court for a judgement on their actions and a large settlement.
The real problem is police training and the lack of continuous training within the various and numerous police and sheriff's department across the once great country of the United States of America. May God help you all.

Gang members do it all the time. With that said, this whole situation was incredibly mismanaged and a violation of their rights.
The fact that the officer was too much of a clown to listen to the lady saying how she used to work at that gas station and was just chilling there. And who said it's illegal to switch drivers? I just did that with 3 people all weekend during our drive to a hiking spot.

      Omg so true
Seems like they shouldn’t be able to stop you making a phone call based off of officer safety unless the officer has some particular suspicion that you are willing, able and likely to do so. Like if you are a gang member or part of a crime family or something lol

I got stopped the other night for riding my bike without a light on it, cop asked where I was coming from and going to. Cop didn't think I should have rode to the gas station because it was too far, 5 minute ride, but literally was the only store open in town. Didn't believe where I was going, wanted to search me. I laughed at him. He ran my ID and let me go, I proceeded to get back on my bike and ride on the sidewalk in town where there's also street lights... this was also around bar close in a college town wisconsin, like a bike with no light is the most important thing he should be doing? It's only required to prove that they collectively were involved in criminal conduct. The illegal detention and false arrest should suffice. This type of prosecution is used against gangs and organized crime with great effect. If prosecutors weren't in bed with LEO's they would be using it to stop this type of abuse.

I was going to say ignorant but they are beyond that. They are just stupid. Detaining people for no lawful reason. Impeding their freedom to go anywhere. Not sure if they should be in prison, but they certainly should not be police anywhere in america. If I was the attorney over the phone. I'd been like do as they say & we will see them in court & you 2 just won the ran into stupid power hungry law enforcement officers payday lotto. So do as they say & sue I mean see them in court. Problem is immunity. This why all cops instead of tax payers getting stuck paying the bill & cop keeping job. Like Dr's & malpractice lawsuit they carry insurance. Get to many malpractice practice or 1 big 1 cost insurance alot of money eventually Dr can't be Dr anymore can't pay their insurance. Same with cop should have to carry insurance & they get sued eventually they can't be cop anymore can't pay for insurance it's way to high their whole pay then some couldn't pay the price. It's so easy every human is flawed is why we all need accountability by whom ever. When no accountability breaking rules laws you feel invincible & get worst probably. Our law makers need held accountable as they make more & more ignorant laws & give themselves & their security/cops immunity. As everyday americans are harassed daily from some law broke encounter with lady or gentleman with armed gun having bad day brings trouble. Only people held accountable seems to be we the people & we the people don't seem to hold law makers law enforcement accountable. Where in so deep in corruption in all government today maybe we all should be in freaking prison for stupidity. Most Americans though are like. If it ain't me who cares they shouldn't have broken law. They were at gas station to long is a law. Maybe it should be im at station get my gas get out they must been on drugs or something must been sniffing gas. Others need to get gas they need to go. So no don't think prison, but accountable for their ignorance, power trip, & stupidity, fired & broke in huge dept yes that's where you hit these politicians & civil servants. Bring that title back also civil servant which is all politicians are & police wether sharif chief or highway patrol, civil servant. More like 1930s America. Cops constantly harassed jobless Citizens and told them to keep out of their jurisdictions. LA PD even set up border checkpoints to keep Okies out. New York was deporting people on welfare to other states. California deported Mexican-American Citizens to Mexico...

The State’s Internal Affairs needs to fully audit this department. This looks like a symptom of some deeper corruption.

This will be a slam-dunk lawsuit! These officers should be prosecuted for several civil rights violations. They should be fired and banned for being stupid.
