This is how ABBA started off! Björn on vocals with Agnetha and Frida on backing vocals. And then they discovered the magic of putting the two female voices together in harmony and bringing them to the front. Some engineering magic by Michael Tretow, and voila - the ABBA sound.
There are several ABBA songs where Bjorn takes lead vocals, especially their early songs: Watch Out, Rock Me, Man In The Middle, Suzy-Hang-Around, Two for the Price of One, Crazy World, Another Town Another Train, Rock 'n' Roll Band, King Kong Song, Love Isn't Easy (But It Sure Is Hard Enough), He Is Your Brother, She's My Kind of Girl, Why Did It Have to Be Me?, Dance (While the Music Still Goes On), Sitting in the Palmtree
Whenever Björn was singing it was obvious they were just playing around, they very well knew everybody wanted to hear Annifrid and Agneta sing😁 Again - Björn was an accomplished in Swedem as a lead singer of the band "Hootenanny Singers"
Please react to Why Did it have to be Me? from the Australia 1977 performance. Bjorn and Frida are fantastic together.....and she puts on quite a show.
Don't know why but I'm getting goosebumps 😄 Born and raised in Sweden we used to play Abba in daycare (this was in the 1980's), I was always Frida. 💃Great childhood memories & great music 👍
Hi Dereck, again a great reaction, please try the live version Does your Mother know, Hole in your soul, that is rocking ABBA, i think you will be surprised. Thanks and keep going on with reactions
Yes! I asked this to do to several reactors and they don't realize the jewel they are missing! Try the live version at Wembley along with Hole in your soul, you won't regret. And I also recommend their show at Nick Cavett show, their last live concert (although it was at a TV set)
ABBA never fails to surprise back then! Every song is unique. And that alone is what makes ABBA unique. Coming from a non english speaking country with no international music culture (they created that part alone). they where and still are a rare phenomenon
We did a Abba concert in Houston quite a number of years ago in the Gay Men's Chorus, and this song takes on a whole different meaning with lyrics like "Does your mother know?" or "Does your mother know that you're out?" I just wanted to mention that. I ❤ your reviews AND your energy.
that song has been with me since i was born. never really listened to the lyrics. happy to see that the lyrics are not a sleezy as i remember them, in fact i like them, about an older guy being tempted by a too young girl, and saying no.

Good day Derek! and congratulations on your reaction "Does your mother know" It was the second single from the sixth album "Voulez vous" peaked at #4 in the U.K. it's a good rock demonstrating the versatility of ABBA's musical genres (the live version is amazing with the most powerful "Hole in your soul") upbeat melody from Benny, good lead voice from Björn, vocal harmonies and a powerful chorus from the flawless Agnetha and Frida some context data: the video is from April 5 and 6, 1979 (They also filmed "Voulez vous" those same days) curiously those two days were: Agnetha's 29th birthday and the fifth anniversary of unforgettable and momentous ABBA triumph in the Eurovision Song Contest (with their most iconic song "Waterloo") the blonde singer Agnetha and Björn (here the lead voice) were already separated since the end of 1978 (with two young children) what will be legal divorce in 1980 It must have been a very difficult birthday for Agnetha; but still, here she looks beautiful and radiant
I LOVE your commenting on these great songs. ABBA is definitely one of my favourite bands ever. I can't think of a single song by them that I don't like. But my favourite ABBA album is "Voulez-Vous". I could easily recommend that you listen to and comment on all tracks on the album. The remaining ones are "As Good as New", "I Have a Dream", "Angeleyes", "The King Has Lost His Crown", "If It Wasn't for the Nights", "Lovers (Live a Little Longer)" and "Kisses of Fire". Please comment on each and every one of them and keep of the great work. Love it!

Today it´s Siouxsie´s birthday! The goddess of punk-rock in the UK. I recommend several reactions to you! "Hong Kong Garden" as the first videdoclip released in 1978 by them (Siouxsie & The Banshees), dedicated to a Chinese restaurant in London by the same name, which was assaulted by a gang of skin heads and Siouxsie was crying for help. It belongs to "The scream" their first album but not included; as a second recommendation of the same band their video "Kiss them for me" dedicated to Jayne Mansfield and released in 1991 on the album Superstition; and finally, my last recommendation is Siouxsie as a solo artist with her single "Into a swan" released in 2007 contained in Mantaray her first studio album to date. Her videoclip contains electronic elements with industrial rock merging the powerful rock of The Banshees with the innovative drumming sound of The Creatures ( her other alternative project) Enjoy them!
Wonderful song, knowing that you really like the spanish version of Chiquitita......you gotta listen to Hasta Manana....in spanish, simply amazing. Agnetha’s vocal on that track is so angelic....Enjoy !

Nice reaction, Dereck. I thought you would like that song. The girls of ABBA did backing vocals for quite a few acts. One song you may know is MOVIESTAR where you can hear the girls doing backing clearly.. Also to say his name try saying Bee yawn
Herr Bönk yes, you explained far better than I did. I know what I meant in my head! 😂 and a little mixed up with ä! I’ve only been exposed to Swedish for 25 years! Haha. Back to school for me!
Bjorn wanted to be the lead vocalist in one song on every album. He leads the songs Rock Me, Another town, another train, Two for the price of one, Dance (while the music still goes on), and others. For more correct pronunciation of his name, try pronouncing the Bjo like the Beyo in Beyonce.
Great reaction to this Dereck. As you love synths especially in your favourite ABBA track Lay all your love on me, check out The Visitors, I’m sure you will be equally if not more impressed!
The j in Bjorn is kind of silent. It should be pronounced with more of an e sound. Try the live version filmed in Australia. Agentha wasn't feeling well so Freda did the female counter-point to Bjorn without her. Also, Bjorn took the lead on quite a few of their early songs.
First of all, Dereck you are excellent at this. Very good. Secondly, ABBA should have allowed Bjorn to sing lead more often. He had a nice voice (unlike Benny), and it allowed the girls to combine as the backup, which they were both great at.
Lol 😂You didn't pronounce Björn's name correctly, but I give you an A+ for effort. 👍🙂And, you shouldn't be surprised at Björn's vocals, because, back in 1970, the first-ever song they recorded as a foursome, was «Hej, Gamle Man», which is Swedish for «Hello, Old Man», and Björn sang the lead vocals on that one. And, also, before ABBA formed, Björn sang with a Swedish band called «The Hootenanny Singers». «Does Your Mother Know» didn't do too bad here in the U.S., where it peaked at a respectable #19, and the B-side is also very good. 📀💿🎼
@@harripalomaki8796 I listened. They say something like Bjorn or Bjårn, not Björn. (As a Finn, you should probably be able to hear fo yourself that it is incorrect.)
@@herrbonk3635, as a Finnish-speaking Finn who mostly hears Finnish Swedish (which sounds quite different from riksvenska) I took it at face - well, ear - value. But yes, the "ö" sound isn't quite there. For English speakers, words like "b*i*rth" or "*e*arth" might be useful comparisons. Then again, from what I've heard, "ö" in Swedish Swedish isn't quite as ö-like as it is in Finnish. But I'm sure you can clear this up in no time and maybe record your own instructional sound file.
@@harripalomaki8796 If I had the energy maybe :) Birth and earth are ok. I usually exemplify with stir or learn. But as you know that's just a phonetic approximation. We don't have the same ö-sound in words like öga (eye) and öra (ear). Because ö is like ä in that it opens up when followed by an r. So Swedish prosody is not as straight forward as the Finnish.
They are Swedish, so their names are written and pronounced a little bit different. Bjorn is literally in English phonetic is pronounced Beyorn. The J is silent in Swedish apparently.
I think you should try to say "Ag Netta" or something, even if it´s not a perfect pronunciation instead of calling her Anna. It´s like if people couldn´t say "Derreck" and referred to you as Dean or Denny or something like that, it´s like "Who is he talking about?"
It's a Rock and Roll song end of story got to No 4 in the Uk charts 1979 2 nd single of the Voulez Vue Album Chiquitita was far better song But they were going to release: " If it wasn't for the nights " as a single you should check that out , and also : "As good as New " terrific song , sung by the brilliant Agnetha .

"Does your mother know"
It was the second single from the sixth album "Voulez vous"
peaked at #4 in the U.K.
it's a good rock
demonstrating the versatility of ABBA's musical genres
(the live version is amazing with the most powerful "Hole in your soul")
upbeat melody from Benny, good lead voice from Björn, vocal harmonies and a powerful chorus from the flawless Agnetha and Frida
some context data:
the video is from April 5 and 6, 1979
(They also filmed "Voulez vous" those same days)
curiously those two days were:
Agnetha's 29th birthday and
the fifth anniversary of unforgettable and momentous ABBA triumph in the Eurovision Song Contest (with their most iconic song "Waterloo")
the blonde singer Agnetha and Björn (here the lead voice) were already separated since the end of 1978 (with two young children)

And, also, before ABBA formed, Björn sang with a Swedish band called «The Hootenanny Singers». «Does Your Mother Know» didn't do too bad here in the U.S., where it peaked at a respectable #19, and the B-side is also very good. 📀💿🎼
Bjorn’s name is pronounced Byorn, very soft on the J. It means “thunder bear” in Swedish (I think).
Björn Ulvaeus: the "j" sounds like "i".
More like an y (if you want to be precise).

Bjorn sounds like Bee yawn when you pronounce
Dereck react to a MELANI GARCIA en Eurovision junior 2019 con MARTE en LIVE y ABRAHAM MATEO cuando tenía 12 años en I SURRENDER please!!
Bjorn did a few lead vocals - some great suggestions below already :)
For guitar, go to the master!! Stevie Ray Vaughn, Texas Flood!!!
They are Swedish, so their names are written and pronounced a little bit different. Bjorn is literally in English phonetic is pronounced Beyorn. The J is silent in Swedish apparently.
It’s pronounced Byorn. React to The Visitors by Abba. It’s incredible. Thanks
I think he would like the whole release.
His name is pronounced B-YORN.
I think you should try to say "Ag Netta" or something, even if it´s not a perfect pronunciation instead of calling her Anna. It´s like if people couldn´t say "Derreck" and referred to you as Dean or Denny or something like that, it´s like "Who is he talking about?"
Åsa S If Agnetha says you can call her Anna, there’s no need to try (and fail) Agnetha. She knows it’s hard for non-Scandinavians. :)
It's a Rock and Roll song end of story got to No 4 in the Uk charts 1979 2 nd single of the Voulez Vue Album
Chiquitita was far better song
But they were going to release: " If it wasn't for the nights " as a single you should check that out , and also : "As good as New " terrific song , sung by the brilliant Agnetha .
