An incredible performance, but I would be lying if I didn't want DiCaprio to win the Oscar. Not so much for the actual performance, to be honest, but more to make up for how on Earth he hasn't won already.
Sidetrack, but Tom Hanks is freaking amazing for being so supportive. If you watch some of the other speeches too, he is whistling and cheering for all the winners. And rightly so!!! Chiwetel was AMAZING in 12 years a slave.
I can't believe Chiwetel finally got an award, and you losers are ruining the positivity with your complaints about Leo. Did you complain when Matthew McCough(never really figured out how to spell it sorry) won all those other awards? Or was it natural to see him win? He's the big front runner and yet you can't appreciate that an underdog like Chiwetel got at least ONE award this season. Leo doesn't need sympathy, he's been a huge star for years with or without an Oscar. Chiwetel is trying to climb up, and for all we know this may be the peak of his career (which seems often the case with blacks who have a big awards season). So, cut the negativity and give him a clap for winning this once, even if Leo was "better", he lost to someone who did GREAT. He didn't lose to an inferior performance, so wrap your brains around that and think like adults. Duh.

It's always good to see the other nominees being respectful to the winner; Tom Hanks and Christian Bale have both won sought after awards such as Academy Awards, so it was nice to see that they were clearly happy for Chiwetel Ejiofor here

You can tell how much the other actors truly loved his portrayal of Solomon Northup. I love Leo, he deserved his Oscar for The Departed as well as The Aviator. The Revenant was great, however, IMO Chiwetel Ejiofor deserved the Oscar.

He should have won the Oscar. Rewatching 12 Years a Slave, the performances from himself, Lupita Nyong'o and Michael Fassbender we're all worthy of the wins in their category. Each brought a raw emotion and power to the roles. All snubbed.

He played American characters so well I did not realize he was British until the movie Love Actually. He played Dewey Hughes, the Brother of Frank Hughes (played by Denzel)in American Gangster, he has become one of my favorite actors, he was awesome as the villain in Serenity as 'The Operative' ....but he ain't quite Denzel.....YET

He was truly amazing as Solomon, what a fine actor. That movie was such a heartwrenching story, was gripped all the way. Chiwetel is one of the greats. This story needs to be told in schools to educate, and to keep Solomons story alive.
Would love Leo to win at the Oscars now, maybe the BAFTA's are too biased to British actors and the like.

Leo is the real winner. Some of you maybe don't like The Wolf of Wall Street but his performance is nothing short of spectacular and intense, even better than the frontrunner, Matthew McConaughey. He deserves to win for everything he did in this film (including Candle Scene which is so brave and a lot more) but especially the crawling scene. That scene was filmed for one week and he has bad back pain since then. He put so many efforts into it and the result is incredible. Ok, Matt McConaughey lost some pounds but it does not mean his performance is the best. I was expecting so much more from Dallas Buyers Club, even though I have to admit, Jared Leto's performance as Rayon is definitely the best in the supporting category and he will win. I hoped Leo would win the BAFTA at least, but not only the Oscars are snubbing him for such a long time. He hasn't won BAFTA or SAG yet. This was his best chance to win, but Chiwetel Ejiofor is english, so I was sure he would win this one. I hope Oscar voters reconsider everything, and take a look of how great his performance is (y)
