My guess is that they weren’t either vortex or toxic gas torpedoes. Although Alterra phased out weaponry in the blueprints “following the massacre on Obraxus Prime,” we don’t know if this team has anything to do with Alterra. Probably not. It’s possible that they are poachers, stealing resources from Alterra, or that the planet is now considered a Disputed Territory, because of the Torgal team and their survivor, Marguerit Maida. Okay, this was freaking terrifying! I do not know how I ever completed Subnautica to be honest. I'm literally terrified of the ocean and deep water, if I cannot see the bottom I always feel like something monstrous and nightmarish is watching me from just out of sight, it freaks me out to just imagine that image, and Subnautica plays with that fear. Side note: The idea of a predator using a bio-luminescent lure to attract prey is so underutilized in Subnautica, they could have done something with that to trick the player into thinking the lure was some kind of important resource to have it actually work on the player and scare them the first time, like the angler fish trick in the abyss in SOMA (if anyone's played that and knows what I'm talking about)
