with how the silence is designed to work, is that it uses its own echolocation to cancel out all noise near it, and if something moving bounces back to it, it starts moving towards it, once it touches it. it uses its spine to 'check' to see if its something edible, and if your using sonar in a vehicle, its akin to ringing the dinner bell. only way to know for sure if its near you is if you hear nothing at all, and your heartbeat begins to rise. only way past it is said to be silent running on a cyclops and moving slowly.

Perhaps it's the 'silent waters' because the Silence ate everything else. It does say that it's on the verge if starvation, which seems to suggest that it's biome used to have prey.

I think the gargantuan would be more akin to Ancalagon the black, since he was one of the largest dragons that took down 3 mountains when he died. Although Tolkien only wrote around 2 sentences about him so we don't know his true lenght, however he is likely like 3-4 times larger at least than the gargantuan, still makes for a good comparison however@@Kingzcro

This is how main content mods should be done, this is how you keep support and hype alive. Take Return Of The Ancients for example, people found the garg cool for awhile but the mod has kinda fallen off due to development being so closed off. Like just imagine the hype and support that mod would get if they released the garg as a stand alone mod. Open ended development is what allowed subnautica to be so successful, and I believe that same principle applies here because I am so much more excited for call of the void than I am for return of the ancients. Great work to everyone on that team everything looks amazing right now!
Bit of a weird take, but I think the silence should be smaller. It’s build makes me think of a fast and maneuverable predator that strikes targets at specific points, rather than just eating them whole. Maybe a little smaller than an adult ghost leviathan and having some of its tail length cut down.
Silence should definitely be smaller and I'd genuinely prefer for him to be Silent Leviathan or something like that, Silence just doesn't really stick with the game's vibes
I definitively want more mods to make slightly smaller creatures because it does make the big mod scene feel a bit more like a dick-mesuring contest which is really sad for the potential of going with smaller creatures, those can also be made terrifying if made well enough. I'm not discrediting any mod for doing that though just that some variety from other coming mods would be great
Just came up with a cool idea for how it typically feeds. if it was smaller than a ghost leviathan it could use it’s invisibility to sneak up on them and use it’s head bone to split the membrane layer that protects them (like a knife though jello or some other soft substance). And it’s “silencing” abilities prevent the ghost leviathan from signaling other individuals. Eventually the membrane layer falls away and the ghost leviathan dies from the pressure or a direct attack. Of course this would be hard to mod in, but might be a fun note in a PDA entry.
I imagine they made it as big as they did to have its Cyclops grab look reasonable. I do agree that I would like it to be smaller. I also hope the glowing... fins?... on its tail become less rigid in the final release.
this is so cool. i can’t wait to see its finished and fully animated model as it’s a bit stiff rn. i love the little detail of it being starved it leads to so many new questions like why and what does it look like when it’s healthy? really keeps the mystery going
I have a feeling that the Silence leviathan is a Reaper leviathan that ingested crystals and got a bunch of weird pressurization stuff. I mean, think about it! It has the echolocation towards sound, it has the side beams, it's the same general shape aside from all the crystal-like spines, and it has four eye sockets!
You know what would be absolutely crazy? If the next part of this mod required you to go INTO the Silence leviathan to collect some of those unidentified parts to activate a thing. Maybe it swallowed a whole portal to a hub area?
This is the best idea for a biome if the game took place in the void. Like a giant sea monster with a perpetually open mouth and you go inside thinking its a cave, then it roars and shuts its mouth where you cant escape and you have a limited amount of time to find an exit before it digests you and you also find some precursor stuff it couldnt digest. Maybe you find an ion cube and a portal and thats how you escape. And maybe forget the time limit because it sounds too stressful/distracting. Makes sense for the silence to be giant, given the fact that the void was known as a literal arena of apex predators. The size of it is probably a detergent to other predators making it seem more trouble than it's worth when in reality its a malnourished skeleton that is more fit for ambushing.
Hey bacon, if you didnt see, the silence has a sick custom kill animation for the seamoth, after holding it in his mouth he strikes his scythe bone on his head into your seamoth, oneshotting it

Honestly, this is looking better and better to me. These mods usually have a problem of trying TOO HARD to lean into the horror elements, when what I loved about Subnautica and Below Zero was how it naturally played into the horror, unintentionally, because of my fear of the ocean and deep sea creatures. This mod seems to be trying a bit too hard again to play into the horror, but it actually looks great still, especially compared to the other big mod, that Ancients one or whatever with the gigantic leviathan. Now if only people could make models or other custom items that look like they belong in the game, then I'd feel more tempted to even try these out. Because I don't like mods that look cheap, despite it clearly being high effort, and mismatch the artstyle of the game. Unknown Worlds insisting on not releasing DLC or expansions is really dumb, leading to modders having to make new content for them and it having that artstyle or fidelity mismatch I don't like. Now, with all of that said... The Silence actually looks pretty damn solid and not TOO MUCH of a mismatch, and it makes me more excited about this mod!
Well all I will say is this, keep in mind this is still early access to this mod, not even to the whole thing as it where. Things like the models are still being worked on and refined and it will likely look a lot better once the final product is out. Even then you have to admire the coding behind it as I don't think any creature in Subnautica works quite like how the Silence does, being fully on sound alone.
I feel the exact same about mods trying too hard to be scary. Im glad someone else mentioned it. It kind of makes me roll my eyes. Subnautica is scary because the creatures are mindless predators acting on instinct and they don't care whether you die because they have no concept of morals. Making them sadistic absolutely destroys the horror. Them being intelligent enough to understand morals but ignoring them to instead mock the player feels too edgy and detached from the world and its lore. My biggest pet peeve though is when people make the PDA incredibly OOC. She is a robot. She doesn't care what happens to you and having her warn you as if she's also afraid destroys the immersion. An easy fix would be to just make her speak like she normally does. Robot providing facts.
i played it and i was running away in my seamoth and let me tell you it made me feel so safe when the ghosts started coming back neve thought that would happen
My start of 2024 was depressing ASF but you make my day. Whenever I feel down or bored I watch your videos and they make me smile even if I'm down. You are an amazing person and I hope you live a wonderful life. You are special to me and a lot of others. Keep up your gride and I love you (respectfully ofc).
Sounds like the way to deal with him is to progress moving forward and stop all activity when you notice him coming near. You wait for him to pass by then continue. It also seems like he will never directly attack you, but only your equipment, but the problem is that if he destroys your ride, you are no better than dead since you will not make it up in time.
Yeah, I don't know if you remember from Aci's preview, but the moment you were in "silentwaters" and the only sound was your heartbeat, I knew the Silence Leviathan was after you.
@@OnatparagusYT I'm trying to come up with something to respond with but I'm blanking so hard lmao. I'm just gonna say you made a fucking DOPE Leviathan and I hope you know your creation is beautiful nightmare fuel. pure perfection. also you seem cool :)
My actual thought process on watching you get ambushed and learning why: "Ah, seems like the easiest thing to do would be get within the silent waters, then ping sonar until it ap-appears... ...oh. Oh crap." o_O
@@TheLastBacon Okay IDK if it's this mod or something else I had to download to get the mod to work, but on my way down to the Lost River(I had a base in the cove), just beyond the Disease Research Facility, I saw a damn shark! Not an alien shark, a normal Great White shark. Just casually swimming around on it's own. IDK if it's a placeholder or what, but as you can guess I was rather confused.
The silence scares me three times as much as the gargantuan. Reason being this. The garg can in no way sneak up on anything. It is too loud and large for that ever to be possible. The silence makes no noise at all until it's already attacking, can be nearly invisible, and has nothing to clue you in to how close it is beyond the foreboding pound of your own heart. Even the sonar (which it's worth mentioning, attracts it like a dinner bell) fails to reflect off it's body, whether it's optically visible or not. That implies that it absorbs sound perfectly. And that isn't even to mention it's signature ability. 6:23 Emiting sound at the exact same amplitudes as the surrounding ambience but with opposite wavelengths, effectively silencing all ambient sound... so the only thing that can make sound in it's presence is other living things. Understanding that busted as hell ability, one would naturally be lead to assume it's an apex predator that eats like a king. 6:15 And yet a scan will tell you it's starving? How can that be!?
I think aci did a video of concept arts of custom leviathans and the thumbnail showed the silence leviathan. I don’t know but I think it was inspired of that thumbnail, anyways. THIS MOD IS SO COOL!!!
By far my favorite Subnautica youtuber. I can watch your content without getting overstimulated by someone yelling, and enjoy what you have to offer. (No offense to youtubers who do! They can be just as entertaining, they're just overstimulating to me as an autistic person who has a noise sensitivity. I love that you often showcase mods, or games that are lesser known as well, like unfinished mods with less attention. I imagine it's a great way to support the Subnautica modding community. Your videos are so fun to watch! Subnautica is a huge special interest/fixation of mine, so I always love watching new videos or re-watching old videos of yours.
Damn, I remember seeing the same concept by a fan (or maybe it was a scrapped idea by the dev team?) that went into detail about an leviathan that warned you of its presence by "nullifying" all sounds and it was mostly just like an instant death event. Pretty cool stuff for a horror game but Subnautica is only a horror game by "accident" more or less, its still a great exploration/building survival game at its core
This creature is perfect, and its design makes a lot of sense for the depth. Reminds me of fish seen from the deep oceans on earth, such as the very bony viper fish. It’s worth noting though that there are also non-bony deep sea creatures such as giant squid and sperm whales.
I love the idea that the leviathan is starving so it has become very thin and evolved using the crystals that it ate and I'd love building a base in the void islands because i love building on multiple different platforms with bridges across the islands and pretend people are with me studying the scilence. I also love the fact it senses for vehicles btw i think its partly inspired by the reaper bc both are blind (debatible for the reaper) both use echolocation and both can grab and destroy your vehicles Fun fact the silence stabs your seamoth with some horn on it's head and thats why it insta kills your seamoth
My subnautica time line 2009 i was born 2018 my frist time ingame (scared as all hell) 2022 i played bz and loved it but stoped playing late 2022 2024 i got back into it and my face turned red at first sight of a reaper i lived though and now im on my way to the mountain island
For my subnautica playthrough I grinded for more titanium, converted it into more plasteel and unexpectedly almost have gathered an inventory loaded with Stalker teeth.
So I have a theory about the silent Leviathan which no one's going to like. Sea creatures normally have the ability to grow to fit their size and their food available. Pda states that the Leviathan is emaciated and possibly on the verge of death. Things that don't get enough nutrition don't grow. So this would tell me that this Leviathan is smaller then others of its kind were well fed. So this creature could not only be much more girthy but also much longer. Now this depends heavily for how long it's It's been emaciated naturally, if it hasn't been eating much since it was young then it wouldn't be in much at all, but if It's only recently started to starve then it would probably only be a few inches shorter then others of its kind. I'm going to say it. This creature does seem smaller for something that primarily lives in the void. In theory in the void there would be massive filter feeders like the Ghost leviathans for it to feed off and a area to grow in that is deeper than all of the All of Earth's oceans combined. This tells me that this creature is most likely still young or hasn't eaten much since he was very young stopping It from growing. So it all realism there could be one who's three times larger than this this one and that could be the norm for their species
This is crazy! Just watched the butchx3 video(great video and great suggestions!) and saw this monster for the first time there and confused it for gargantuan leviathan lol!
So you used to play amnesia games, and just a suggestion but maybe you should do a video of amnesia the bunker the newest game. I think you’d love it, it’s got a whole new atmosphere and it is honestly scarier than dark descent in my opinion.
@@TheLastBacon hey, I had a question for you. Do you know of any news about RotA And could you do a 2024 guide to modding. I know how but a lot of them don’t have great quality and an updated video would be great. Also you should do more lore videos about subnautica Edit: oh and also shaders, I’ve been struggling to figure that out
They should put the concept of the living biome in the void biome, the scrapped idea of the big single organism that attacks every light source (you can search it up), it would fit well with the dark ambience and would make the void biome even more impressive.
They do actually intend doing a similar thing to the single celled organism biome, but instead of vines it's going to be tentacles. So far they have multiple leviathans planned: The Lurker leviathan which is the very first leviathan you encounter, when you first enter the void there's a relatively big chance that a pitch black bat-like leviathan will chase you, but it will always stay out of sight and stalk you. You're NOT going to see it, it blends in with the darkness since it's pitch black. It will stalk you and follow you back to your base and when it's night time it will strike. It will roar and disorient you while using it's tail to pierce through your base and rip it apart until it catches you, there will be defense mechanisms that you can put on your base such as crystals that stop it from piercing that part of your base (tiger plants work as well) and you'll have a signal transmitter that will stop it's roar from disorienting you. It will try to attack you until it no longer can't or gets too damaged by the tiger plants and it will eventually return to the void and stop attacking your base. Second leviathan is a mesma leviathan, it will try to convince you to come closer and closer to it and you won't realise it until it's too late. The new Hydra sub has a sonar that scans underwater islands but the mesma leviathan will try to disguise itself as one of these islands and will fool the sonar to lead you closer to it. If you realise that it's a trap and escape before you reach it, next time you encounter it, it will have different tactics to lead you to it. They are the main reasons why the sea emperors are almost extinct. The worm leviathan is by far the most large out of the bunch, it hides in a bigger floating island and will only attack you if you intrude and explore the island. It is highly territorial. And there's the shadow leviathan in the mod and the single cell organism which we know absolutely nothing about as of yet Oh and there will also be mechanical precursor leviathans that will try to stop you from reaching precursor bases and islands
Check out the original video by Aci! Massive shout-out to their entire team :) ua-cam.com/video/DkRKEXaxRs0/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Aci

Yeah I think this is already looking awesome :) And I’d imagine it’s all open to change and polish before full release.
Haha yeah it’s strange feeling safer with the ghosts :)
Thank you so much! Glad I can help a bit when you’re feeling down :)
This looks terrifying. I want more. Keep going Aci!
Absolutely :)
“Don’t worry bro, the scanner says this is an ecological dead zone”
-now missing crew member of the cyclops
Haha oof :)
clean transition into the seamoth at the beginning!
Heck yes :)
Yeah very solid strategy :)
DAMN! I'm getting a pc soon and subnautica mods is one of the things I'm most looking forward to, i am both hyped and terrified to play this
Oh you’re gonna have a great time! :)
That transition was clean!
Thank u! :)
Amazing job as always bacon! Good job m8!
Thank you kindly! :)
Yeah, I don't know if you remember from Aci's preview, but the moment you were in "silentwaters" and the only sound was your heartbeat, I knew the Silence Leviathan was after you.
Yep exactly :) Terrifying!
OMFG I SAW THIS LEVIATHAN AS A CONCEPT SOMEONE MADE, TO THINK THEY MADE IT AN ACTUAL MOD! THIS IS SICK!! :D
It’s so cool :)
Said someone here, hello 😆
@@OnatparagusYT I'm trying to come up with something to respond with but I'm blanking so hard lmao. I'm just gonna say you made a fucking DOPE Leviathan and I hope you know your creation is beautiful nightmare fuel. pure perfection. also you seem cool :)
@@tooth2887 Thank you very much ^^
"This looks like the Grim Reaper of Leviathans." We already have one.
Valid :D
My actual thought process on watching you get ambushed and learning why: "Ah, seems like the easiest thing to do would be get within the silent waters, then ping sonar until it ap-appears...
...oh. Oh crap." o_O
Haha maybe not the best strat :)
Holy heckies, you're handsome. I was not expecting the bacon to be so crispy, LOL. Love your reaction to this shard~
Haha thank you kindly :)
This along side the Dextinction mod and Return of the Ancients is gonna be so terrifying. Fun times.
Gonna be so cool :)
Ryley, traditionally a swimmer, floating 100m up in the air right next to three different leviathans.
Bacon: "Why does he look so scared?"
Haha fair point :D
Idk if you realised, but at 1:48, when your seamoth got oneshot, it used the headbone and stabbed through the seamoth.
Yep true! It’s an awesome detail :)
Yeah I totally get that :) It’s a terrifying concept for a creature!
The fact that it’s starving makes me even more terrified of what a healthy one would look like
Yep absolutely! :)
Judging by the description for now: this specific guy is unique in his appearance and being
3:02 6:18 these freeze frames with the description reading in the background reminds me of those old subnautica lore videos you used to do
Oh good times :)
I think aci did a video of concept arts of custom leviathans and the thumbnail showed the silence leviathan. I don’t know but I think it was inspired of that thumbnail, anyways. THIS MOD IS SO COOL!!!
That would make sense :)
Literally just said to myself "Wish I had a video from the last bacon to watch rn" and my prayers were answered the moment I opened youtube
Haha perfect timing :)
4:48 🗿
:D
Thank you so much for the kind words :) Really happy you like the vids!!
this is giving me PTSD from that one void creepypasta you made, massive creepypasta vibes
Absolutely!! Terrifying :)
I love how it was made they put there best job into it.
Absolutely :)
It’s a really cool design and has a fun gimmick. I don’t think anything will be as intimidating as a Reaper, but this is great
True I think reapers are just on another level :)
Bro just dropped the cleanest transition to the seamoth and thought we didn't notice
Hehe thanks ;)
Hey @TheLastBacon, just wait until they release The Bloop to the public.
Even the sea dragon is tiny compared to it
Yep true :)
Nitrox better get mod support before this mod releases, I need to play this with my friend
Oh that would be SO cool :)
You best content maker for subnautica sorry for grammatic I'm russ
Thank you so much!! :)
I think that exact floating island cave is already in the base game 💀
Maybe :)
Im so excited for the full release (:
Same! :)
It’s super cool to actually see it in the game :)
Sooo when you planning on building a base that spans to the void islands from the crater? Just one long tube into the void.
Haha asking the real questions :)
He’sss baaack!! Love this guy!
Yiss :) Thank u!
Can’t wait for the stalker one I forgot the name of it though its probably going to be one of the last shards/clusters sadly
Can't wait either! :)
Well, they released a leviathan for the very first shard, so the odds are too small
1:48 i died for like a split second from that jump scare 😭
Me too tbh :)
This creature is perfect, and its design makes a lot of sense for the depth. Reminds me of fish seen from the deep oceans on earth, such as the very bony viper fish. It’s worth noting though that there are also non-bony deep sea creatures such as giant squid and sperm whales.
Oh absolutely :) The team did a great job with the design!
There's nothing more satisfying than watching people get scared by a leviathan that I voiced :0
That's so freaking cool :)
this is such a cool mod so far cant wait to see what comes in the future
Same!! :)
"some ghost attacking the lifepod right now, its fine" - thelastbacon
Just another day in paradise :)
I love the idea that the leviathan is starving so it has become very thin and evolved using the crystals that it ate and I'd love building a base in the void islands because i love building on multiple different platforms with bridges across the islands and pretend people are with me studying the scilence.
I also love the fact it senses for vehicles btw i think its partly inspired by the reaper bc both are blind (debatible for the reaper) both use echolocation and both can grab and destroy your vehicles
Fun fact the silence stabs your seamoth with some horn on it's head and thats why it insta kills your seamoth
Yeah it’s super cool :)
My subnautica time line
2009 i was born
2018 my frist time ingame (scared as all hell)
2022 i played bz and loved it but stoped playing late 2022
2024 i got back into it and my face turned red at first sight of a reaper i lived though and now im on my way to the mountain island
Great timeline :)
2:18 He said "por favor" 😮😮
:)
For my subnautica playthrough I grinded for more titanium, converted it into more plasteel and unexpectedly almost have gathered an inventory loaded with Stalker teeth.
Nice! :)
The transition at 1:01 was hella clean
Eyyy thank you :)
@@TheLastBacon how long did it take?

It feels so good to be back
Heck yes :)
*Sees Leviathan*
My intrusive thoughts: That looks tasty mm mm mm
pls help me
i just realized how damn awesome that transition for the seamoth was!
You might be beyond help :D
@@TheLastBacon you speak the truth
You could be onto something there - who knows what a “well fed silence” could look like :)
This is crazy! Just watched the butchx3 video(great video and great suggestions!) and saw this monster for the first time there and confused it for gargantuan leviathan lol!
They are both similarly terrifying :D
I'm already so hyped for the next shard
Same! :)
i just woke i almost fell out my chair, this mod is gonna be wild i swear i think ill need my doc too, very excited
Appropriate response :)
I smiled as soon as I heard your voice. You're good mate :p
Yay thank u :)
This new "The Last Bacon" thumbnail sacred the shit out of me
I thought it sounded like the title some what lol
Understandable haha :)
oh nice another creature to give me nightmares
There are always more :D
So you used to play amnesia games, and just a suggestion but maybe you should do a video of amnesia the bunker the newest game. I think you’d love it, it’s got a whole new atmosphere and it is honestly scarier than dark descent in my opinion.
I played it for a bit on my own and loved it :)
Bout time YOU play the first shard of CotV.
Respect your fellow Subnaut Acituanbus!
Yeah I'm always the last one to try any new mod :D
I just played it last night and I also almost crapped my self
Understandable tbh :)
@@TheLastBacon hey, I had a question for you. Do you know of any news about RotA
And could you do a 2024 guide to modding. I know how but a lot of them don’t have great quality and an updated video would be great.
Also you should do more lore videos about subnautica
Edit: oh and also shaders, I’ve been struggling to figure that out
They should put the concept of the living biome in the void biome, the scrapped idea of the big single organism that attacks every light source (you can search it up), it would fit well with the dark ambience and would make the void biome even more impressive.
Would be so freaking cool :)
They do actually intend doing a similar thing to the single celled organism biome, but instead of vines it's going to be tentacles.
So far they have multiple leviathans planned:
The Lurker leviathan which is the very first leviathan you encounter, when you first enter the void there's a relatively big chance that a pitch black bat-like leviathan will chase you, but it will always stay out of sight and stalk you.
And there's the shadow leviathan in the mod and the single cell organism which we know absolutely nothing about as of yet
Oh and there will also be mechanical precursor leviathans that will try to stop you from reaching precursor bases and islands
