Had this car for over 10 years (new engine, head gasket gave out on last 1) and overheating is a common problem. At 181 thermostat should open, 204 fans should kick on.
One thing I noticed is after awhile the temp on these vehicles will kick on normally but the temp starts to creep up, especially after long drives and driving up hill.

@@swolescott7845 The problem with mine was just about everything. There is a hose from the head going to the heater core that kept leaking and it had a hole in it and I kept running mine like that and overheating. Those are common on these. You can usually tell if it is all bulged out if you notice any coolant sprayed under the hood.

I agree with that sensor not working properly, also 1 thing I noticed is low coolant (especially when it spills it out) can lead to fans not turning on

Bought a 2005 Civic for 700 bucks that had this problem. Was worried it was the gasket but oil looked clean and it wasn't blowing smoke. I found a small crack on the radiator under the cap so swapped the radiator, still overheating. Fix ended up being the coolant temp sensor, fans didn't wanna kick on reliably til that part was swapped out.

That's exactly what is wrong with my 2006 Honda Civic Lx 4 door. The only thing I haven't done is the sensor and water pump. I'm going to replace the sensor and if that doesn't do the trick then it can only be the dreaded water pump. Will it hurt the car not having a thermostat in it? I took it out to get it home.

    Hello mr mechanic. 👍
    Hello there,
I own a Honda Civic 2001 es model.
When I drive on the highway at a steady speed of 100k/h, the engine temp is normal, as soon as I slow down, or idle at a stop light the temp goes up, and it has been as high as the H mark on the dash. When I drive back, the temp goes down again. Small city rides no issues at all.
When the temperature increases, I loose aircond coolness.
I already tried replacing the coolant, get the radiator checked and all.
Findings: I have a bad temperature switch connection, someone just glue it to there sensor. Need to replace it with the proper socket.
I really hope it is not a head gasket issue.
When I turn on the aircond, both fans run. I have checked it. But somehow the aircond fan sometimes stop, need to give a knock on the motor before it runs again.
Kindly do help me. I love my car and don’t want to change it.

Pare! the radiator will not meltdown. the engine overheats, creating a high pressure which causes a coolant overflow to the reservoir and leak out through the top of the reservoir and due to lack of water, the engine will overheat.

Had the same issue. I just took the thermostat and run without one

I don't recommend using a car without thermostat cuz ur car won't reach it's operating temperature and some car will give u a trouble code

Isn’t it better to have a trouble code always on display than to repetitively overheat the damn thing, end up stuck in gridlock traffic ,fudge another radiator up or wind up having an accident flocking with the damn dash continuously ..watching the needle like a hamhawk ..Groundhog Day Bill Murray every dang day..shit is aggravating as all hell..Many have replaced everything A-Z related to the cooling system on these things as it’s like a second job and the fuckers still wanna overheat..if taking the thermostat out knocks this issue out for some ,🤷‍♂️fuck it..tempted to pull mine out myself..cars got 289,000 miles on it anyhow 2003, my 01 has only 170,000,what harm can it do? Worse gas mileage maybe? Who specifies that advice? Honda? The same ones that say don’t put anti seize on the sparks plugs for Honda’s which is also pretty stupid advice I find..spark plug for cylinder 2 welded into cylinder and snapped off.. that was fun.. 👎 Never again..ALWAYS at least a small amount of anti seize, fuck what Honda says on that..sometimes people gotta go with what works bro..food for thought, well see how long it takes to digest.

@@damienwillis6068 Thanks a lot for that bro. I’m still running without it. I work from home so gas mileage isn’t really an issue I’ve noticed. It the fam will switch on after about 20 mins of driving. The gage stays mid level while driving but will occasionally rise when stopped, but car won’t over heat. I’m thinking about putting a thermostat in to see if I get different results. When I had one in after replacing the thermostat, I wasn’t getting any coolant getting to the block…causing the gage to shoot up within minutes. My check engine light is on and I’m getting code bank 1 sensor 1 (downstream 02 sensor) which is a bitch to get to. I need to get that sensor off to pass emissions…05 Honda. I reset the code before testing and they told me I hadn’t driven it enough. It’s been a headache

Where’s the proof? Your evidence is incomplete. It’s just a guess until you test.

its simple brother the issue is car is overheating thats the complaint of the customer ..So gather evidences that proves or lead to overheating car ..And the evidence that i gather is that the radiator fan wont kick on at the right temp which is between 90 to 98 degree celcius ..and the parts that will trigger ur rad fan to turn on is ur coolant temp sensor which is i believe base on the evidence that i gathered is not working properly
