  • Hi Everyone,
In this video I show you different Treble Booster Effect pedals to achieve a Brian May type of guitar sound.
So hope you learn something from it and also you might hear the differences between a cheaper pedal and a more expensive pedal.
Shout outs to (check their channel):
James Rundle, Graig Farley, Peter Quinn.
    Pedals shown are by:
    - Electro Harmonix
    - KAT Knight Audio Technologies
    - Catalinbread
    - Musikding.de
    - TC Electronic
Sorry for the the mic problems from time to time. It was my first video doing a talk to you.

One reason treble boosters really did not catch on is because its usage was almost exclusively in the UK. I don't know of any American rock guitarist who used one.

TB's are good for a lot of different sounds, not just high gain. The type makes all the difference; if you're looking for high gain ,it dosent matter as much, but if you want a broader application, the Germanium is the way to go.Adds harmonics and texture like nothing else.

Thats right, and what I like about the range, as well as Der May, that if you install sockets for the capacitors, you can experiment to the desired sound you're looking for.

Hi Peter. Yes the May/DER MAY!!! sounds quite good for a diy pedal. You should check out the musikding website for this pedal. Maybe you want to try one for yourself. By the way, forgot
To mention, the 3rd dimension chorus was on the 2 setting. You use also or a combination of numbers?

Thanks for the comparison! I like Der May and the KAT most here. The KAT is perhaps a little mushy though. Which one of the two do you prefer Harald?

Personally I like the Der May a lot. Its just has a certain sweet spot in the sound, I can't really explain. The Naga Viper can have it as well, but you need to tweak a lot, while the Der May is instant sweet.

Is it constantly on or is there a way to turn it off ?

Hi Alsay. The KAT Treble booster is always one. So I suggest to take some extra 9-volt Batteries with you. And don't forget to plug out the cable when done ;-)

I use 9v batteries, instead of external powe supplies, with my pedals whenever possible. If there's room inside the pedal I now install a toggle switch that will completely disconnect any power draw from the battery. This means there's no need to unplug the guitar cable from the pedal when not in use.
It's a simple install and an extremely useful feature to have.

It's all sounds pretty wanting to be honest. Thin and fizzy at best. I don't think you can put anything into a 10 watt transistor amp with a 6.5" speaker and make it sounds big.

    • @captainfineweather5610
      @captainfineweather5610 6 місяців тому +1

My thoughts exactly. When I looked at the pathfinder I was like: Honestly? He's going to plug a Rangemaster-type TB into that poor transistor radio? TBs were originally used in the sixties to tidy up the mushy sound of cranked TUBE AMPs like Marshall Plexies or Vox AC30s, thereby creating that iconic Rock'n'Roll sound. It does NOT work with Transistors!

Hi Eagle. Sorry for the delayed response.
The KAT treble booster, has no knobs.
So its just, plug-in, and its activated.
The Screaming Bird, Der May and The Range were all on full volume/setting.
The Naga viper: Range and heat on full. Boost on lets say 75%
