The other thing I like about this film is that the White Widow is the daughter of the broker from the first film, Max. That’s a nice touch to connect the series as a whole, just like bringing Julia back.

Fallout has a lot of good homage to previous MI. The return of Julia (3), Ethan riding motorcycles and climbing mountains (2), Ilsa and Solomon (5), nuclear level threat (4). It could have been a great finale if they wanted.

I loved this too. Hilarious, but also with some purpose. I knew a bouncer that did this back in the 90s, and it was to jerk his sleeves and clothes free (to make sure they weren't going to bunch up or restrict a swing after having been in a grapple). Henry is the best!

The helicopter stunt pilots refused to do some of the specific stunts in the final chase scene. So naturally Tom Cruise learned to fly a helicopter AND to do the super difficult stunts.

I enjoyed them but I think it's totally unnecessary for him to do them himself for real. Like if he had used stunt doubles and CGI, there are videographic and editing techniques that make them look authentic and the audience would find the movie just as immersive and enjoyable. I myself don't like the idea of buying a movie ticket just to see stunt shows but there are just people who are entertained by watching the movie knowing he did them for real and they turned out to be the majority who contributed the most to the box office. And this propels him to keep risking his life.

When Ethan walks into the back room at the club where The White Widow is speaking, she is eulogizing her mother, Max. It has not been *explicitly* stated, but that almost certainly refers to Max (Vanessa Redgrave), the same arms dealer from the original Mission: Impossible movie. Both The White Widow and Max are in the same business, and The White Widow has CIA connections, something likely facilitated by the final scene of Max in that first movie, where she tells IMF agent Kittridge that she might have some sort of information to trade with him in lieu of being arrested. Vanessa Redgrave and Vanessa Kirby even bear a certain resemblance to each other (as well as the same first name).
When Sean Harris agreed to appear in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, he had one request for writer/director Chris McQuarrie: just kill his character so he doesn't get roped into being in several sequels. McQuarrie agreed, but in the end had to betray his promise, leaving Solomon Lane alive to re-appear in this movie. He doesn't even kill Lane here, either!
George comments that the movie portrays MI6 as evil, but frankly, it doesn't portray the American agencies as much better, since Alec Baldwin's Hunley and Angela Bassett's Erika Sloane have to be convinced to play things Hunt's way in Rogue Nation and this movie, respectively. Overall, I think Fallout at least makes some attempt to explore the sacrifices and contradictions that a character like Ethan faces all the time in terms of what matters most, and I think the portrayal of MI6 is not much different than that.
When they do the switch with Benji in the mask and Lane, Lane doesn't blow their plan because he doesn't know it. He was knocked out when it was being discussed and I don't think he has enough information to ruin it in the brief moment he sees Walker before he's taken away.
It is true that Tom Cruise broke his leg doing the jump shot in the movie. If you look it up, he discusses it on the Graham Norton show in a video you can find on here.
For more Henry Cavill, I highly recommend his other contemporary movie adaptation of a classic spy TV show. In 2015, he appeared in Guy Ritchie's The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which is based on a show that ran from 1964 to 1968. It's such a fun, slick little spy thriller and would make for an excellent palate cleanser after you've done Dead Reckoning Part One and are waiting for Part Two (currently partially completed, but in limbo due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike).
Lastly, while there have been two-parters throughout movie history, this summer was heavy with them. In addition to Mission: Impossible and Spider-Verse, Fast X was also the first half of a two-part finale.

When skydiving you can move side to side as you're falling because of the current or something, I learned this as part of my training
Solomon Lane was hyperventilating to trick his brain into thinking he had more oxygen than he had because he was going underwater.
Tom Cruise did breal his ankle and they used his take because that's the rule in cinema.

Early in the video George says he wants this to be the new Assassins Creed, I think a large part of the appeal of AC is the historical stuff though, representing sometimes under utilized historical settings in videogames.
However there was an old series that'd have been perfect to turn into this kinda thing, Mercenaries, first one was an early open world game set in a North Korea that's gone hot with China, South Korea, the Russian mafia and the US all on the ground and you're playing as a Mercenary who can work with any and all of them for intel (they all get pissed if you're working for all of them though unless you do it covertly, had quite a cool system for that). Very silly plot of course but it worked perfectly for what they needed.
You're trying to hunt down the deck of 52 who are the top NK generals and such, most of them apart from the aces were out in the open world and you could just find them if you went out and about or you could do missions to get intel on their locations. Think the sequel was set in Venezuela, had a more mixed reception with some pretty nasty bugs and then the company got shut down shortly afterwards before they could really fix it, an early casualty in that gen of EAs habit of buying studios and closing them down.

They do keep pushing the "current day" plotline in all of the games, though.

I'll admit I've not played many AC games since Black Flag, a lil bit of origins but I fell off that and never got back to it, in both of those though it felt like the future stuff was very far in the backseat compared to the first 4 or 5 games and the stuff with Desmond. I'd guess they started putting it more at the forefront after that though?@@DJKuroh

In the scene where he jumps from the roof, to another roof and lands bad. He actually broke his ankle doing that jump. Mind blowing.

I didn’t catch this the first few times I saw this film but Vanessa Kirby’s character (The White Widow) is the daughter of Max (Vanessa Redgrave’s character) from the first Mission: Impossible film
    That’s an impressive callback!

6:38 indeed he didn’t… well, he did but he didn’t… and not without injury - 24:12 you called it right when you saw him hobbling away, he did indeed break his ankle and filming had to be postponed until he had recovered. When he did, they attempted this stunt a few more times, but weren’t happy with any of the attempts… so the one which he injured himself is the take that made the cut.
27:13 He learned to fly the helicopter for this finale, and did all the stunts (apart from ramming helicopters together of course)… if he’s not an adrenaline junkie, then he’s the bravest man on the planet (I guess he could be both)
33:29 😂😂😂 can we just take a moment here… Rebecca and Michelle are stunners… does TC have it in his contract that Ethan can only attract the planet’s most beautiful people?
35:18 it’s probably something like “I’ll take care of him”… it was something that didn’t require a response, so she wasn’t asking for permission, or anything personal like “is he any good?” (You know what I meant, don’t pretend you didn’t 😂)
You guys have caught up to date just in time, MI: Dead Reckoning Part 1 will be out for general release this coming week or so. And I ask again, does TC have it in his contract that Ethan only attracts beautiful people, because they added Hayley Attwell to the cast for MI7

James Bond from the 007 novels isn't magically good at everything either. He spends most of his time studying stuff in and office and a minimum amount of time doing actual fieldwork. In Live and Let Die he actually takes like 2 weeks to train diving before he goes after the main villain.

The biggest and best of the bunch.
Christopher Mcquarrie as director just raising the bar even more than before to a major level.
In IMAX, it was a must see and no way you saw it first in another format.
Henry Cavill as August Walker (wow).
Vanessa Kirby as The White Widow and daughter of a character from M-I:1 (cool).
Baldwin & Bassett as the bosses (hell yeah).
    Few months later.
Early 2019 in fact; Cruise, Paramount and Skydance annouced back to back sequels.
One for 2021 and one for 2022.
Of course, everything was pushed back to now and all worth waiting for.
Glad you enjoyed all the missions so far.
M-I:7, Dead Reckoning part 1 was incredible too and you won't be disappointed.
