Knowing how to SING a song is not just about saying the words or belting them out as loudly as possible. Pop singers today seem to have forgotten that. Petula Clark could teach them a thing or two or three. This version is awesome, and I say that as a fan of the Dusty version too!
I would say that Petula's perfect diction and crystal clear vocals are sufficient to say that she as done it once again.
Petula is magnificent at finding classic songs and then putting her own spin on them and then making them her own.
It must be the brilliant actress she iscoming out.
She sings this song perfectly just like she does with other songs she as recorded such as "Homeward Bound" and "Fool On The Hill."
She is incredibly inventive with how, through her expert knowledge, she knows with pin point accuratecy how she wants to put across a song to her fans and the audience.
I have never seen such spendid results from anybody else but Petula.
It is a uniqueness she as all to herself.
And it is us her fans who are in receipt of the rewards.
Not a fan of compression either.
If people want to know what makes a great singer, analyze Petula Clark. She has everything and then some. You're right. Many if not most singers today think screaming, twerking, and occasionally hitting a reasonably sound note is more than enough.
It’s THE BEST version 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
The most perfect version.Awesome Sweet Very Sweet.
Of all the people I've heard sing this, she's the best.
Unlike alot of the other versions of this... Clark really tells a story with her notes - like she's recalling a memory.
It’s more passionate than the others versions. There’s a jubilation and excitement that climaxes and soars and then floats back down again.
@@Belzedar Great description... It's almost as if Petula is being directed... like in a movie.
@@annemoore733 :: It is simply moving/touching - even when you know the song, she has "nerve", or "presence" (weird expression for some recording!)
Petula Clark sang The windmills of your mind at the Waldorf Astoria in the early 1970s to a standing ovation. Another beautiful song she sung that night was The Fool On The Hill. That is also on UA-cam.
For those who are interested, this is better than La Streisand's version. Why? The tempo alone, as it's moving, moving, moving relentlessly like a windmill. Her voice is compelling (as always-- a real voice).and her diction is impeccable, as it must be moving at this tempo. A really fine, fine job.
Oui, oui, oui !!
Petula Clark's version is the best for this song! Love it!
Heysem Kaya Her vibrato is kinda nervous here sometimes.
@@paxwallacejazz and yet it's the best version in my opinion too
Great voice florecer.
cidden öyle dimi
Which one was first
Is this the original???
Such an interesting and original singer and person too. So professional, three minutes on the dot, no self indulgent drawing the song out.
ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON in everything you have said Ian H.
best version ever. timeless. Thanks to everyone that make this available to eeryone.
💯 Per Cent in total agreement with you DJ I couldn't have put it better myself.
Well done indeed.
Such a beautiful, precious music rendition by Petula Clark. Love it ❤️.
Those songs of the 60's and some before and after had such great melodies and lyrics to make you think and performers who were genuine performers with amazing abilities. I should seek out more Petula Clark songs than just Downtown.
YES JACK please do and I promise you that you will not be disappointed at all.
Downtown is Petula's signature song but she as recorded songs that are very much equal to Downtown.
Don't Sleep In The Subway Darling, Don't Give Up,I Know A Place,A Sign Of The Times, The Other Man's Grass Is Always Greener are just a few of the many awesome songs that Petula as recorded.
Listen to them and you will not be disappointed.
Simply stated. This is the best version that I've ever heard of this song. Simply magnificent for such a great song.
Yes Petula does keep it on point and makes it her own.
A brilliant version of a classic.
Petula Clark is THE BEST of the best.
Masterpeace..Love you Petula Clark. Thank you for this song.
Round
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning
Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes of its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
Like a tunnel that you follow
To a tunnel of its own
Down a hollow to a cavern
Where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving
In a half-forgotten dream
Or the ripples from a pebble
Someone tosses in a stream
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes of its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
Keys that jingle in your pocket
Words that jangle in your head
Why did summer go so quickly?
Was it something that I said?
Lovers walk along a shore
And leave their footprints in the sand
Is the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand?
Pictures hanging in a hallway
And the fragment of a song
Half-remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong?
When you knew that it was over
In the autumn of goodbyes
For a moment you could not recall
The colour of his eyes
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
;)

Beautiful Petula Clark, Sweet Golden voice TIMELESS!!!💖❤😎
What an angelic voice!
Best...version...ever. Period!
Hands down!
Agree...
@@wafaamerzouk6011 , you better heard Sting's version. Even Neil Diamond.
@@ruebendejesus7039 I like this version much more than the Sting's. And from what I heard (around a dozen of most popular versions on UA-cam) this one is the best. Don't try to argue, it's a subject of taste 😉
@@KnightAlmighty , yeah! it's a subject of taste. My prefer version is Dusty in female and Sting in male.
Beautiful song!
The human imagination is never ending.
The mind is swirling with memories and ideas.
Keep it turning the right way, stay positive.
The poetic lyrics are cleverly woven into song resulting in a beautiful rhyming musical fabric.
BEAUTIFUL,SWEET,WONDERFUL.
,
A beautiful rendition --- perfect diction!
I think this was the version I was trying to remember. I very vaguely remember this being on the radio when I was little, but it wasn’t the hesitant version of Noel Harrison (I think that was his name) or the more fluid Dusty Springfield cover... it was a woman singing it and it adhered more to the spiraling musical structure which really brought out the slightly manic tone of the song as a whole. It’s nervous breakdown music... or something you listen to in order to prevent one.
Merci Petula.
This version even beats Dusty’s. Great job Petula
Pet Clarks version is so moving.
This is the best version and unfortunately it’s not on Apple Music.
It’s best version!
The best version! full stop
Such a beatifull version.
This definitely the best version 🤣
Wonderful melody!
Just marvelous!
This song is special.
Petula Clark & Barbara Streisand are both great singer
The windmills... wonderful!
My complements to Petula Clark for her excellent rendition of The Windmills Of Your Mind.
I second that. She was a fabulous entertainer and fine singer!!!!!
@@scottmiller6495 SCOTT mate SHE STILL IS.
Recorded a brand new track with long time friend John Williams for his brand new album.
The track Petula sings on is a very, VERY good song and is very "catchy."
It is called New Flag watch it on You Tube as of July 2021.
Many thanks. JK Esq.
Beautiful!
+Carolina Rodriguez Amazing song and performance indeed!
Super 😊
Beautiful to listen to a song that isnt, as is the case today, just one note with a teenager having a tantrum passing for the vocals
This is the best version in my mind, my own opinion.
Tant de beauté dans cette femme. Tant d'élégance dans cette lady. Tant de resplendence à travers le temps. Je l'aimerais toujours à jamais.
Like somebody who never ever see's through the cloud. Looking up to the Stars without seeing any people there. People are in the stars today. Brian A Koller
I was searching for you petula ....for a while
Pet's rendition and that of Dusty Springfield are my favorites... _ Tom 73 Delaware
Dusty Springfield is still my favorite but I do like this too 💕💝🙌
Nostalgia belíssima da minha vida.
Amo su tono vocal 🧡👌
The best version of this song I love Dusty but the tempo and the right amount of angst blows this one out of the park
Nothing of the kind. Only French version of this song is the best - " Les Moulins De Mon Coeur" . And nobody can perform that song better, than Frida Boccara...
@@alexsidoroff4084 I wonder why Petula did not record "Les Moulins De Mon Coeur". She had a huge career in France in the 60s.
yes, she has the best enunciation
the best version, I don´t know if this is the original, but, i like it.
Compliments and Praises this is a great cover.
Best female interpretation.
Fonderfull sång♥♡
+Tarja Auvinen I like it a lot too
Ingilizcem cok iyi degil ancak şarkinin söylenme tarzi Petula Clark'in sarkiyi hissetmesi hissettirmesi muhtesem otesi. Bir şarki bu kadar güzel yorumlanir ❤
"The Damned" by the Plasmatics brought me here.
I like how he got his bitcoin adress in his description. If he got like a 100 dollars in 2015 he would have a tonne of money
gorgeous.
Top version of the song.......................djs.
Wonderful

Luv the low brass on this performance. Wish I could find the sheet on this.
Beautiful interpretation
This ok..Nothing beats Dusty 💔
Les moulins de mon coeur. Michel Legrand
So sad I can’t purchase this on my iTunes
New commercial....bet the majority did not know it is Pat clark singing it.
love it, got here from saint laurent self video
Same here. After hearing it a couple of times , my question is,was this song in any of the 007 flicks ? Seems like it would be.
Me too
@@robertdecker4780 No, this song was not in any 007 movies, although it would have fit perfectly. However, it was in The Thomas Crown Affair, which was a neo-noir art heist movie. Windmills of Your Mind was actually in both the original movie (starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway) in 1968, and was sung by Noel Harrison (Rex Harrison's son). And in the 1999 remake (starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo), the song was sung by Sting.
I'm Lost for this tune...
Steve McQueen, ‘Thomas Crowne Affair’ opening theme song.
Killing then softly brought me here
This is exactly how this song shouldn’t be sung. It’s so weird to hear different singers try to put their own stamp on it by messing with the rhythm....and by doing that, they totally ruin the harried nature of the lyrics, meant to convey crowded confusion in someone’s mind. Just as the title instructs. Then, of course, they all open their throttles and start belting at some point, which also ruins it! Noel Harrison “got it” right, in my opinion, bc he evokes the mood the song is trying to convey. There isn’t even a stop or musical break at the end of the verses, they go spinning one into another, and another, exactly as intense emotions spin in our heads when something important ends, and we wonder what happened. And that’s the magic of this song: spinning smoothly, no syncopation, no breaks, no rubato, nothing imposed, anywhere. It is what it is, simple, a bit harried, soft, no big production. Not like this!
I think you are in the minority here ,you are entitled to your opinion but Petula is a song stylist and always gives her own take on a song and I love it .
Wow
I think she sang at expo 67 in montreall
Why this version no on Apple Music ...?
Camarero!
Is this Kenny Gill we’re talking about
-Camarero
-que?
why did this get removed on spotify?
Voice of an angel if they existed which only idiots believe they do.
