Notes about the 'One Song' series: The idea for the 'One Song' series came about when I was trying to come up with a cool idea for my next EPIC/MEGA amp comparison with around 30 amps. So I came up with the idea of writing a song in multiple styles that would do a good job of 'testing' the versatility of an amp. It would start clean and end with metal. And I thought it could be interesting to use multiple guitars, so one for each section. Then I realised that it would be cool to release each amp's video individually first and when I'm all done I'll upload a compilation that would essentially be similar to all my other mega comparisons, including all the timecodes etc. This will be called: 'One Song, 30 Amps!'. So that's the plan basically! However, I'm also planning on running the song through some modeling platforms to also demo those and see how well they can work with all the material in the song. I've chosen to NOT use the same IRs for each segment this time because I want to use cab tones that the amps are 'comfortable' with. So don't view this as a direct comparison of the amps per say, but view it as an amp showcase that also allows you to hear how the amps function inside the song or inside the music, of course in comparison to one another in that sense! This will showcase the uniqueness of the amps more, which is more fun imho, and it also allows me to be a little bit more creative when reamping each amp. Plus: some of you guys will say 'they all sound the same' anyway and the different cab sounds will make the amps sound more interesting and unique! For the metal segment I'll very likely use a boost pedal for most of the amps, just so you metalheads or djentheads can hear how a downtuned baritone with a boost sounds with the amp. Anyway, I hope you guys will enjoy this series and I hope I made the song interesting enough to listen to it a couple times (because I don't expect anyone to watch all 30 or more amp videos lol). -Jon
One of the very best, if not THEE best demo of this amp I've found on YT. The full capability is shown right here... Thank you for putting this together. I salute you, buddy. Job well done, well done indeed!!! 🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂
Amazing tones and amazing riffs! Man this track is really good, it’s a perfect declination of styles that really shows the potential of the amp. So much more inspiring than the typical gear demo. Many thanks and please keep it up 👍
It is very clean and detailed sounding. Dig it. Your playing is super clean, which is why it still works for the metal stuff. Guys who need monster gain and compression cant get away with that.
I have the combo version of this - with a 10" Greenback (swapped out the "V" Type). Sounds amazing, and use for practice and gigs. Best amp I've owned. I jump the channels, and dial it in based on the room/guitar, etc..
with the metal tones, can we please have a section with a guitar tuned to E standard? The baritone or dropped tuning doesn't give an accurate sound for me to say yes or now on how heavy the amp itself is. You could record a fart, play it in B, and it would sound heavy as F### lol
Everybody knows the amp sounds kick ass in the room with a speaker cabinet but what are you recording with that's what makes all the difference on how well you get a tone
Great demo but this isnt just the amp on its own, sounds like a lot of processing going on. Any chance you could demonstrate the amp with no effects? For example the song “ramble on” has a nice clean start and the you could kick in the gain using the pedlal that comes with the amp? Then jumper 2 inputs for some dynamic lead? Just a thought - but I for one am leaning away from the ST20Hc to SV20h and a cab 😅 I love a nice vintage sound, but I really like the classic look and tubes used in the studio vintage… and what ive seen so far is very cool
Great demo! If you don't mind, what were the boost settings during the baritone part? I have a baritone with hot passive pickups and an incoming SV20 head. Any tips? I don't have that particular boost pedal. Sounds like you'd cut out a fair amount of low end.
I would love to see a VS video of the SV20h and the OR15 with the master crancked ( or Rocker 15 of JR#4)! I can get a pretty "plexi" sound out of my JR#4 when I crank teh master and use an attenuator!
Did you use a power soak to control loudness? These amps can get very loud! Another incredible video, thank you for the incredible gift of demonstrating these amazing amps! In the old days it was possible to actually play them in a store, now our only hope to actually hear them, is to watch videos like this!
Hi you are number 1. On amps comparison. But can you make a video ☝️. On how to connect s the head on a cabinet s because I searched all the UA-cam I didn’t find something clear and thank you
Has anyone ever used one in a band situation? I mean how can we say it’s versatile but then use 5 guitars, change the settings, set it for jumpers, pull jumpers out. I want to know if I can play the thing.... anything is versatile if you change the settings 10 times.
I see you have a lot of guitars. How can you maintain strings for those guitars? I only have 4 guitars and I already see my wallet hurts A LOT to maintain fresh feel of my string sets (Ernie Ball Slinky user, average 2-week for 1 set of strings for each guitar :( ). If I only play for fun, I will save more money. But I record quite a lot so all of my guitar's string sets must be fresh or near fresh so I can record best possible tones. Can you explain your process please? Thanks
@@SonicDriveStudio Thank you for you fast reply. I will try them. String thing is my no1 headache now because I am preparing to buy 2 more guitars. Thank you once again.
@@SonicDriveStudio ok great. I am on the fence between that and the SV20. I contacted Wang about availability, they can either be ordered from China, US or UK. I like the idea of hand wired....
You really know how to play well and get great tone. I don't know how to play well, or get great tone lol I hope to be like you someday. You rocked this shit.
That's because it's the real deal, it doesn't use a preamp stage with preamp volume and master volume like more modern amps do. But any seasoned guitarist knows that driving the power tubes is where the true tone is at.......which is what this amp does. Ya need a decent attenuator to get this amp down to "bedroom" levels. This is one loud ass little amp, even set on the 5w mode. I demo'd these myself and I much prefer this SV20 over my 50w JCM 800, hands down. With a Fryette PS-2, you can get the best out of this amazing amp at any volume level. The Fryette PS-2 is pricey, but it's well worth the money. I wish Marshall made this little Plexi available back in my gigging/clubbing days, because most gigs were small to medium sized venues, and in order to get my 50w JCM 800 to sound it's very best, it was just too freakin' loud. Back in those days, a really good attenuator was too damned expensive. But this SV20 would've solved most of my problems, and IMO, it actually has better tone than my JCM 800.
Clean tones make me cry. They are wonderful! Really nice rock tones. I don't like at all crunch tones with single coil... it's seems too thin for me...maybe with humbucker are better
I agree I want a Marshall but they are overpriced and I hate living off of disability checks because I would of had a JMP by now if I won the lottery or had a good under the table job.
Everybody knows the amp sounds kick ass in the room with a speaker cabinet but what are you recording with that's what makes all the difference on how well you get a tone

Ur opinion which one if u could only pick one, 20watt head friendman runt or the Marshall sv 20?
These riffs are fucking awesome man.
Wow. This was an amazing auditory journey. This amp really does it all! Great playing! Especially loved the chord voicings during the "rock" section.
WOW! I've watched every video review of this amp I can find, and this is easily the best one out there. Great work!
Thanks!
except you aren't hearing the amp. you're hearing a bunch of pedals.

Damn that's unexpectedly very good for metal. Sounds killer!
My all time favourite amp.
Wow! super surprised how it handled metal and such. Real versatile!
1:20 I love that dissonance typical of metal in the context of classic rock. You clearly have great musical taste.
Brilliant!! Executed so well, played with balls and full of great melody! Really makes me want the amp! 👏🏼

The best Marshall there is!
Dude you write some great riffs man
Wow! Sign me up. One of these and bunch of different cabinet configs and you could conquer the world.
Ya know I was thinking about getting rid of this but forgot how versatile it is thank u for reminding me
You rule dude! This is an excellent demo!
Damn that was good! You know how to do good demos man......keep 'em coming!
Sounds huge!
Wow - thanks for this entertaining demo.
the only clean/dirty marshall tone I love. wow..
Fire Riff and Demo 😍
would love to hear the boosted rock tone though. great tones.

what loadbox did you use here? sounds very niiiiice
Would love to see how you use the FX loop on that amp! Epic playing brother!
Why use a maxon to push it when you haven't on the other heads? Cant compare properly.

what exact model of telecaster are you playing at 07:55????
I think it's the jim root sig.
Ever since I got a Plexi style amp, I cared about playing rhythm than soloing…. The kerrang of the A power chord is just too good.

Fractal Audio LB-2. I also have a Captor X which is great in its own right. I'm looking forward to trying another one on the channel soon, stay tuned!
