If your wrists hurt during workouts, you can strengthen them! My experience: you might find it encouraging that your wrists don't NEED to be that strong. Just durable enough to withstand your other workouts and not be a limiting factor. In that case, sometimes just regularly warming them up with these stretches gets the job done! Unless you want to blow everyone's mind with incredible wrist strength - then I say go for it! A short term solution is to "lock out" your wrist with parallettes, dumbbells, or knuckle push-ups. And yes - I've mentioned this in videos before but I still get questions about this a lot 😅. Have a wonderful day!
Yea I got that problem, I had to resort to small dumbbells then got paralletes. The most annoying thing about building muscle is not being able to push to failure cuz of tendons/connective tissues
I’ve had three surgeries on one wrist, my ulna shortened, plates and screws applied, and then removed a year later. My surgeon says technically it should be fine, but I have a serious mental block 😅. It got worse after I broke the radial head in five places a couple years later. I wish I could find a trainer as lovely as you to work with!

I have one wrist that barely bends due to a sawmill injury when i was 20. Now im 48 and started doing 200-1000 push-ups daily for the past 4 years. I feel great, and have never really had pain issues with my wrists other than the injured one. Best wishes going forward. 👍🏽🤌🏽🤛🏽🤌🏽💪🏽
One important note for knuckle push ups: make sure to balance your weight entirely on your first two knuckles, the largest ones. The smaller ones aren’t strong enough to bear weight and you can easily end up with fractures. I learned this a while back in karate class. Also only ever punch with your two largest knuckles. The more you know. 😊
I can't remember where I learned this. The other knuckle bones don't line up with the bones in the forearm. The first two knuckles from the thumb have bones behind them in our hands that line up almost perfectly with the bones in our forearms when we do push-ups correctly on our knuckles.
A ganglion cyst was killing me for the longest time. I started doing a bunch of incline pushups every weekday and then the thing randomly went away in my sleep. Now I have to build up strength in that wrist, so this is a super helpful video
This person has a cist on the right wrist , also. Get bigger during exercise. Medical docs say don't Use it. Wear a brace for protection. I question it. How is it supposed to heal? Or go away ??
.Iv had the same issue for 10 years now. One side super weak because the dang thing. Never been able to bench anything because it hurts so bad. Iv just started lifting with it regardless and it kinda ....blew out or something and got smaller
I would love it if you did a video for people with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Like hyper mobile people. Some of us are actually very stiff / immobile because muscles compensate for jello joints and tendons. A mild version of this is actually pretty common especially in people with autism and ADHD symptoms (it’s genetic). Like any info on strengthening specific muscle groups for better stability would be amazing. Obviously only if you’re interested in the topic but 🤞
I have add and nerve problems also suspecting I might have eds(hypermobile that has caused me arthritis at 18 years old) but I've found crocheting helps me a lot and it helps me with my anxiety too. I really like crocheting plushies and it's a simple hobby to bring to doctor appointments or when I can't sleep at night so it's a win-win I get serotonin from completing a project, the rhythm calms my anxiety, and it helped a lot with my nerve problems in my hands I could barely hold a cup still and now I can pour my own drink and write somewhat readable but it's a start, there's a lot of things I can crochet like clothes, decor, plushie, etc. so if I get bored making something I can make other things. Hope this helps! Edit: my new doctor(first appointment with my family doctor yesterday 11/8), he listened to my concerns and why I thought I had it, he understood me a lot and referred me to a rumitoligist(I think that's how you spelled it) and a geneticist so I can get tested, he said if I do have it then it will explain tons of my health issues(he literally said he's still had a some left to read my health records, and this is the first time I brought it up to a doctor so I was surprised since I've mostly heard you have to fight to get tested but I guess I got lucky with my mom transferring me from pediatrician to her and my sister's family doctor! I'll try to update this when I get a appointment date and what they tell us. Just wanted to let you know there's doctors that will listened and understand you.
After breaking my wrists (left without surgery and right with 2 surgeries and titanium plates and rods inserted and removed) my wrists and push up became my most painful exercise. Thank you for this advice. Definitely need the long term solution.
Ooh, you might want to contact a physical therapist and whoever did your surgery (so you know where the rods n plates are when ya stretch), about whether you can do certain exercises or not, as stretching outside a range that whatever rods or plates allow for would probably hurt you real bad… really just be careful i guess lol
@@ArbiterBlu Wow, thank you so very much for that level of concern. Truly appreciate that. The rods and plates are fully removed, only healed bones remain. HalleluYAH All praise and glory to YAH Most High for helping me heal. The stretching I guess just takes a long long time.... Maybe weights would help?
This has been a challenge for me with yoga as well. Everyone I've asked in a yoga context just says to put more weight into my fingertips, which doesn't help at all haha. I have broken both of my forearms previously, and this video reminded me of the exercises I did back then to recover (after the bones set) strength and flexibility. Looks like I should've listened to my PT and been more consistent with those after the initial rehabilitation period 😄
I used the dumbbell technique for quite a while, and it actually did end up strengthening my wrists in the long term. I can now do pushups/planks without any wrist pain again.
I remember when I hit my max bench at 210lbs. Nothing I tried worked. Turns out my wrists literally weren’t strong enough to hold that much weight without buckling. Starting doing wrist curls with 10-15lbs in with a couple of months I was able to increase my max again.
my right wrist bones stick out of place and i have to gently push them back in, either literally or with some rotations. strengthening and stretching never worked for the pain, but now that i know the problem, im working on it!! im an artist so i use my hand at an odd angle a lot. my left wrist is fine lol
Thank you for this! I injured my wrist years ago and it has become stiff and painful to put pressure on it in a flexed position - esp doing push-ups or pushing off the floor when doing yoga. Will try these soon!

sorry to hear you're dealing with this kind of pain and disability. please continue exercising and consider adding physical therapy or massage therapy to your healthcare plan if you haven't already.
I've been struggling significantly with wrist pain and one of the critical things my physio has said is that to put less pressure on your wrists, you should also strengthen your shoulder muscles! I do wall push-ups, shrugs with a resistance band, and wrist bending exercises and it's made a huge difference. If you have more upper body strength and control, you're less likely to strain the smaller muscles in your arms
I fractured my scafoid bone and now my wrist is still in pain even after the bone healed. Really hoping these long term exercises Will help me get back to being able to do pushups
I pretty much have to use parallettes or do finger pushups due to a couple of old broken carpal bones (wrist bones) which severely restrict the range of motion of my right wrist. I prefer using parallettes over finger pushups. I can do three sets of twelve on a good day, ten or eleven on most days. With finger pushups, three sets of eight or nine. An orthopedic surgeon told me I could probably get most or all of my range of motion back but it would require surgery and re-braking and resetting those bones, so I'd be in a cast for six weeks. Probably a cast that went up to my shoulder to completely restrict any arm movement which could effect that area of my arm. They would also need to shave off a tiny bit of bone here and there, and if it wasn't done properly it could be all for nothing or perhaps even worse. No surprise, I decided to pass on that.
Thank you so much!!! I've repeatedly injured my wrists so I've always avoided push ups and things because I'm paranoid about reinjuring them. I've never been able to get a straight answer on how to strengthen them 😅
