Are you sponsored by Kong? It seems you mention it everywhere even in your shorts but you don't say this is sponsored content at all. You have many good pieces of advice here but I noticed this after only 2 videos and 2 shorts then started looking and it's extremely frequent.... Just know that it's illegal to have sponsored content without labeling it clearly as such.

I agree with most of these things but you shouldn't exaggerate. Switching a dog's brand of food is just that. Dogs will eat anything and as you know they can enjoy some really disgusting stuff. They're built to withstand scavenged food which is mostly rotten.

I am in need of some advice for getting dogs to stop pulling on the leash! I haven't been able to take my Pit Bull for walks on his leash ever since he became stronger than me because he will be dragging me down the street. And I have a Chihuahua that is a little over a year old and if it weren't for her being so small, I wouldn't be able to take her for walks either! She pulls on the leash from the time we step out of the house, during the entire walk, and she doesn't stop until the walk is over. I walk at a normal pace but she's trying to run down the sidewalk. I said, we're on a walk, not a run! If only dogs could talk and understand what we're saying! And I'm not going to try to blame my dogs for it. I mean, I have 2 dogs with the same problem so I'm assuming that I am doing something wrong. So if anyone can give me some advice or tell me where I can get some advice, I'd greatly appreciate it. I feel so bad for my Pit Bull when I take my Chihuahua for a walk because he knows what we're doing and he just watches us walk away and he looks sad, or at least disappointed, that he doesn't get to join us for a walk. Please help!

3mins in and i can tell your not a dog trainer and dont fully understand the psychology of dogs. as well as needing to use better terms. like you said in your first point its completely untrue to be able to train any type of animal you must have them doing something (that they dont know which in turn is uncomfortable) doesnt mean that its wrong or you shouldnt do it. almost at the end now 9:35 something else about a dogs psychology its your tone not what yoiur saying. u can yell at your dog i fucking love you and the dog will still think your mad at him over all great video tho you should consult a dog trainer if your going to be giving afvice that could actually be harmful to the dogs furture ive sdeen it where on your first point they didnt put the dog in any new or uncomfortable places so long story short they had to pay 500$ usd to get 1session of advance dog training or put there dog down.

My 15 year old Jack Russell died in my arms a few weeks ago. To say he was my best friend and companion is an understatement. I can't tell you how much joy and love he brought to my life and how he kept me going through bad times. I got him as a 9 week old pup and he put his head in my arm on the journey home. He died the same way 15 years later. A love story. Love you and Miss you Louie 💙❤
Edit- I want to thank everyone for your kind comments. I don't always get notifications. We had to say goodbye to Kitty this week. He had cancer and was 15 years old also. I took him in as a stray with him mummy cat the same year I got Louie. So this week has been hard. Just the emptiness really. My son and I buried Kitty in the garden and added his mum's ashes and some of Louies so it feels like they are all back together again.
For those that are asking I do have a 1 year old frenchie. I got him last year thinking Louie would like a friend ...he hated him for a good 2 months but in his last few months Louie took on a parental role washing him. And so the cycle of love continues but there will always be a hole in my heart over Louie. What a special boy he was.
I wanted to add aswell that if you have lost a pet that online groups helped me. It can be a very lonely time dealing with grief. I found a group on reddit called petloss and it helped me so much to know I'm not alone. Just know you are not alone. Grief is Grief.
Sending big hugs if you are going through it and again thank you for the lovely comments so kind of you all ❤️

I'm so sorry for your loss. We had to put down our first family dog a year ago today. It was brutal and way harder on me than I thought it would be. I don't cry very often but I broke down several times. It's going to take a long time but you'll heal and it won't be so bad. I still miss him every day. It sounds like your Jack was very well loved and wouldn't want to go any other way.

Awww. I know how you feel. My little old man is living out his last days…going to be hard. I always just try to focus on the happiness and love they had in their too-short lives. There are so many dogs, and other pets out there, who aren’t so lucky.
There is an account of someone who was not a believer in the after life. He had an allergic reaction to something and went into shock and actually “died” in the emergency room, and while they were doing CPR on him, he found himself in a big grassy field. Running towards him at top speed, and then leaping into his arms, overjoyed to see him again, was his dog who had died several years before. I like to think that this could happen, that if death is not the end, that all the animals I loved will be on the other side, waiting for me.

"Your vet knows your dog best" is a very dangerous statement. I've got clients whose vets have prescribed stuff thats given them all sorts neurological and bodily disorders. Always research what your vets try to give your dogs. Same way you would with your own doctor (I hope). Not all vets are created equal and many have very little experience with particular types of dogs, like my baby Malinois for example.

Most vets are morons.. absolute morons.. but, I chose a vet I RESPECT.. and he knows about dogs.. I could tell you some horror stories about vets and I always walk away laughing because they are so stupid.. one vet terrified my son by telling him if a dog licks you, you will loose an eye.. from some worm.. 😂😂 I don’t like dogs licking so they don’t.. but WORMS AND LOOSING AN EYE.. HILARIOUS AND EXTREMELY RARE.. He didn’t like it that I had very large dogs because ‘they can be dangerous’.. and he let me know.. I have had dogs all of my life, breed and show, take blood tests myself, remove stitches because I can’t be bothered driving an hour to the vet to get them removed and help during some surgeries.. so I know a bit about dogs.. 😂 Oh, and I always have human medications here like flagyl etc. just in case..

      @ChallieWallie Рік тому +9

Yes, we often say people/children and animals need a routine, but what they really need is clarity. Knowing what is going to happen and when.
A routine provides that. And the routine between you and your dog is that you communicate and he knows that you will provide what he needs.
Having a schedule might be good to start with until you have that bond with your animal where you can communicate this well.

Another great video. One of the things which makes me really sad is when you see people taking their dogs for a walk in the park - but they don't let the dog sniff around and explore, greet other dogs (obviously not all dogs are friendly, I mean the ones which clearly would love to say 'hi') and if they do let them say hi, it's one quick sniff and then 'come on! this way!' and they drag them off like they have somewhere to be. What kind of a walk is that? It's about quality, not just quantity. Like you said in, I think, the previous video, it's not good enough to tire your dog out physically - it also needs mental stimulation and having its doggy needs met, and a fast jog around the park with no play, exploration or socialisation is just not a dog walk. I always think, imagine if someone did that to their kid, and wouldn't let them go on the playground or say hi to their friends or look at the pretty flowers...

    • @kleenk8
      @kleenk8 10 місяців тому +6

Agreed. My dog makes more stops than a city bus. Frustrating for me at first until a friend told me it's like they are reading the paper when they are going for a walk. They are just trying to be informed on what's going on in the world, so now I let Chief have a little more time.

The worst walks are when other people don't leash their dogs. No matter how friendly they may be, when a strange loose dog or person comes running at a leashed one and their person, flight isn't possible but fight is.

The Guide elaborates on the techniques used on the show. The examples given in the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 are helpful and some of the techniques suggested very useful. One such technique/tool suggested was the lure stick to encourage a small dog to keep up with the heel command. I have a small dog who lags behind smelling any and everything and find it hard to keep bending over while walking to his level. The lure stick is great also for another dogs focus and sprinting at anything that catches her eye. The stories about different dogs, their different temperaments, have been helpful, especially Lulu's: After reading about Lulu's challenges I felt relief concerning one of my rescues that I have had for 10 years. Over many years I have checked out many training books from the library, watched different shows, DVDS, bought training books, taken lessons and this book is the best by far! Kindness, patience and perseverance works.

The part about dogs hating when you're mad at each other is so true, even to a point that when humans just play rough and joke around, dogs interpret it as actual or potential conflict. People many times misinterpret this as the dog being jealous when the dog comes in between and attempts to interrupt the humans. But it's not jealousy, it's the dog deeming the situation potentially dangerous that could lead into a big fight and injuries, so the dog tries to stop it. Even as mild as a hug can trigger this, since it involves people being very close and grabbing one another, easy for the dog to misinterpret as a conflict.

My partner and I got our first puppy (8 week old) and the first weeks at home were hell. We both felt inadequate and horrible owners because he would seem confused and sad all the time - to the point we considered giving him up to another family where he’d perhaps be happier. We took the week off together, everything ‘puppy this, puppy that’. We would look up so much online every day trying to find out what we were doing wrong when that was the problem all along - we expected one method to just work, when the whole time he was just looking to us for training and guidance that was inconsistent from the beginning.
Once we got back to our normal routine we realised how we’d neglected our own health and relationship. After a few self care days (making sure to include the pup!) we we’re all so much happier and have a clearer understanding of our responsibilities.
I’m so grateful to have found your channel and the amazing community here, seeing the same challenges that we’ve faced and still to overcome has provided us with the confidence to ensure our Benji has the best start possible 🐶❤️

My fiance and I have a dog that's not quite a year old yet. We saved her from a REALLY BAD home when she was probably 14 weeks old. The home was so bad that she was locked in a bathroom with another dog that wasnt much bigger than a port-a-potty. Her old owners wouldn't even clean the water bowl and they were drinking their own poop out of their water. It gets worse than that too but that's all imma say on that bit of the story. LUCKILY we were able to save her from that house before we moved out of that county, and now she's almost 5× bigger and aside from the occasional problem, and the PTSD and separation anxiety she's the best dog you could ask for. We don't "spank her" and we try not to yell at her bc we're aware of the situation she came from. I've been wanting to service dog train her but we think she's a little bit ADHD so she has a hard time focusing during training, but that could also be bc she's a hunting breed, but we don't take her hunting (she's a red bone ridge back mix). "Focus" is actually one of her commands for that exact reason. 😂😂

Thanks for helping two species get along better. Here's a 14th thing that dogs hate; one that can be really bad for humans who think they are being friendly. Strangers sometimes approach dogs of all sizes from above and put their arms around the dogs' necks. People then put their heads down near the dogs' backs to sort of embrace them. The problem is that many dogs experience this gesture as dominance. Many will tolerate it, but a few won't. The friendly human might end up getting badly bitten, possibly near or on their face. This is not good for dog or human!

My dog never growls or gets “upset”. He will tolerate “hugs” from me and the family in the position you are talking about. And then , if we lay down close to him with our bodies parallel he will lay with us, but if we look away and the back of our head is toward his face. He will give a very quick and loud low growl. I forget every now and then and turn my head and feel bad for “scaring” him. 😕

It mentioned that dogs may not like getting their coat brushed. But my brother's dog LOVES getting brushed and dried off. He would always freak out when he's able to get brushed off, and he gets excited for it after a bath, but he doesn't wanna take the bath. And when we brush him, he sits right in front of us, rubbing against us, and sits there for so long and then paws at us if we stop

@robjohnston1433 Yes, you are lucky! My doggo used to like being brushed, but after she had surgery to remove her uterus (it was badly infected and wouldn't go away), she now mostly hates it! Especially around her sides and underneath, those are a real struggle every time.
Edit: she loves the doggo-blowdryer we have though! So I try to use that before brushing to blow out a lot of hair that's already loose, and it helps loosen up the rest that has to come out too! Thought I'd add that on in case someone else with the same problem reads this 😋

I used to feed my dog on all natural foods rather than tinned or kibble. 4 parts meat, 1 part vegies and 1 part complex carbs. If you have a friendly butcher that sells cheap off cuts this can work out cheaper than tinned and is better for their stomach than kibble. As far as the dogs being different is concerned I have had two English staffies and they were poles apart. One just wanted to lollop on me most of the time and didn't want to do much other than a walk down the park and back (less than 1/4 mile away). The other? Permanent play time except when we went on seriously long walks (about 10 miles) down by the river and down the park it was not just sniffing it was also chasing a saturn ball until I'd run the legs off him. He got the park treatment twice a day or that and a really long walk once a day. The back door to the rear garden was permanently open. At home he had some chew toys and several tug toys.

Mine dog has plenty of room to run and roam. I have a very large lot. My dog is a Belgium shepherd. I am very well mannered very well behaved dog. I love her dearly. Sometimes I think more of her than I do most people. She is very well behaved. I never punish her because I want her to love and trust me and let her know I would never hurt her under any circumstances when you punish a dog he doesn’t understand what did I do to deserve this then I lose trust in you. You have given great advice And I take it to heart and you’re right this is the way animals or dog should be treated and loved and cared for. Thanks for the video.👍🏼👍🏼😁❤️❤️🐶🐶

Dogs are not your friend like Bob and Harry are.
It's like 90% friendship and 10% I'm in control here. That is still healthy.
It gets unhealthy when you give them too much freedom (no boundaries) or too many boundaries (no freedom).
A dog is like a child - literally. Dogs are mentally 2/3 yrs old. Treat them like your 2/3 yrs old. Simple. They're not there to be an emotional punching bag just like your child wouldn't be. They need to be themselves, loved, cared for, encouraged and kept in check when they're naughty.

I avoided getting a dog. Almost a year ago, my nephew kept telling about a coworkers dog bound for a shelter. He was correct, my dream dog, black and sable German Shepard. At the time so timid, only 9 months old, bounced around too many house holds. She got out of the yard and was hit. No words can relate how hard it was to carry my best friend across the street. We did everything together. It took a few weeks, still not over losing Nayla. I ended up with a 7 week old puppy. I don't want to see dogs in shelters, and especially Shepards. Ginger is Husky, Rottweiler, St. Bernard, Pitbull. Sweetest puppy, around other dogs and people.

I bought that leash for nothing.
Now whenever we go for walk I just let it follows me. It's acting like a surveying drone. Going back and forth and around me. I never train him or anything. Only when crossing road i had to pick him up in case he is too slow or stop.

If the other human(s) and if applicable dog(s) are alright with distant presence and willing to accept approach we'll approach but I keep her sort leashed because she doesn't understand social ques in the slightest and will invade space jump on the people(she's getting better about jumping on people but continues to ignore dog social ques at my daycare where i work and take her she thinks everyone wants to play and isn't even deterred by growls or hated teeth insisting the other dog wants to play regardless of what the other dog does and she's been playing with other dogs since at least 4 months but probably had some social training beforw I adopted her cause she's always been eager to meet everyone but is also clumsy at meeting smaller dogs unintentionally trampling them

I not only taught my two dogs to sit but the cat learned as well. She saw the dogs getting treats and really wanted her piece of chicken. So she learned to sit on command. Simple commands like sit, off, stay, speak, and guard are easy if you have yummy pieces of chicken. I have poor hearing So I put my dogs at the door and say guard, they will alert me if someone comes to the door by barking loudly. Although that does scare the crap out of the fed ex guy. My boy is 130 lbs. He is large even for his breed. The fed guy got used to him and knows my big boy is not the one to worry about it's the much smaller but still large 80 lb female. She would be viscous if I hadn't put a lot of effort in to her training. With love , time and a lot of training she has learned not everyone is a bad person or an intruder. She's fine if you let her make the first move because she really does want to play and be a friend but because she was abused she doesn't trust a lot of people. I love her, and she knows it and in her way she returns that love and trust. She learned that if she makes a mistake it's okay but she won't get a treat or a bath which she loves. She's a nibbler. She doesn't eat fast , she takes her time, a few bits of kibble at a time. I had to watch them eat because my big boy would sneak her food or the cat would sneak her food. So I had to watch her eat. I had to work with her a lot , she would pace and be on guard while eating. It would take her a good hour to finish off a cup and a half of kibble all the while watching and very wary, pacing back and forth. She learned She could eat in peace and slowly began to eat all her food. Rescue dogs come with baggage and sometimes you have to gain trust before you can properly retrain a doggo with a wounded heart. She's a happy healthy girl now who loves water and playing fetch the cat and sit on her face. No she's not actually hurting the cat. These dogs packed that cat around every where when she was a kitten. I thought that cat would never learn to walk, jump or do all the normal cat things. By the way if my dogs start barking at something the cat is yowling at it too. I guess when in Rome..

We have a pom and she anti-social, it does not matter who it is or what it is. At a distance she act like she is going to eat who or what ever up. But when people or what ever gets close she becomes friendly but cautious. Everybody seems to want to pet her but I them, she needs to get to know them first. She has never lashed out at anyone, but the way things are, why take the risk. I do not like it when people just come up and start touching me, and I am sure that is the way she feels. When we go out and bring her along the wife like to play this game of pointing at people or animals and having her to bark at them. And she gets so excited and acts like she is going to eat them up. I do not encourage this type of behavior. Every once in awhile the wife drags me along to her family gatherings. We bring along Izzy our Pom and everyone loves her. All the children want to pet and hold her and she loves it. For the most part she will get along with all the other pets. She does not seem to care to mush about cats. The wife and I consider her to be our own child. But being a parent is not easy.

my dog has the boiled meat of three or four chicken drum sticks deboned with some of the juice from boiling it every morning, at night he has a can of good quality dog food, also in the bowl is some dry food and some cold meat for humans, that's a three course meal, that's what he is used to so he eats well, i love this dog he is so low maintenance i don't have any problems with him what so ever, he has been off lead for the last 8 years he knows the routine and does not break the rules he gets to run around off lead on the streets and sniffs around and pisses on stuff, he just knows what to do, he never runs on the road, he wont cross the street by himself, there is no way my next dog will be this good, they all have their own personalities like humans, my next dog will probably need the lead ???

I did this for a week (replacing the beef with turkey and chicken. He never ate the commercial food, and was never sick. He won't even eat the little dog treat the bank gives me.

Every dog owner needs to introduce their dog to toddlers in a safe environment. Many dogs don’t actually recognize toddlers as people, they are to drastic a size difference.
So if a dog sees a toddlers for the first time in a stressful situation they might bite the child because they don’t know what the toddler is.
So teach your dog that toddlers are their friends. It will greatly reduce dog attacks.

I actually got a Chihuahua boy in 2019 in 2021 we got him a girl while covid got us stuck at home we thought with my husband better to get him a little friend to play with lucky we live in a house with a backyard now we have 3 Chihuahua babies on top of the 1st 2 Chihuahuas, my first 1 I did a lot of mistakes with him, the 2nd I got better at training her, now with the babies we have a dog kennel outside for summer or when they want to stay out and another one inside just to sleep in when they feel like, and it's smaller just for the babies but I'm gonna have to train the babies cause while I live in Australia and we are going towards winter, they have been spending more time inside and naturally they are wanting to get inside after 5pm it's about when it start to get dark and cold and I have been picking up their poop for the last week. Now I'm alright with 2 of them but 1 of the babies is a girl and she is so scared of us she's alway alone not playing not interacting with her parents nor siblings and she always hide under the couche when she's inside, curently my husband is at a hospital have an amputation and i'm kind of out of ideas with her, so if anyone have an idea on how to aproch her or getting her to relax and get close to us please feel free to advice me, even better please do not feel uncomfortable or anything like that I really need some advices ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Not gonna lie, I was expecting a silly simple list of things we do like singing or hugging like from a video from another channel that I watched. Was disappointed in the other video because it didn't really address any real issues, and the points they made were not really universal since different dogs have different behaviors and personalities. The stuff in THIS video actually addressed the important things, like proper discipline, routines, expectations. The points in this video are pretty good things to follow, not just for dogs, but for social animals in general. Good stuff 👍

I just used apple bitter on things she wasn't allowed to chew (then got more chew toys), and gave her a spray when she would jump on the counter. Everything else was treat training. Dogs are good at reading body language and tone of voice - if you are consistent. Encouraging what you want instead of what they did is easier. Good behaviors require less reinforcement over time but they still need regular recognition, occasional rewards or enthusiastic responses. You don't need to punish a dog or yell at them to let them know they did something you don't like. Allow your feelings both good and bad to show overtly so your dog can learn to better recognize subtle differences.

Getting low isn't necessarily a sign that your dog doesn't want to engage. They might very well still be curious, but they want to show the other dog that they are not a threat. My dog does this often, where she might start low to the ground while still moving towards the other dog. As she gets closer, she raises herself up and greets the other.
Also, hair on the back is one I don't think was mentioned. But if your dogs hair stands up, that's probably the most tell-tale sign that they are on high-alert, and it's probably time for you to intervene. All dogs are different and behave differently with different personalities. So, what you see with one may not be true for the other.

Wait, you have a Golden Retriever & didn't mention that they're an exception to the first one? My Golden Retriever grandpuppy has never come across another living organism that he didn't want to meet.

The vet statement is a bit tricky especially in regards to ticks and fleas. We got pushed these drops for their coat to prevent them - kinda like taking antibiotics all the time to prevent colds. My main issue is that I recently learned that research shows that one single of these have enough to kill 25.000 bees so your dog will basically be toxic to their environment ALL the time instead of just fixing the problem if they get fleas or ticks. Vets are great, but they're also a business.

Yes, and cats and dogs can also get very ill or die to these products, they are not 100% safe to every dog. So it's best to use natural methods to control ticks and fleas.

I have an enthusiastic pit bull who loves people and often shows his love by jumping on them. I frequently train him to not jump because he's strong and heavy and people who don't know him might be afraid of him. I also don't tolerate other peoples' dogs jumping on me without my permission. It often takes non-owners' participation to train good behavior.
