New Orleans' Vietnamese Food Scene
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 лют 2020
- Though Vietnamese and Cajun cuisines share a lot of common ground, it wasn’t until a community of immigrants and refugees came to New Orleans in the 1970s that the flavors fused. Over time, their descendants have begun to experiment and introduce new ideas, from Cajun crawfish to brisket bánh mì (and even a phở-rrito). We explore the best spots in the city to shop and eat like a true local.

After Hurricane Katrina, A lot of Vietnamese lost their homes and businesses in and around New Orleans. Many of them relocated to Houston and brought over Viet Cajun cuisine which are now very popular in Houston. These are some of the best fusion food that we're lucky to have
an asian with a southern accent, i LOVE it.
@Von Tran why? is this is a desperate attempt for an argument???? that’s why i waited 3 months to reply.
I am from this great community and am proud to call it my home. Thank you for making this video, it means a lot to see my community in positive light. Us Vietnamese have a strong sense of camaraderie and family. Again thank you for bringing my home to UA-cam to show everyone what I am proud of.
Where exactly is this? Around Baton Rouge or New Orleans?
@Nguyễn Xuân Phúc PM what a snob , don’t even speak English and still think you are better than any one.👎
@@quinby123 This is in New Orleans. I saw a lot of the "Versai" area in the video. Great to see so much change and innovation through food, life and culture. Miss my city!
I'm from here too. Even know most the people in the video. I live in Florida now but boy so I miss me some crawfish
I wish I live there, but I live in northern Louisiana
BanhMi came from Veitnam orignated from Baguett during French colony. And, meeting Cajun in New Orlean, another French colony. What a coincident.
We all know banh mi originated but Vietnamese people make it taste divine even better than is original so there for I am proud of Vietnamese people’s.
so what you're saying is it's vietnamese? because fuck colonizers lmao i'd rather eat shit than give credit to the french 🤣
Went to Vietnam winter of 2019 and I loved every second of it, particularly it's people. I was so inspired by their work ethic and their resilience and the food just blew me away. So glad I got to experience it and hope to go there sometime soon
Hello beautiful Vietnamese people you guys make me feel very lonely where I live I have not meet any Vietnamese people at all . You guys have bring Vietnam to America and i am not talking about just the food the way of life I think you have the best of both world, I wish I could live there. Thank you for sharing your lovely video ❤️👍.
I've been wanting to visit New Orleans for awhile, and as a Viet seeing this video, I'm even more determined to make this happen!!!
Vietnamese super smart we adapt to new environments.
Excellent video , love it
Proud of Vietnam :)
I can eat Banh mi for breakfast lunch and dinner any day !
This is what makes America great
What a shame! Some American idiots have been assaulting Asians who have greatly contributed to the American greatness. Hope hatred and discrimination will be gone soon
@@MinhNguyen-ff6xfgd shame this land is terminally ill. When I was in ROTC in high school my sisters landlord was a North Vietnamese veteran he taught me how to properly wear my uniform and shine my shoes. I’ll never forget that man.
@@alexrangel1123 a north vietnamese in the U.S? you sure you dont mean ARVN?
@@hunter-ws8sx no He was no ARVN he had his old military portrait on his wall. Definitely NVA. He immigrated to the US and made his living investing in stocks also he was a land lord. Ironic
Viet food is so delicious! There is so much to chose from.
Cheers 👍
im glad I saw that :)
New Orleans in the building
Shame Dong Phuong wasn’t mentioned. That bakery and banh mi are synonymous to the area.
I’m Thai American living in northern Louisiana. I was told new orlean is a dangerous place to go. But seeing this I would really love to go there!!!
Visiting is fine. It’s just a city. Keep your wits about you and listen to what the locals tell you what to do, and you’ll have a great time. Millions visit here every year and keep coming back for a reason.
That’s so funny cause there’s a banh mi place in Toronto called banh mi boys too
so dễ thương, "Chợ Chồm Hổm" in New Orleans
Good vid
Damn I'm hungry ~droooool~
this is old video, years ago.

vice stole gugas sound person lol
The older generation Viet people all speak French.
That generation has gone like my grandparents. My paternal grandpa went to colonial schools and took all of the courses in French.
@@MinhNguyen-ff6xf i'm glad it didn't stick around
It is interesting that the media portrayed Vietnamese immigrants in a positive light, but treated US soldiers who fought for South VIetnam with such contempt
It only took many decades after the US did not want Vietnamese immigrants to come, othered us, and ignored us into segregated neighborhoods with concentrated poverty. Only now that they realize we’re people and love our food that they portray us well. And it took a decades but there’s been a turn-around in portrayals of Vietnam Vets to where there are tons of memorials all over the country.
0:25 so it was not a black lady from the south talking? Surprised.
Sao ko Vietsub. Em ngu tiếng Anh

Nhu pretty
Thank the French. They went to SE Asia and gave the world Vietnamese cuisine. They went to the Americas and gave us Cajun/Creole cuisine.
Vice should do a video like this about the cuisine of Goa, heavily influenced by the Portuguese colonists and Indian spices.
This is fcking stupid. Rather than thanking the French for colonizing, thank the locals for being inventive and adaptable in creating delicious dishes in the midst of colonization
Spam
No dude Spam is more Hawaiian cuisine
@@alexcarter8807 dude...I was the first one to comment that's why I was like I'm gonna spam this comment section😂🤣
The only thing that I cant stand is the use of Okra.
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢
Interesting, but not my style of food.
I’m surprise the locals even let Asian people live in New Orleans.
