- G&R Harris Modern Car Spares & Late Salvage. Established in 1952 and based in Nutbourne near Chichester, Harris's is a family run business and one of the very few self service breakers yards left. Unfortunately the yard is now due to close around Christmas 2023… i was kindly invited by Darren, Vanessa and the rest of the guys to film a walk around the site before the last of the cars are cleared out and the doors close for the final time.. Ive personally been coming here since i was 18 when i had my first car which was a mk3 Ford Fiesta. Ive many happy memories here and will be extremely sad to see it go!.. at least i can rewatch this video one day and remember what a fun place this was! There is still a LOT of stock here so if you see anything in the ideo you need for your car then please get in touch with the guys, you xan find there contact number & email in the description below. Such a shame this is closing. I was about 10 years old when my Dad first took me here - I’m 35 now. I still pop in every now and then when I need a part or two 😢
Sad! Used to be my go-to scrap yard when I was local. Great vid mate! 👍🏻
First went to Harris' near 30 years ago and brought a replacement engine for my 1970 Mini Clubman and then brought many parts there over the following decades. Such a shame this business and land is gone forever for more housing.
Brilliant video Colin-spent many hours in my local scrapyard when I was young. There's a housing estate built on it now!
stable fold .
Bunnys scrap yard in Fratton, Portsmouth? remember this in Goldsmith Avenue and it became flats now.
All the traditional breakers yards where you can take parts of the cars yourself have virtually disappeared in the modern sanitised world. Lots of interesting stuff there. Shame to see another long established breakers closing.
Yeah, Silverlake near me is a completely different beast now than it was all those years ago.
in Eu these are illegal since 10 years
It's unbelievable what beautiful cars are lying around in the scrapyards in England!
Here in Germany they would be sold very quickly. In the video you can see the oil in the puddles of water. This is a “no go” here in Germany! If the authorities saw this, they would be there immediately or close the scrapyard straight away!
Thanks for the interesting video!
Greetings
Klaus from Düsseldorf
Been going to Harris's since the 70's spent many hours rummaging around after Paul stating there is one in the yard somewhere! Happy days shame they shutting up shop.
Seeing the 306 brought back some memories, I use to have one, it was a great little car.
Sad not to see these cars on the road anymore. This is a great video thank you for sharing Collin. Have to say the Bentley is very nice ❤
Another brilliant video. Hopefully some of these car can be saved.
Nice job, Colin. Cars are definitely your element.👀
Some cool cars there Colin and in a scrapyard too esp the Bentley hmm money but so grand .....cool video m8 thanks 👍great location
I hate seeing cars get wasted just lay there to rot i would love to own a scrap yard its always been a love of mine i love everything mechanical cars vans trucks bikes quads etc 👍🏻

Well remember visiting this yard many times in the 1970,s especially my first car an Austin A40 bought locally to the yard , happy days !
So sad to see so many great Cars here, when they should be in someone's Garage or Lock-up. Great Location and Video, Col. Keep up the great work.
A lot of good cars ther op they get saved good one take care xx ❤️
Now My Bearded Friend this here is a fabulous find in this Scrap yard. The Bentley the Fiat Abarth, The Mercedes Benz SLK oohh the Mercedes Benz 500 that is one of my dream cars. 👏 thank for this video Mate. Great footage👌🤙👍👍👍😎😎😎
Great explore colin
this is my local yard since i was 15 years old , im 55 years old now, and i still use it , WHY IS HE CLOSING
It’s probably going to be a nice housing estate 👌
Development.
Had many trips to this scrapyard over the years starting in the 80's with my dad. From Morris Marinas to my Alfa GT i got rid of earlier this year. Great memories wandering the lines of cars looking for bits and just having a nose. Many a time this place came to my rescue getting a car back on the road. I am currently sitting on a Volvo front seat I made a chair out of from Harris's yard. Be very sad when it is gone. I heard the closure is to make way for housing.
Hi Colin another great and very interesting video. What an amazing selection of cars, you definitely sounded like a big kid in a toy shop lol!! Some of those top of the range cars were superb. The train crash incident did happen but they got the train out. They had to wait a while for the fire to go out first and then a year later they managed to extract the train from the gulley all due to the extreme water in the embankment. We train geeks are full of this useful information, oh and the train companies never ran another train on that line.Great commentary as usual Colin, look forward to next weeks. Take care.😃
That merc SL proper needs saving
Nice to see some bikes 😜 Thanks Colin
Looks amazing great content
Hey colin ,have you ever been to les oakes reclaim yard in cheadle , staffordshire . Thats sort of abandoned and forgot about and theres some awesome things left there
Not been there in 30 years (Moved away) Paul used to run it at the time.
Wow used to go here back in the 70's with my dad for his car then when my first car Cassington fire we got the front loom from here, good luck for the future
I have a 2.4 litre, V70 D5. 19 years old, 240,000 miles on the clock. Still going.
Very interesting video colin, I'm sure that i saw a MK1 facelift transit connect there, i need some bits for one of those.
Hi colin it's tony Great video Some of the cars Unbelievable Take care
This gonna be a good ❤
Colin we both better get to that wreckers yard and buy everything before they close up for good. Then both our wife's will kill us. Lol.
I love the video. Hope your doing good.
Stay safe and take care.
It sad to hear the old scrap yard is going. I have been going here since the 1980's. Kept my VW MK2 Golf's going for years.
Too funny rip the “hair dresser cars” then get all excited over the granny cars 😂😂
That taxi mot only ran out in June 2023 it had 497k on it so its certainly paid for itself
You do love your cars Colin what ever state their in. I hope they get reused. Some really good ones there. Did you get anything yourself?
Thanks Bearded Explorer 🧔♂️👍
It’s a real shame they’re closing down I’ve been going there for years 😔
Can you please do a "exploring my own cars" video? I would love to see what you got!
Colin you mist the most important section you forgot to show the Vauxhalls did you get brain fade.😀
What a shame, i used to be over there all the time around twelve years ago and as already said, many of the older yards are falling by the wayside, i do remember one of his daughters being very lovely indeed, is it going to be developed for housing do you know?
Was there this morning and no mention of closing
Any Alfa 155 twin sparks? I am in the states but need parts
I know some one who has two mgfs they would give you a drive but you would have to have dinner with them .
Surprised to see relay/boxer not stripped of front end parts for motorhomes
Hi there I love it when you do videos like this when you go to scrap yards
The London taxi would not be ULEZ compliant so loads are available, cheap!
looks to be some old car throttle cars in there
Really?! Which ones?
@@lewisburt3750 im sure ethan used to have a yellow jazz also
@@JDT-19933 never yellow. A silver one and a black one
Why is this yard closing.?got some nice cars here. Hope they find new homes. I'd like to see that train in the mud. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
who is the artist intro music
Colin . Is this the one behind Chichester caravans?? Why is it closing ? 😢
Yes, that's the place...
11:50 Fake Taxi Colin! 🤪😆
Sure that purple golf belonged to a lad in Crawley you sadly passed away in a car accident (not in the golf) his was wrapped that colour and had Bentley wheels air ride the full works hope it's not his but definitely could be RIP sid
OMG what a shame, me and my class mates used to skive off Highbury college in the early 80's to rummage for goodies - me for my Mini Clubman then a Triumph Dolomite, it didn't matter what specific cars they had in, (usually landcrabs, Maxis, Marinas, 1100s etc) in those days as long as it had BMC origins there was a fair chance you could find something useful. I still cringe when I think of a very tidy looking Red Mini Traveller they had lined up by the entrance presumably fresh for breaking, it still had its owner's book and everything else present.... but there again a MOT failure one of those was pretty much worthless 40 years ago.
"JZ engine...?
I thought that the British pronounced the letter Z as ZED not ZEE.
Perhaps I'm wrong.
ive got a, CLK 320, ive just done a twirl and a high kick and a bitch slapp on my boyfreind .
Im staggered and saddened its closed. Ive been going there for 30 years and bought a few cars off them.
It was a very well run site, those puddles of oil are not typical. I do hope Paul, Vanessa and the family are ok. If you guys see this.. all the best and take care.
Hi.. bro my dad have Benz 124 and vw beetle real..
Did you say you thought they were hairdressers cars? Why would that matter?
Just curious! ❤
Think the train crash was in 1951 caused by the bridge collapse
Well im certainly not an hairdresser im a metrology technician dimensional quality engineer and ive owned a 51 plate SLK230 kompressor which was just under 3 years old when i bought it. Only had it a year or so it was horrendous on fuel so top of the range the 55AMG must be barely double figures . Both Saab convertibles ive owned have been far better car's
Do try to save chryslers especially pt cruisers they don't deserve the pain
Never seen anyone get excited over a Saab Diesel Turbo before...never mind want to stick it in another car to make it go slower....
Propably Colin didn't notice it was diesel.
Greedy housing developers will get a fair few piss poor new builds on that very much contaminated land
So many parts to reuse and they crush rhem anyway, sickening
No point watching as seen the whole video before at the start pisses me of just show video from start spolling what's coming up 😢
Although I enjoy your videos I don't value your opinion on the K series engine, especially when you admit to never owning one, so keep your silly opinions to yourself please.
