Peter Zeihan: Collapse of CHINA's Economy, Leaders, and Population (w/Brad Carr)
I am a big fan of Peter Zeihan. I have read all his books and have been following and been involved in the main issues for decades now. I think he has among the best take on things. A lot of Chinese commentators, those who are Chinese ethnically and/or born in China, like to make a big deal out of "knowing" the inside scoop, the personalities, etc. Peter sticks to the main drivers of geopolitics. This is the correct approach, because it is those drivers that constrain the "personalities".
What has also been fascinating, and fun (in a perverse sort of way) is that now we can watch the process unfold in real-time. UA-cam is a good source, as are other media. The quality varies, but by looking at a range of sources a good picture of the situation can be built up. What emerges is a real-time movie with a script written by Zeihan. I don't think this is an exaggeration.
What is most interesting is that the pundits and foreign policy establishment are generally behind the curve when it comes to these matters. I think I can speak with some knowledge and authority having been born in Washington, DC and having experience of these people.

Peter talks all about population collapse but doesn't include robots which will replace this problem.

Robots do not fix the consumption black hole. There will not be enough people to buy goods to have a functional economy.

Peter, your predictions have consistently been wrong. And you are wrong on China. Birth rates are important in countries like Japan which are almost totally urbanized, but China is only about 60% urbanized. They have millions and millions of people that can be drawn from the countryside to fill those jobs. They are also automating at a rapid pace. It will be a long, long time before demographics becomes a major issue.
China is also focusing on value added products, like auto exports, which they now dominate. They are prototyping a new airliner.
China has cheap enerhy. They now produce more sustainable energy, wind and solar, than the ENTIRE US energy production. Add in cheap Russian gas and that huge new oil field discovered in China and they
are set for cheap energy.
