    Really helpful and useful Jeff. Thanks. Video production also continues to grow. Curious about you studio - dark items on the wall on the left and right of the video??
    Just starting but will definitely use this notifications tutorial. Thanks

      @fasthowto  8 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for the kind words, both about the content, and more Importantly (to me), the production quality. I'm trying hard, and it brings me a great deal of joy to know it's not going unnoticed.
      The dark items on the wall are acoustic foam. Helps cut down on reverb in the room. I've gotten enough comments - both on videos, and from people personally - about the studio that I'm considering doing a video walk-through my setup. Camera, audio, editing, lighting, etc. Not sure anybody would watch it though. Lol
      Let me know how you get on with the notifications, and thank you so much for watching!

      @@fasthowto People seem to love studio tours. I'm not a UA-camr ,but moved to a new house and trying to setup my "Man Cave" Right now it looks like the Gaza strip! (Oh!). You can add a lot of affiliated links to them. Don't know if you follow TechnoTim but he just did one today and it has 10K views already! So his is a Techno desk, lab and studio tour - My NEW Ultimate Desk & Setup Tour 2023!

      I don't follow him, but I do watch his stuff from time to time. I just checked out the video you mentioned, and I'm not terribly surprised it has so many views; he has 170k subscribers. When I have that many, I imagine I'll get more views in a shorter prior of time as well. Until then... I'll probably just keep waffling about the "studio tour". IDK. I'm gonna go search around and see how successful smaller channels have been with such topics. Thanks for the idea! :)

    Thanks again Jeff for explaining so well and simply on subjects others fear to go near - great vid keep up the interesting content . As mentioned before I'm using a Dell mini PC with Windows and VMWare - I am seriously considering moving away from this setup , to something easier and less required software. Any suggestions - or maybe later some time hoe to migrate your back-up from one System type to another - quick and easy - I don't have the luxury of time to Hope for the best and try myself. Just a thought for a Vid. Thanks John Sydney AU

    • @fasthowto
      @fasthowto  8 місяців тому +1

      Thanks you for the kind words - and the video idea! That thought has crossed my mind from time to time, but I'm not sure I'm ready to tackle that one just yet. When I switched from my HA Blue to my NUC, I actually opted to rebuild everything from scratch. Reason being, my Blue was my first HA instance, and there was lots of "digital detritus" leftover in there from all my (mostly failed) experimenting. Now that I'm running on a NUC, it's much more stable, and I keep the HA Blue for the experimentation. I also still maintain a version running as a VM in Virtualbox as well.
      As for your specific case - yes, if you're running in VMware workstation, that would be sub-optimal. However, if it's vSphere (ESXi), I'd keep using that. Based on your description, though, it doesn't sound like that's the case.
      One of these days I'll get a vSphere server back in the house. I used to have two, with iSCSI storage, and vMotion and the whole works - but the hardware got to be so old I couldn't keep up with versions any longer, so I put it out to pasture. My wife was pretty happy about the electric bill decrease as well. :)
      I'm really glad you're finding the videos useful, that makes it all worthwhile for me. Thanks for watching, and I hope to hear from you more in the future! :)

    Nice video. Thanks for making this. It's so informative and detailed.
    I currently have an iphone 14 pro max and am following your video to try and setup alerts for a gas sensor. So for I can send & receive text message on my phone. But have not been able to receive the TTS voice alert messages. I do have Home Assistant app installed and working on my IOS device. Standard notification text message are working just fine.
    Looking around the internet I have seen indications that TTS does not work on IOS 16 and above. Can you verify this please. Or is there a workaround?

    • @fasthowto
      @fasthowto  5 місяців тому

      I'm curious how it is you would like me to verify that or find a workaround. I do believe I told you in the video that I do not own ANY apple devices (because of stuff just like the issue you're facing). So, unless you're willing to send an apple device to me, I'm not sure what I can do to help. Thank you for watching, though, and I'm glad you found the content (mostly) helpful. Best of luck with the TTS stuff!!

    I set this up and it works! The crazy thing is that I get a TTS notification even when I am away from my home, yet my HA instance is not on a cloud. Is this normal? How is it sending me a TTS notification when my device is not connected to the same network? Crazy for me to digest as a non techie, but super cool nonetheless.

    • @fasthowto

      Your HA instance doesn't have to be on a cloud, it just needs to be available for the companion app on your phone to communicate with it.

    Hello Him, I followed Him to use the automation of the notification when the phone was fully charged, I would like to ask if there was any way to notify after the designated time, for example, the phone was charged 100% full newspaper, after 5 minutes without withdrawing the phone, the phone is still 100% full and sends the second notice next to me, continuing to continue after 5 minutes until you withdraw the phone charger and the electricity The voice is no longer 100%, no more notice.

      @@fasthowto Yeah, closure is always a good thing🙂 Hey, you wouldn't happen to know of any devices that could send RS232 to multiple devices would you? I need a way to control my media devices in my home theater like the Preamp/Processor, projector etc. These have RS232 inputs that can be used in place of the IR remote. The RS232 also provides much better control like having the ability to make a one button press change that would require digging deep into menus with the IR remote. So a device that connects to the network either WiFi or Ethernet, talks to Home Assistant, and sends commands to the devices via RS232. Personally I think universal remotes have outlived their usefulness, we're an app based world today, not a device based. I'm really surprised universal remotes haven't already gone they way of the pocket organizer especially with something like Home Assistant available.
