It was named "Black Dog" because there was a black Labrador dog wandering around the studio when they were recording. The title has nothing to do with the song itself. One of my favorite Zep songs.
They said that. But, I don't think it's the truth. Other comments about people around the studio makes me think it's a girl. I don't remember where I got that idea. But it's not a dog. I could be wrong though.
Ok guys….watch this live at MSG’73. You KNOW you want to! 😜. It’s great! And the song has evolved live…..there’s audience participation! PLEASE react to it for us!
The title is a reference to a nameless black Labrador Retriever the band used to see wandering the Headley Grange studio grounds. The dog would disappear in the evening and return exhausted in the early morning, before resting all day and repeating his evening sojourns.
Hi k ya paused i paused i am pretty sure some of the words on the captions for the video ya have some of the words are not correct but man so **Raw** **Powerful** k goin back YAY
I remember the first time I heard this song. It was like being hit in the head with a sledgehammer. One of the iconic riffs and one of the best ever 1st songs on an album. Followed by Rock and Roll, what a 1-2 punch.
50 years of being a fan! They never made a bad tune! And yes they are magical live!😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Beg legend means gold digger on the English Island! 😂👍you guys should do song one album one, and work you way through them! 👍
Big-legged isn't it? Never heard that since lp released Lived in Memphis x 6 yrs and all the blues men AND women sang about big-legged women. Once at a blues revival at mid-south coliseum, Little Johnny Taylor yelled out, "How many a yo' women got big laigs?" "I got big laigs! I got big laigs!" rang put around me lol
On American radio stations, Led Zeppelin, like a few other artists, have a couple of "double songs". 2 songs that follow each other on the album, that seem wrong to play one without the other. "Heartbreaker, and "Living loving maid", are the one couple, and the other is :"Black dog, and Rock and Roll".
I mention again ' Babe , i'm Going to Leave you' by Led Zep. The whole band is amazing in this and Page and Plant do not disappoint. In my top five for sure.
just sent ya'll some funds...ANY song live from the MSG shows will blow you away...I am still hoping you will react to "Babe I'm Gonna' Leave You" from the 1969 Danmarks Radio show...or you can react to "Dazed and Confused" from Danmarks Radio show and compare it to your reaction to the studio version...their live performances show how tight the band is...less than a year after release of first album its like they had been together since birth!! Thanks and I will keep supporting you in your trip down the Zep rabbit hole
You guys are so cute , I'm 60 and been listening to them since I was 15 , you have so much tracks to listen to The Lemon Song The rain song And so much more and studio version
Love your reactions to Led Zeppelin. One you must check out is Dazed & Confused live from the 1973 MSGardens concerts included in The Song Remains the Same movie. It is a 30 minute epic that will blow your minds!
Led Zeppelin, to me, is like: every song it unwrapping a new Christmas present!! LOVE THEM! Can't wait to watch your CSNY video, now!! ANOTHER of my favorites!! Have a SUPER WEEK, YOU-GUYS!!! THANKS for the reactions!! GREAT PICKS!!
I have to tip you again, because I’m so happy you played my pick! My favorite couple playing my favorite song!!! Well to tell you the truth, Black Dog is tied with Whole Lotta Love as my all-time favorite song😊… The reason I wanted you to hear the studio version first is that yes the live version especially the iconic 1973 Madison Square Garden show is great… But that was a couple of years after the song was recorded and Robert could not hit those high notes like that anymore… He did the best he could with a road worn voice but to me that studio version is just pure magic! Rock on you too!
Dominika, it's the Atlantic records producers that knew how to record every band on the roster just right. You put that togetther wit L/Z's talent, it's great everytime. And I'm glad you guys loved it so..when Black Dog hit the airwaves, MAN, the parents got big-time upset, but couldn't stop the Zepplin from flying higher no matter how many TV preachers or conservatives condemned them.
As a side note, Robert Plant lost his 5 year old son to an illness in 1977 when he was on tour in the US. The tour was immediately cancelled . He went home to grieve and Led Zeppelin was never the same after that. They released one more album in 1979, but when John Bonham, the drummer , died in 1980, that was it for the band. Robert is now 76, still making music and touring with Allison Krauss.
If I saw you two sitting in your car, listening to music, I could probably figure out that you were listening to this song, by the way you were moving and bobbing your heads 😆 I think this tune does that to everyone. Black Cow, by Steely Dan is another one that'll get you moving a certain way. I don't know if y'all have listened to it yet, but put it on your list if you haven't.
Having just broken cover and commented on your reaction to David Gilmour's fat old sun and asking you to react to echoes live in gdansk, I then subscribed to your channel and see you are still reacting, this was on 999 likes and I also love led zep, so just had to make the 1000th like!! I will be checking many more of your reactions, I've watched all your floyd/gilmour reactions before I finally decided to comment. Your genuine reactions are great , please keep it up. If you've not done it yet suggest you do led zep's "since I've been loving you " from the led zep 3 album. Presume you've already done "Stairway to heaven"
Be careful Andrei, Dominika is turning into a Led Zeppelin groupie 😆! Jimmy Page said that the style of the song where the vocals are sung unaccompanied before the guitars come in was influenced by Fleetwood Mac's 'Oh Well'.
I've actually gotten it from multiple sources that it's true. They didn't have a title for the song and they noticed a black dog lingering around outside the studio while they were taking a break between sessions. I do admit that there is a lot of Zeppelin lore that is not true some that is and some that nobody really knows the truth. Case in point; the shark incident. We may really never know, but I think that Occam's Razor applies in the case on this song title.
Its always a bad woman because they are blues inspired. And blues music is about bad women. Lol. Should really think about doing Rock and Roll, the next song on the album next. They almst go together. Live version of this song and Rock and Roll are fire.
The song is called Black Dog because there was a black dog hanging around the recording studio when this was recorded. Led Zeppelin is musically beyond almost any other band, though their lyrics are, should we say, limited.
Hey listen to the cover by Dread Zeppelin.......Zeppelin songs in a reggae style with an Elvis impersonator as a singer.....I swear you will absolutely love them!!!!!
I had bought tickets to see the band before the drummer passed away… just before the North American tour began. Of course, the band did not continue… and was the story of them. It just wasn’t meant to be. 😔
I thought for sure, they were going to tour after the 2007 reunion concert. But Robert put an end to those hopes. Seems like it's always the lead singer that messes things up. No matter the band.
I had eight row center for the later part of their 1977 tour. I was so excited but it was then cancelled after the tragic death of Robert Plants son. I did get to see them earlier on same tour however my seat was not good it was so far from stage.
This song is out of synch. Bonham is playing in a different timing than the rest. And they did it on purpose. It's what John Paul Jones called a "stomp groove". It's very funky, and impossible to dance to. This is a great video that gives a breakdown of how it's constructed, along with other Zep tunes. ua-cam.com/video/UvOm2oZRQIk/v-deo.htmlsi=ZXytMmaP9Wt660bM
If you want more, watch the live at the MSG 1973😂I'm like you,i hate the previously unreleased studio versions😂Peace from France ✌️PS: Led Zep, would have liked, the fact you call a dog: "Black dog", if he's not black😂😂😂😂😂I think it's so cool....All the idiots on that planet, will ask you: "Why did you call him black dog, as he isn't black"😂Imagine the scene....
It was in Richard Cole's book who was there.
YUP! We toxic-cis♂males ♥ toxic-cis♀'s...(sigh...☮& ☠for ∞! )
Domenika is so in tune w/ Zeppelin, it's as if she's listened to LZ her whole life.
Exactly!

Ok guys….watch this live at MSG’73. You KNOW you want to! 😜. It’s great! And the song has evolved live…..there’s audience participation! PLEASE react to it for us!
They named the song black dog because of a black Labrador that roamed around the grounds of the studio where they recorded the song. 😊❤
those drums are crazy !

Your now officially ready for the lemon song
The title is a reference to a nameless black Labrador Retriever the band used to see wandering the Headley Grange studio grounds. The dog would disappear in the evening and return exhausted in the early morning, before resting all day and repeating his evening sojourns.
The mighty Zep.
Your both are so cude, especially you nice wife!!!!!!!!

I really would love to see your reaction to “I Can’t Quit You Baby” Live at Royal Albert Hall 1970. It is mindblowingly great!!
I am 62 and I have heard this song one million times. Yet I am smiling just like you two! 🙂🙂

miley cyrus does a great version of this song!!
On American radio stations, Led Zeppelin, like a few other artists, have a couple of "double songs". 2 songs that follow each other on the album, that seem wrong to play one without the other. Misty Mountain Hop! Misty Mountain Hop! Misty Mountain Hop! Yeah baby!
Theres 2 diffèrent rythms going on here at the same time. It could easily fall apart but theyre masterusicians so they make it sound easy!!!

Hi Andre and Domica. Hope both of u r well
Led Zeppelin always leaves you wanting more, saw that expression on Domenika's face.
Forrest Gump once said.. "Momma always said, Led Zepplin was like a box of chocolates, ya never know what you gonna get!" Lol❤
Love the smiles on your faces on this Led Zeppelin journey - it’s the same smile we all share!
Love you guys from Phoenix, Arizona! Keep Rocking!🤩

Love your reactions to Led Zeppelin. One you must check out is Dazed & Confused live from the 1973 MSGardens concerts included in The Song Remains the Same movie. It is a 30 minute epic that will blow your minds!

Hi Ed, this was amazing! Thank you so much for your support and for sending this awesome songs our way! 😀
You guys are so cute , my favourite couple to watch
One word describes Zeppelin, "swagger!"
Dominika, it's the Atlantic records producers that knew how to record every band on the roster just right. You put that togetther wit L/Z's talent, it's great everytime. I love her, she loves the good pace, the good rhytym
Great reaction thanks 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Rock on babies!
What a band Led Zep was. Not my favorite but maybe the best of all.
WoW what a wonderful compliment! YAY **RockON!!**
Definitely my favorite and the best!
As a side note, Robert Plant lost his 5 year old son to an illness in 1977 when he was on tour in the US. The tour was immediately cancelled . Wow. Subscribed. Nice reaction. The thing is, your wife just gets it. British blues is basically American Blues taken to the next level.
Please react to HEY HEY WHAT CAN I DO by Led Zepplien ! another song about a NAUGHTY GIRL !!! but a classic
She's right about that. It is a different attitude.
Just a random black dog hanging around when they were recording
Thanks! Please do Black Dog live from MSG73!
Will check it out for sure! Many thanks 💚
🤘🤘
7:35 it's a call and response style of singing, like the old blues songs
If I saw you two sitting in your car, listening to music, I could probably figure out that you were listening to this song, by the way you were moving and bobbing your heads 😆 I think this tune does that to everyone.

OH YAY!!! **Luv** this song!!! I can NOT wait to see this ha Weeeeeee!!! **ExcitedPixieTwirls** k gonna watch NOW!!!
I wish it was the first Time i hear IT 😂😂

John Paul Jones came up with that off beat rhythm..... And Black Dog was born ❤
Be careful Andrei, Dominika is turning into a Led Zeppelin groupie 😆! Jimmy Page said that the style of the song where the vocals are sung unaccompanied before the guitars come in was influenced by Fleetwood Mac's 'Oh Well'.
Ha if anything they are **Both** turning into groupies BUT i prefer to just say **Newest Led Zeppelin Lovers** **Nod** **RockON!!!** **Peace**
One of Page's best solos. Plant's voice is perfect. I don't think any actual dog was roaming around the studio. Whoever said that is teasing. 😆👍
I've actually gotten it from multiple sources that it's true. They didn't have a title for the song and they noticed a black dog lingering around outside the studio while they were taking a break between sessions. 💯
I may be wrong but there was a black dog hanging around the studio when they recorded it
Wanna shake it up, hear another wowzer??? Try ‘Baby Come On Home’!!
They took the start/stop inspiration from Fleetwood Mac's song Oh Well.
Led Zeppelin "trampled under foot " ....please x 😁
👍👍👍👍👍
so tomorrow you guys are doing the 1973 live version
Nice chocolate egg analogy
Ok . fixed it. It was Tv glitch. Did a reset.
No sound on LG Tv UA-cam app but Ok on Android phone UA-cam app.🤔
Its always a bad woman because they are blues inspired. And blues music is about bad women. Lol. Should really think about doing Rock and Roll, the next song on the album next. They almst go together. Live version of this song and Rock and Roll are fire.
Domenika, you just love Robert Plant.... admit-it.... 😍
Have you listened to JOHN FARNHAM-BLACK DOG(COVER)
Upcoming... the creme de la creme...
In the Light
Down by the Seaside
.... the almighty!
××××××××××××××××x
× Ten Years Gone ×
×××××××××××××××××
**Exquisite Beauty** YAY **RockON!!!**
Ten Years Gone...No Quarter
The energy is SEX, SEX, SEX...you cant deny it...pure sexual rock energy!
Many, many great and awesome bands but there will simply never by anyone who can come even close to Zepp. End of story.
The song is called Black Dog because there was a black dog hanging around the recording studio when this was recorded. Led Zeppelin is musically beyond almost any other band, though their lyrics are, should we say, limited.
check out miley cyrus's version of this song at glastonbury in 2019!!
Hey listen to the cover by Dread Zeppelin.......Zeppelin songs in a reggae style with an Elvis impersonator as a singer.....I swear you will absolutely love them!!!!!
Why no MeToo on this, and Leds'?
I had bought tickets to see the band before the drummer passed away… just before the North American tour began.
Of course, the band did not continue… and was the story of them.
It just wasn’t meant to be. 😔
Me too
@juliemanarin4147
No way… Really? If only we had those tickets today as a keepsake… I have often thought.
I did get to see them earlier on same tour however my seat was not good it was so far from stage.
eh 👍
They make a good woman Bad
First!
There is NO thumbs up available to click on... what the hell is youtube doing now?
