This subclass gave me a phrase to torture my friends with, "Chaos cares for it's own." Had my sorcerer's leg chopped off by a crit, and immediately wild surged and cast levitate on myself.

Of all the "Bad Subclasses"
Wild Magic are deffinitly the one bad subclass people aware is bad, but love anyway because they are the most costumizeable Subclass in the entire game
Its no Abberant Mind or Clockwork Soul, but the fact your DM can make their own Chaos List like
Summon a Tarrasque doing a funny dance for 1 minute
A guy randomly teleported to you, with Fried Chicken Wings
Summon 8 Chicken, who are just Chickens
Shoot out a Big Egg that deals 3d10 Damage that can deal Critical Damage

The gym loves and I mean loves wild magic surges but the party will murder you if you chose wild magic sorcerer
One of the surges is character sheet roulette where you swap classes with the person or persons next to you
I played a Wild Magic Sorcerer for a one shot (in the world of our main campaign) and managed to roll a "you cast fireball on yourself" XD I told the DM to lay it on me. She very nearly escaped an insta death by like 2 hp. But she blew up our main party's store front and left a crater for them to find next session.
I play a tiefling wild mage in my campaign name havok. The only thing i changed with this class is i roll for wild magic EVERY time i cast magic, Even cantrips. It plays well with the character's backstory and the group loves it ever since i made a unicorn appear out of some bushes and impale the baddie who almost killed thief in combat. Good times.
That video actually convinced me to turn the ice-focused draconic sorcerer I planned on playing for a fire based wild magic sorcerer.

Probably one of your best vids yet, showcasing a ton of great spells since Sorcerer is kinda light in the class features while also showing off a ton of fun things that can go wrong with Wild Magic! I was skeptical since this episode wasn't quite in line with some of the others being about "OP" or powerful D&D classes but this definitely was a good call since it's raw chaos makes it interesting to talk about.
So, we finally getting Lore Bard last but not least? Very excited.
Back-to-back Unicorns on mine. First time, it saved us from having to retreat. We won. Second time, the very next fight, it saved us a total party wipe. The unicorn has since become the party's patron. Odds on back-to-back unicorns are 1/2,500 . One of the greatest moments of my gaming life!
As a cleric my self I’m insulated you think I’m a healer
I honestly like having one in the party, but I don't like actually playing 1 myself. I usually prioritize reliability over raw power like only taking "Great weapon" master if I have an item or a skill/spell to reduce the chance to hit penalty for example. I can definitely see the appeal for playing this class though, always refreshing to have a bit of chaos in a game to keep things interesting

Seems like having to roll on the wild magic table every time you cast a spell could get frustrating. All in all it's a cool mechanic though.
It's not everytime. Cantrips don't count. And it's only if you roll a 1 on d20 after casting a leveled spell. And the dm can just say no.

I make sure to use the Tides of Chaos on almost every attack roll I make so that I can hit with Chaos orb and so I can trigger that sweet chaos table!
Functionally, I gain advantage on almost every attack and only have a random thing happen 5% of the time. HUGE upside
@@dwpetrakDoes it work like that though? The description says after you use Tides Of Chaos you get to roll on the wild magic table directly, no rolling d20s before
@@iko9584 I was about to explain why it works that way, but then I read the sections (for like the 20th time) and I think you're right and my DM and I have been playing it wrong for 7 levels now...

The path of wild magic barbarian helps to capture I feel a version of this concept that feels more balanced and less polarising, where all the effects are positive so it changes the dynamic more to adapting on the fly each fight to which abilities you have, however the wild magic sorcerer because of this still gets to be the stupidest most insane subclass in the game and for fun factor I wouldn't have it any other way.
Can't wait to see the Clockwork Soul sorcerer take. Metamagic in combination with a LV1 ability to cancel advantage/disadvantage AND additional spells that can be swapped natively is so customizable.

57-58 sounds like the worst number to roll in the middle of a forest, everything burst into flames and you weren’t even in control of it.
my current DM mentioned wild magic when we were talking about making characters, and she sold me on wild magic because of the chaos, Cherry the Chaotic, is delightful to play!

Literally had a fairy wild magic soucer cast macgic missle then manage to roll to cast magic missle at 5th level. And just wiping a group of bandits while at low HP, due to the rest of the party focusing on one side of the bandit camp after they agreed to split up and attack from both sides.

The roleplay potentional is just so fantastic. I can't wait to roll something like "ethereal music", and without telling anyone about it I just start some creepy sound playlist on my phone and go on about my day until someone asks what the fuck is going on. "Oh, that? Yeah I don't know either but I haven't blown up myself or any of you guys, so I'll take it as a win"

In our campaign... my half orc sorcerer has a chaosweaver dagger that amplifies his wild magic, and adds a new table. Every time I cast with it equipped, or throw the thing (it will recall itself on the same turn) it procs a wild magic surge chance that's literally a coin flip. I get them constantly.
DM: "Well, it seems you all barely survived that encounter, and as you search the surrounding treasure you find a strange magical artifact. It needs to be identified."
Wild Magic Sorcerer: "Um, I cast Identify?"
Party: "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"
Wild Magic Sorcerer: *Grins and nods* "I cast Identify."
DM: "Ok... Roll a D100"
Wild Magic Sorcerer: "Um, 13?"
Dm: "You cast Confusion, centered on yourself. Since everyone is within 10ft of the sorcerer... the entire party is now confused... as you try to figure out what this magical artifact is."
Ironically, that is indeed what I rolled while typing this... and it is surprisingly fitting. xD

I hate having to roll a D20 and have 19 ways to NOT Wild Surge.
The older edition had "Reckless Dweomer" as a L1 spell, "Name a spell you could possibly cast (known by you or not) and use it as the base spell on the Wild Surge Table."
I've always joked that I was an "Agent of Chaos". Now I can be!!!
Don't sound half bad if you live long enough to wish you could control your magic...I like the idea of low level casters having a chance at that table while learning.

Here an idea you can restore some of your sorcery points but you have to roll on the wild magic table as many time as many sorcery points you want to restore.

Alas, Wild Magic Sorcerers are so undercooked as a subclass (unless they roll a 7/8). You still want to ultimately be able to play a reliable-enough caster character for a whole campaign and there just aren't enough features to give the subclass a real identity / feature basis beyond "random bullshit go", which unfortunately is actually not that well integrated either.
Rolling a d20 after each leveled spell to determined whether an effect occurs is a cool idea, but the fact that it only ever procs 5% of the time already means right off the bat that your main gimmick will barely ever happen. Extend the range, and make something good happen at 20, such as wild magic triggering, except you can choose the previous or next effect on the wild magic table instead of the one you rolled. For example, you roll a 7/8, you can instead get the effect from 5/6 or 9/10. Boom, it procs twice as often and is still random, but not random enough to be a detriment. 20s are awesome, so you want awesome effects to happen at 20.
Tides of Chaos is a pretty good ability that plays into the theme. Recharging after each surge is perfect and encourages frequent rolling, which brings me to the next ability this sorcerer should have: Some kind of way to intentionally force a magic surge limited amounts per day. This may be a little strong with Tides of Chaos recharging all the time, but advantage on one d20 roll isn't that crazy really especially if you take a risk by means of gambling lol

- And it gives a SINGLE D4 bonus/penalty which you can't even use on YOURSELF
This is ass. Make it cost 1 sorcery point and make the die a d6. Boom, much better already. Cherry on top: Make it usable without spending a sorcery point at all, but when you do so, your next d20 roll to determine whether a wild surge happens will proc at not just a 1 and 20, but 1-4 (using normal effect, 20 is unchanged.)
As for the rest, I am feeling to lazy to come up with something
Tides of chaos can also proc the wild magic table on DM demand after you’ve used the effect and until you regain it every time you cast a leveled spell, this will likely not happen since the DM likely haven’t put this ability to memory unless a lot of wild magic sorcerer has been played with him before.

At least 11th level Horizon is actually really good, but BEFORE 11th level they are actually worse than Hunter

Dread Ambusher: Your first turn in Combat
Planar Warrior and Slayers Prey: Needs to be in specific Range(30 feet for Planar, 60 for Slayers), cost Bonus Action instead of being part of attack action LIKE EVERY OTHER RANGER SUBCLASS
Theres a reason why people hate Hunters Mark and pick Favored Foe instead, you KNOW Favored Foe will allways be active when you land a Hit, Hunters Mark is a gamble if the attack hits or not
I kinda wish they'd pushed the whole barely controlled magic thing onto all sorc subclasses and given them each a 1d20 table with thematically appropriate results to further differentiate them.

Easily the best subclass, has to be played as a tiefling tho for best mid max
wild magic is great and would probably be 5x more acceptable if you replaced the fireball with another affect, mostly because at levels one and two, you have a slight chance of just ending the campaign. If that was switched then you'd only be able to hurt and hopefully not kill your party but keep all the randomness (I mention this because I've never met a GM who would allow wild magic)
another issue imo is when GMs replace the wild magic chart, which is largely balanced on a razor's fucking edge on raw statistics alone, I prefer the wild table from BG3 for this reason

What are the best races to choose for playing a Wild Magic Sorcerer?
Most importantly would be having a high charisma modifier, so either choose a race that gives you one or let's you choose. Since most sorcerers play at a pretty long range, flight is a decent ability to pick up too but not necessary (effectiveness can vary al lot depending on location and enemies).
Aarakocra would be good for flight since you can choose your ability score increases and get a spell.
Owlins are the same but get a stealth proficiency instead of a spell
Levistus or Glasya Tieflings are decent for the stats and extra cantrip.
Same with fairies
Same with duergar, +some defensive stuff
Same with githyanki
Same with YuanTi, +magic resistance
Same with Hexblood (though that's a lineage)
Autognomes are good for the AC since you dont have any armor proficiencies and also have a good stat bonus
Harengon also have a good stat bonus + several helpful abilities, including rabbit hop for getting away from an enemy without provoking an opportunity attack
There are obviously other good races, these are just the ones I immediately thought of. The only thing I would recommend for sure is having high charisma (spell casting modifier), Dexterity (for AC), and constitution (for concentration saves)
