So sorry this video is a day late. I haven't been feeling well lately and it got me behind. Hopefully I'll be feeling much better next week. Thanks all, love ya!
6:18 I would like to emphasize that there is NO LIMIT on how many hounds you can summon(well other than the number of sorcery points of course but you can just convert your spell slots to points). That means you can summon a hound every turn with a bonus action. Imagine how terrifying it would be face a creature that is constantly summoning hellish creatures who's only job is *"Frick you in particular"* and it is getting exponentially difficult to defeat him every turn
@@DParkerNunya twin spell always worked on cantrips and magical actions that were not considered spells, the only limitation explictly gave to it was that the action had to use à sorcery point for twinspell to apply, this is why sorclock has always been so strong

The cap stone for sorcerer’s is pretty weak. I let my players used the following Sorcerer feature tweaks: Sorcerous Restoration- Starting at 2nd level, you regain sorcery points equal to your proficiency bonus when ever you finish a short rest. Power creep is definitely a factor, but I think after Tasha's, every previous sorcerer subclass should get their expanded spell list homebrewed in. Including the ability to swap those on level-ups, with some restrictions to class spell list and school of magic. Give Shadow Magic sorcerer some cool illusion and necromancy spells, but include Summon Shadowspawn because DUH.
I've always combined Shadow Sorcerers with Hexblades because combining Hound of Ill Omen with the Spectre the Hexblade can create on killing a target has a nice spooky shadow summoner feel. Not to mention if you also drop a Shadowspawn on the field.
my favorite edgelord combo idea for the class is popping off by combining the umbral form with the 6th level spell investiture of fire , and then using metamagic to transmute the investiture damage to lightning. It just looks edgy and I kinda love it. heck youcombine that with being a assimar of any variety and it just gets edgier , cause you either generate fear, can fly, or your even more of a walking hazard.
While the abilities are "Goth" there's no reason for your character to be. A bright cheerful whimsical Shadow Sorcerer can be fun, as well as a Studio Ghibli style innocent. "Hi, I'm Kiki the Shadow Sorcerer.."
Shadow Magic is one of my favorite Sorcerer subclasses. And I really hope that they go back and give older Sorcerer subclasses the same treatment as they did with the Aberrant Mind and Clockwork Soul.
I'm gonna make the sweetest most adorable babygirl character who only uses regular sorcerer spells _until it's combat time,_ when they summon the horrific goth dog
I love the idea of the sorcerer. Closest thing to playing as a magical creature sinse you *are* magic, the thing wizards and artificers study, clerics druids and paladins are gifted with you just are.
I just played a one shot using a shadow sorcerer and while researching the subclass was looking through your channel seeing if you had posted about it, but of course you post about it AFTER i do the one shot lol
I'm really sick right now So i ws pleasantly surprised when I saw you in my subscription feed, it really Brightened up my day so Keep up the amazing work my friend. And thank you for the momentary distraction from the feeling of death.
YES I AM! A few years ago, I let my friend use my level 17 Shadow Sorcerous/3 Fiend Warlock as a mini boss for nine level 10 PCs. Using the combination of Hound of Ill Omen, Shadow Walk, Eldritch Blast from up to 300 feet away, and a few other tricks, my character nearly TPK'd the group.
This probably not the right video to say this in but I am enjoying your entire series. It’s really opening my eyes to classes I wouldn’t normally be interested in. I am really enjoying your obvious passion and love for dnd. The videos have helped me take small breaks throughout the day to relax. So thank you! Know your work is appreciated and what you are doing is bring me a bit of joy and happiness.
As regarding my previous post. You should also consider Sorcerers with a close tie to either Shar, Raven Queen or other deity or powerful entity. Even bloodlines tied to the Domains of Dread. Maybe even a Crow inspired Sorcerer or Warlock. Focusing on the Goth and EMO aspect does limit you.
Was my first subclass and I quiet enjoyed it. Especially specializing in illusions and necromancy. Could never quite tell what was real and what wasn't with my guy.
My favorite fix for the Level 20 power cap of the Sorcerer is to reduce the cost of your MM by 1 point. Making it so a ton of them are just free to use assuming you took the ones that cost just 1 sorcerer point.
If I was going for a Shadow Sorcerer, my inspiration would be Jackie from The Darkness comic series. I would lean more heavily on the Shadowfell theme. Animating shadows, summoning, controlling and banishing shadowfell creatures. Making weapons and armor out of shadowstuff. And also spells such as Fear, Emotion: Hopelessness and Sadness. And look at 3rd party sources for Shadow themed spells.
Friendly reminder that you can convert spell slots into sorcery points Lvl 2 slot = 2 sorcery points Darkness is a lvl 2 spell You can just keep converting your slots to points and keep creating see through darkness
I wanted to play a sorcerer next time I got to play D&D, but I wasn’t sure about which subclass or backstory, but learning of this subclass has given me some ideas.
Not entirely related to the actual Shadow Sorcerer part of the video, but I remember when I commented on one of your first videos, I said you were gonna get big soon and compared you to Pointy Hat a bit. Someone followed up with ‘Yeah, but at least YMBA doesn’t make anything political’ and I hope that guy is annoyed seeing this video.
I have a echo knight fighter/shadow sorcerer fairy. And I flavor familiars as bugs, and I can already imagine a hell hound being flavored as a hell spider just coming at someone.
I'm playing a Tabaxi Shadow Sorcerer in a campaign right now who was inspired by the Shadowman from the Princess and the Frog. I flavored it that he and his brother were cursed so now his brother is his shadow, and the source of his power. When i get the Hound of Ill Omen its going to be him unleashing his brother as a beast
I used to not care about Shadow Sorcs but then I saw Arabella become one in BG3 so I decided to see what's it about. She's one of the few sorcs not born with magic, but was exposed to it and gained it
Also the absolute fun of casting darkness you can see through on an object you can stow or equip as a free action and just turn the dark on and off is... glorious
So something that was not brought up; in this subclass, you can spend Sorcery Points to make magical darkness that you can just see through, something only a warlock can do. My brother and I, him the Shadow Sorc and me a Warlock with the improved darkvision, used this to basically force everyone to play battleship- but we could see both sides.
I’m playing a reborn shadow sorcerer they were originally meant to be a death cleric but shadow sorcerer works better as their magic comes from their existence rather than a god
I have always wanted to mix warlock with shadow sorcerer, personally. It just seems like a strong combo, taking a 2-3 level dip into warlock and having 17-18 levels in shadow sorcerer :) but I'm still unsure which warlock is best-suited :3
Depends on how you want to play, but mechanically, Hexblade has So Many Benefits at just Level 1, one of the biggest being you get proficiency with medium armor, something Charisma casters basically Never get access to. Plus you also get Eldritch Blast, best cantrip in the game and also allows you to stay the hell back (which is V important for squishy casters). You’ll also get access to 2 Eldritch Invocations, which kind of act as like feats and there are dozens to choose from. Another good combo is Shadow Sorcerer and Undead Warlock. A single level dip into Undead Warlock gets you Form of Dread, which gives you a few different buffs, but also temporary hit-points, which is always nice to have. Personally I believe the Hexblade mechanically is better bc of access to medium armor, Hexblade’s Curse, and better pact magic spells (in my opinion). But both subclasses blend lovely with a Shadow Sorcerer.
I love the thematic of the Shadow Sorcerer, sorc is my favorite class, but It looks like the Undead Warlock kinda does the job better? I havent tried it yet tho, the shadow transformation sounds really fun, I wish there was a similar ability earlier to actually try it. Nice video!
Yeah! Its interesting and kinda what I was alluding to at the end with the power creep stuff. Wotc kinda made the same sorcerer 3 times? Which a little funny.I do however think the hound is so good its pretty much saves this class and makes it good enough to stand on its own.
@@youmightbeadnd The hound is definetilly a great feature, it makes save spells way better, tho I gotta say, summoning is cool, but flavor wise I would ratter have like a necrotic transformation that had the same effect as the hound instead hehe
Depends on the spell. The only rule is that if you cast a bonus action spell you can't cast a second spell as an action unless it's a cantrip. Meaning something like action surge can allow you to cast 2 action spells in one turn, or quickened spell let's you cast fireball with a bonus action and firebolt with your action.
