I would be classing the G5 as a G3 replacement, its a good solid cameras but the G4 gave a better quality of image from the ones we have tested, but both are solid and the G5 Price is great
Thanks for the video and remark that G5 bullet currently will not work on UDM Pro. My G5 would be delivered today but after a quick mail to Ubiquiti they gave me the option to keep the box closed to extend refund period while waiting for the OS 3 update on UDM Pro or refuse the delivery. In both cases I would receive full refund for product and shipping. Great service from Ubiquiti!
Something to note about high frame rate mode (at least with the G4 Pro and I presume the G4 Bullet) is when you enable it, you are reducing your resolution in exchange for the higher frame rate.

So I bought the G5 dome and bullet in early access thinking they are better than the G4. I’m still building out my business and haven’t even tried them yet, looking at your video, I’m a little disappointed in the sound and even the video looks slightly blurry compared to the G4. I’ll be testing everything when I get setup in the next month, but I’m glad I only bought 1 of each. Mainly I’m going to use the g4 domes around the business and the flex in my office. Great video nonetheless, thank you for the insightful videos.
Thanks for all the videos you put out. One request for Camera Testing would be fast motion (both towards the camera and perpendicularly) to see which camera are still able to display a recognizable face (in day and night settings). Thanks!
Why? The G4s are clearly better in just about every way. The only reason to go G5 would be price difference (cheaper) but you already own the G4 so why woul dyou swap?
They threw out the stuff not many people used which is the IR addon and 1Gbps ETH port. Cut the cost in the process and made the camera cheaper and more affordable. Very nice UI. IR extender is obsolete product IMO. Way too expensive and doesn't do much. Indirect lighting solution is a better option, be it infrared or led floodlight.
Solid review, I recently switched over my entire network over to unifi gear sans cameras and I knew the G4 bullet was going to be good but I dislike the cheap plastic feel of the G5.
Right? G5 daylight view had the snow banks blown out, G4 retained detail. Audio quality was better on the G4 I think or at least more sensitive, and then the night vision on facial details was way better on the G4. Nothing here sold me on the G5's.
I can confirm, just got my 2 G5 bullets GA adopted in just fine no issues on a udm pro. My G5 pro EA did not but to be expected until 3.0 drops. On all latest EA firmware.
In this video, G5 has a sierous motion blur issue in the night vision, just notice the blurry characters on the signboard, compared to G4. I don't see any reason the Ubiquiti claims G5 having a better night vision.
The G4 seemed waaaay crisper in the night vision and much louder with the audio. Sucks that you need UI 3.0 for the G5. Glad I didn't go buy any since UI is still dragging their feed upgrading the UDM Pro. *sigh*
FYI, the G5 bullet camera will not power up with a Grandstream switch, not sure if this would include other non Unifi switches. I swapped it out with a G3 Flex and a Sangoma phone to troubleshoot whether it might be a misconfiguration of a port settings or if they would power up and get an IP address without issue. Both the Flex and phone power up and connect fine, the G5 Bullet just boot loops. I replaced my USW-16-POE with the Grandstream when it died 1 month out of warranty. I tried the G5 with an Old USW-8-60 I had laying around and it powered up just fine so it's not the camera.
i would like to see a test of the AI Theta Cameras once they are out. They look really promising when you want to be a little more discreet on surveillance cams.
Ok well I was using a unvr pro that has Unifi 3.0 if you look on the Ubiquiti wek site under the camera it says *This version requires you to have UniFi OS version 3.0 and later, please note FW 3.0 is currently not available for UDM-Pro.
Night vision is terrible on mine, don't know why they only went with two emitters. I now have it in a well lit area, so price/performance wise it works okay in that location. My first one broke, an IR switching problem, then it just died, Unifi replaced it very quickly.
Some people are saying it’s working with the UDM pro. I advised that it didn’t work due to this statement direct from the Ubiquiti website *This version requires you to have UniFi OS version 3.0 and later, please note FW 3.0 is currently not available for UDM-Pro. Hi I am looking for Installing Security Camera for my Home. Looking for G4 Bullet as option - By any chance do you know if these can be used for two way audio Communication ? and also same with G4 Pro
Why does UDM Pro STILL not have 3.0? I recall reading about that some time back... back then thought any day it would get it. WTF is taking so long? UDM Pro and UDM Pro SE are nearly same hardware.. it makes no sense.
They should have called these G4.5 as they seem to only have minor improvements, and if you look at the internal specs, they use more RAM but lower tier CPU's. I wonder what the reasoning for this is. I'm much more impressed with the new G5 flex over the G3. THe other thing I would like to see is PTZ versions of the flex, or a much smaller version of their current PTZ cam.
If I had to guess, with the G5 being cheaper than the G4 they are just trying to create a bit more feature separation between the "standard G5 bullet" and the "G5 Pro". The G4 was too expensive for an entry level, but did not have the features of a pro, so it didn't fit well in the lineup.
At this point I'm feeling pretty frustrated as a UDM Pro user being left out of Unifi OS 3.0. Trying to support deployments at multiple sites and being left out of the latest features is annoying.
