- After the long winter spring is finally among us. We sow seeds indoors, tackle laundry and check on our overwintered bees for the first time this year. Between the snowy showers and ever changing skies, we eagerly await summer and the midnight sun.

Am I the only one itching for simple living Alaska garden tour 2021?!?Come on spring and summer! Good luck from Texas!
I am super excited too. I love the gardening and canning videos.
Is watching Garland TX n needs more
Hi, a little tip to jumpstart your growing season in the tunnel : water it. Without water, soil life isn't degrading your organic matter, so you lose a few weeks until they start doing it after the first watering. In warmer climate like France, we water tunnels that have permanent mulch all winter long, so that worms and mushrooms will create that much needed humus even in winter. Without water, they just leave.
The camera work and editing in this episode are exquisite. Your episodes have become such a wonderful marriage of thoughtful photography and honest, engaging education. You both radiate joy, grit, humor, and love. Thank you for your videos!
Well said.
OMG! Thank you so much for mentioning my Mushroom Kit!!! Please enjoy and know I will be here for tech. support if needed.
Wait until you plant the Shaggy Mane out in the gardens...it's is coming your way!
Eric, here's a project for you: Build a box to elevate the washer, with a lip around the top to keep it contained when it vibrates, add wheels for easy mobility & leave one side open to store cleaning supplies. That would make laundry day so much easier.
I know from reading through the comments that others have said the same, but I must say it again, y'all do amazing videos. I love the sounds of the work, the farm and the beauty of your land. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Keep up the great work
The view of the snow falling from the Sky is Beautiful.
Yes it is. I've never lived anywhere it snows. The flakes seemed HUGE in this - very beautiful! X
The music. The snow. The trees. Magical❤️
I always click on your videos when I need a distraction and it works perfectly. The music, the scenery, you guys work hard to create such gorgeous content for us and it shows. Thank you!
I live in an apartment with no laundry hook ups, but after years of living in Asia. This is what they use over there. I thought one of those would be perfect, starting looking around and found one on Amazon for under a $100. Got that 3 years ago and it still works and does a great job. Picked up a 115v dryer and now I'm set. For all of you living in an apt, this is the way to go.
Where in Asia
@@bradpolmateer4266 2 years in Busan and 9 years in Bangkok.
@@1307scooter sweet I’m jealous
Wow only $100? How well does it do with bulkier items?
@@chrisz.9974 You have to go to the laundromat for the big things.
Bandit's "sit" was perfect. So glad to see Bo and Kitty. You guys have three beautiful companions. Another great video - thanks. Bo, Bandit, Kitty, chickens, bees, caterpillar, birds and a gorgeous owl. You guys live in an animal heaven.
You are the ONLY UA-cam channel I watch anymore. So so so so so wonderful and stunning and calming! I’m obsessed!!!
@Abbie Landry, I am so excited when I see they drop a new episode even during my work hours I take a break.
Ditto!!
They really do have a great channel
I loved the quietness. No music, no overly loud narrating. Just showing the simple life. Lovely 💕
27:07 A Northern saw-whet owl, these are so tiny and cute
Zaatar is actually a Middle Eastern mix made of oregano, sumac and sesamee seeds .. some people add other things but that is the base mix. It's used primarily on "fatayir" which is a baked flat dough .. you add oil to the zaatar and spread it on the dough and bake - pizza like. In recent years I've seen it used more and more as an "exotic" spice mix in cooking. Anyway, your breakfasts always look so delicious and hearty.
I'd swap that hinge for the greenhouse door to the inside :)
It's amazing how well you two have adjusted to off grid Alaskan life.
The owl was beautiful! Love your addition of the music in your edits. It brings you into the moment and I love it!
As simple as they might look, those shots of nature around (B-roll) with that soft and well chosen music on it are just making miracle. It's so relaxing and good even by watching them through here.
Thank you very much. I really enjoy it.
The slow motion and music was amazing!
I like this video layout. It was very well spaced. I prefer the non quiet. But, I do realize a lot of people like the scenery with time to take it in. This one was perfect. On the other hand... the clip going to the Bhive Bo wasn’t leaving mom behind just for her camera shot... them dogs have great personalities, the cat too.
Hi, that what is called Zatar is an Arabic called Zaatar Za3tar زعتر you can aslo put some in plate and with oliven oil and eat it with bread or you can put it on bread and gril it on your stove, enjoy ;)
Can you please do a sit down get to know you? I’d love to hear about your journey with adapting to life in Alaska and how you make it all work! Love your channel!
There are only two seasons up in Alaska... winter and July!
Sounds like where I live too 😂😂 we joke we get one day of summer!
I was lucky to holiday in Alastair a few years ago one September ( I'm from the UK ) its beautiful had some glorious warm days and some drizzley days bit like here lol
Why would anyone downvote this channel? It's so wholesome, educational, entertaining, loving, funny, etc. They're just living life.
I love that you don't include music when you're working. The natural sounds are much nicer ❤️
Eric makes “fringe eggs” like my dad used to make. He liked that crispy around the edges and he called it “fringe”. Always looks so good when Eric makes them and brings back good memories to me!
Watching the snow fall looks so peaceful. What a beautiful life you are showing.
Your filming and editing has grown exponentially. I always look forward to your videos. Bringing us along on and allow us a view into your lives is very much appreciated. Thank you!
I have so much respect for you both as you work so hard on your land , and I get very excited to see a new video, and I even watched your your videos twice , thank you for letting us into your life
The cinematography was exquisite this episode!
They get better and better with every episode. There are you tubers out there that rival tv
Zatar is a spice mixture used in Middle Eastern cooking....
Excellent- pictures i can't say- but have seen
They always are, in deed..
You beat me to this comment. I especially loved the caterpillar and the green eyes of that cat.
There's just something about watching newborn plants that is so heartwarmingly special. Thank you for sharing with us.
This was magical, best yet.
Soooo happy that your beez have made it through the Winter. Take care Eric & Arielle.
These guys make my day!!!! So dedicated & hard working!!! Love you guys!!!! Thanks for sharing your lovely life with us!!!! ❤️❤️
I've said it before but it bares repeating , whatever that one camera that you use for those outside , slightly slowed down scenes is frick'n awesome ! Like Hollywood grade ! I could watch hours of that .
Although the last several months have been filled with ups and downs, your videos provides me with inspiration to move forward.
zaatar p[ronounced zaaa tar is a mix of wild thyme oregano and margerom with sesmame and sumac, its used traditionallly for breakfast flatbread, mix with olivce olive to form a paste and spread on raw dough then bake. great as a rub or seasoning aswell its from lebanon syria and jordan, love you guys
Gday from Australia 👍
Big👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏to the one that puts the music with all the videos of beautiful nature. So creative! Thank you!!👏👏👏❤️
Hope you are not having troubles with the flooding. Stay well.
You guys seems like such good company for each other. Lovely to see such a well matched couple
There's those good boys !!! Good to see 'em able to stretch their legs outside. Happy chickens, scratching away at the soil too. Nice to see the hives did ok. Good meals, as always too. Spring is nearly here !!
The visual storytelling keeps improving. These videos have such great quality and amazing content. I can’t wait to see what you guys have planned for the summer!
So glad the bees are alive! Snow is still on the ground and falling from the skies... gosh, it's gorgeous there.
Can't get enough of your lovely videos! Thank you so much for sharing bits and pieces of your life in Alaska 💕
I just love watching your videos.
i saw a trick that may be helpful when chopping wood ... put a belt or strap around the log it hold it together in one bundle no picking up peices each time
y'all have worked out ways around your challenges. I love the cooking segments. Good luck on this growing season. Thank you both for these videos.
Zaatar is middle Eastern spices
za'atar is generally a combination of dried oregano, thyme, and/or marjoram (woodsy and floral), with sumac (tangy and etc.
Nothing better than srarting off with good kindlin.. Goin to be a warm video
I just love watching you all cook. Your food always looks so delicious. Really loved the beginning of this video. The shots of snow falling was so beautiful. So excited to see that you are getting ready for Spring!
Thank you, Arielle and Eric, for taking us along with you. I’m thrilled for you and your hives!
Another excellent episode from my two favorite people. Very calming and peaceful. Thanks guys for sharing the peek into your life as the snow starts to melt and the garden prep begins!
The little twin tub washing machine reminds me of my first washing machine here in Hungary. My washing was by hand, in a big, white dish, I also bathed in for 3 or so months. Then I bought the little machine which did a mighty job for 4 years...until I gave it to a family, and bought a front loading washing machine. Ahh, bliss.
Nice to see the cat again!
Your place is sure home! The chickens, the garden,& outbuildings! And inside the cabin is so homey, cozy & fixed so nice! All the canning & preserving & freezing food!!
Za'atar usually refers to a spice mix. It typically has sumac, thyme, oregano, and savory.
Sap is just about to start flowing on the birch trees up here. I'm surprised you haven't tapped any trees. I grew up in Vermont and my parents always made maple syrup so I had to try it up here. Birch syrup is good but a bit more of an "acquired taste". The sap is excellent to drink without even boiling also.
Woo hoo! So happy when you post a new video. Once again, I feel Bo is my kindred spirit!
Hii..love love yourls content..everything about it..zaatar is a middle eastern spice..most commonly used as a base for breads..usually mixed with olive oil..
I don't know what it is about the sound of chopping wood that's so satisfying!!! Hearing the wood crack and split 🪓
I'm always impressed with how well your knives cut. Have you talked about favorite knives for cooking and prepping food?
Yes it is!
Just like everyone else in the comments,,We are 55-62 and desire land and the simple life ! We learn so much from you guys !
Amazing Video. Thank you
Loved the video, obviously the pets, bees and the wild life stole the show! We had a lovely cat like pepper his name was Percy. We had just lost our old cat Pip and my youngest son was devastated. Unbeknown to him, my sister who was over from Canada on a visit arranged for him to have a kitten, (when he was old enough to leave it's mother.) The owner put a ribbon 🎀 on him he was so tiny he sat on the palm of my hand. I can still see my son's face when he first saw his new pet. My husband loves your dogs but has a soft spot for Bo. All the best keep safe.
Love you two kids, stay safe and happy
I am glad to see your bees are doing so well.....the music you select for each video is very nice and enjoyable....thanks for your hard work in preparing these videos!
Your seedlings are doing really well and your use of the peat based mix is what we used in the greenhouse i worked in for thirty years. We grew over 100,000 flats every spring. To many people use a really dense heavy mix. Seedlings need an airy soil mix. This gives you really healthy roots. Spring is on its way. Success and stay safe.
Great to see spring is around the corner. Love the music you played at the last. The Fight. Thank you guys! Take care!
I could watch you guys everyday, you are the ideal couple, so much respect and love for each other. Lx
Love everything about your channel.
Master chefs! Videography, photography,
music, just to name a few!
I love your washing machine!
You two are amazing!
My husband and I love your videos, we always look forward to watching your adventures and hearing your insight! Sending love and respect from down south in Georgia. (P.S. - you've inspired me to try making my own sourdough starter!)
Love watching your videos
My friend is Palestinian and he introduced me to zaatar, they use olive oil and dry spice on flatbread and its so good.
a message for the ones who dislike this video:
I understand you. It hurts to know that you are not able to live this kind of live, not everyone can. So, please, enjoy and I stop the hate. I am just happy watching this guys living their live. Just watch and enjoy
and also, the bees are alive :)
People dislike for the algorithm as well.
I had an older version of that washing machine from the 70's when my husband and I lived off grid in Washington State. I too loved it, especially the wringer. The clothes barely had any water left in them at all. We used water off our wood stove to fill it and I would drink cup after cup of green tea while I did the wash since the water was hot and available.
I was the one that commented on washing clothes by hand and using a wringer mop bucket on your washing machine vid a few months back but I have since bought one of those Costway machines on Amazon and I just LOVE IT! I did several loads today in my mini washer as well. I just smile as I use it as it makes me so happy. Don't forget the plastic topper in the spinner...don't want anything to fly out!! Have you seen the Panda dryer? It's like an inflatable balloon that clothes hang off of and dry out. It's on a tripod and there's, in basic terms, a big hair dryer that blows into the "balloon" and traps the hot air around the hanging clothes. Looks pretty cool. I'd buy it but I'm in the desert of AZ and it's upwards of 98F already so my clothes dry quickly anyhow.
Zaatar is really good heavily sprinkled on flat bread then wrap it around some fresh veggies with thick garlic yogurt
Amazing what comes from all of those small seeds! Full of design and genetic information producing plants and fruit!
So perfect for Easter, He has risen and it shows in all this beauty and perfect cinematography Thank You for this video.. Would like to see a video with beautiful music and no talking just natures' beauty of Alaska........... so peaceful
Your videos are better than TV!!!
You guys are so hardworking! What do you do for fun? When you’re out at the cabin you do puzzles or play Parcheesi. What do you do at your main house to relax? And do you ever sit down & eat? Also, have you been able to harvest honey from your hives yet?
Spring is in the air and the optimism abounds. Starting gardens has a way of making you forget about the cold winter.
Another amazing video- the photography is absolutely amazing & beautiful Guys. I can't wait for your Spring/Summer to come for you so you can be outdoors growing beautiful vegetables- your chickens & dogs will just revel in it. Cheers Denise - Australia
The snow and music 👌🏼 was magical.
🇹🇳🇹🇳🇹🇳
Zaatar is one of our favourite spices. It goes with bread, and dates. It's so healthy too.
I am really excited it's time to start gardening again and I am looking forward to all of the lessons learned from the season before be put into the new plantings, There's always something to learn about or discover (even the small stuff) The bee's 👍 I forgot about them 😨 ... Wishing you a Happy and Bountiful growing season this year, 💟 watching and learning along the way, Thank you for sharing your journey.
the snowfall is so therapeutic to watch :) love watching your videos :)
Love the video!! Thanks for the meatball idea with the potato leek soup. We have several jars of potato leek soup left and this will help "tasted" up the soup in the coming weeks. Thanks again for the idea!!
I was so happy to see the bees are doing well so far. Not long to go now! I was remembering your move to Alaska when you had shorts on, and it was so cold! Now I see you in the dead of winter in shorts on many times. You sure have gotten use to low temps. since living there. A friend of mine did a log and drilled holes in it. Put plugs I believe shitake Mushroom plugs in it, and set it by a creek on their property. It's amazing how many they get off it. You can also get the log kit for $30.00 That stays outside all year.
Love you guys videos. I really have to thank you very much because i watched the video on the mini washer and spin dryer and i purchase 1 and i love it. I live in NY and corona is bad here.
The way you live is wonderful. It is surprising how many things you can do in this small cabin. Really hard work. 🥰
Just a suggestion, if you are not already doing this try canning potatoes! They are amazing to eat, just open jar and drain, then fry them up or add to soup. We also make alfalfa sprouts all winter! So good for you! We are thinking of trying mushrooms as it’s very humid here in southern Ontario! Love your channel. Thanks! Nancy from Canada
I am consistently amazed at your camera work. You have a happy talent for showing the beauty in things that might be considered mundane.
I always get all excited when you get ready to eat . To see how the food tastes and then you cut to another scene always ?? I about fall out of my chair in disappointment. Because I would like to see you try your food. Everyone wants to see your faces on how good it is.
Beautiful! The guitars, owl and birds were awesome!
Arielle, you may wish to acquire transparent seed tray covers for your seed pots. The covers substantially reduce daily soil moisture loss and creates a temperature micro-environment for the virginly germinated plants. The covers are about 2" deep, giving the plants 2" growth height room before having to permanently having to no longer cover the seed tray.
An idea for you two. Obtain some hardwood dowels, pressure cook them (to sterilize) add them to your lions mane kit. Once the dowels turn white, drill a hole in a dead or cut hardwood tree (if you have hardwood up there??) and inoculate that log with a dowel every 3 inches in staggered rows. I’ve done it with shiitake and it works well.
Glad to see that the bee's are doing well
Plants are sprouting and looking good. Busy time ahead of course you both stay busy all year long. More good looking meals on the table
I'm always so happy to see a new video from you - thank you so much for sharing your wonderful day/life with us!!
