My preschool class will be planting bucket gardens tomorrow. In a five gallon bucket we plant a potato in the middle then plant onion sets around the circumference and finally put a few radish seeds on top. Your video was timed perfectly. The children will watch you garden during rest and relax time then plant their own gardens to tend and enjoy over the summer. Thank you for your honest and direct presentations . p.s. The children always applaud Eric when he fells a tree!

After being laid up with multiple surgery's, I'm slowly working myself back into my raised bedsc gardens. In my absence, the whole garden died off and this year is not only restoration for me, but our garden. The one thing missing, was your show. So hot in the Carolina's d this week, so we're inside drinking some ice tea and learning from you'r shows. You and your husband are so down to earth and just nice folks to visit with!. My garden is on the mend and so am I. Have a great day!

Plant comfrey on the outside edge of the veg garden to create a hardy rhizome barrier against forest growth. The foliage is also incredible food for the chickens, or mulch for your plants, and the flowers are great forage for your bees.

You know city folk take for granted what it takes for us to have food farm to the table. I remember back in the 60s everyone had large gardens in our yards. We have a small hobby garden. I have learned so much from use to increase our yield. We grow and love lots of potatoes as well. Retired with health issues living vicariously through others like your selves. The chainsaw mills are great and you put the battle kill to good use.

Wow!! Not like you didn't have your garden work cut out for you. Then, the asparagus! That's why y'all have such a great big yield. ABUNDANT!!! Such great care with the ground, compost, top soil, Nitrogen, Bone Meal, Blood Meal, straw...
And the beat goes on! The green salsa looked delicious & we could tell y'all loved it! Plenty of 'onyuns' ("Deep South Bama With Mr. Tom")
Basil plants are just beautiful! You can tell they're going to taste great!! Much hard work but your young & it's delightful to watch your lives working out on your homestead. This summer is going to be great on the water to the other place! God bless you all. (He is!!) 🙏❤🙏🤗👵

You could build a log cabin addition on to the back of your cabin. Then frame and insulate and put 2x 8 or 10 slab's on the walls ( inside). Log flooring that is squared 6x6 or 8x8's. Keeping the door shut between it and the main room it may stay cool enough for a "root cellar" but not cold enough to freeze. Just an idea. Basil looks great, well everything is looking great already. Can't plant here in northern MI till next week. And our weather has been up and down and all over the place. Thanks for sharing. God bless

I could watch your videos all day, I just love them ! Celery tuber is actually the part of the celery plant that we traditionally eat most in Germany. You can do a lot of things with them : together with a carrot, some leek and parsley it goes in any broth and many soups, you can rasp them in salads together with carrots and apples, boil them and then fry the slices after turning them in egg and breadcrumbs like a Schnitzel, prepare them like french fries and so on.
I can imagine that it's hard to grow asparagus in the Alaska climate. Even here where the season usually starts in early April we are late because of the cold spring this year and Asparagus is still too expensive ( in Germany we harvest the white Asparagus before it sticks its head out of the ground). So good luck with your gently groomed plants !

Your planting videos are my second most favorite. My most favorite is the Harvest and watching you pull up the bounty of your efforts! Well, I love them all actually, but wanted to play with your loving to dig the potatoes up comment...
Potatoes - I respect your method of doing what works, year after year. Why fix it if it ain't broke. However - if you can afford the space, time and effort, you might consider planting (experimenting with) a couple of feet-length of cut spuds. To see if it would work for you there. Then compare your investment to yield.
But, I am already excited the for the cornucopia that's coming your way from your beautiful garden!

I was raised in the Delta on great egg plants. I made baked plain, baked stuffed, egg plant parmegiano, egg plant stew with yellow squash, tomatoes, onions, garlic and a big hunk of fresh bread for dipping. I also made them into patties like burgers, and their pulp is great for baking fresh stuffed tomatoes with fresh parsley and anything else I wanted to use. The only way I do not like them is raw.

I think a telling aspect of this harmony is your genuine thoughtfulness and awareness of the other, frequently complimentary and almost always welcoming of each other's perspective. Next, your videography combined with your choices for musical complement are theater quality. Finally, the fact that I don't recall you ever asking me to hit the thumbs up button, subscribe, and click the bell notification is why I have chosen to do all three.

I'm in CT and 3 years ago, I had basil in one of my cinder block 'holes'. In that Fall, I dug it out of the cider block and transplanted it into a pot and brought it inside. It grew/produced for 3 years; this year (spring....going into it's 4th yr), I cut back all of the basil branches (after harvesting all leaves) and put the pot outside. NEW basil is coming up from the base of the old branches. I love to experiment with things.....just to see what it'll do. But it looks like I'll be getting a whole new basil plant from my 3 yr old, cut back, one. lol
In the Fall, transplant 1 or 2 basil plants into pots and bring them inside; you'll have fresh basil all winter.

Have you considered doing a low tunnel inside your greenhouse for eggplant & other warm crops? 3ft high works well for eggplant. Ping Tung should thrive in the tunnel in greenhouse in zone 3. (We'd field-grow Ping Tung every year in Colorado Zone 5a - tolerates cool temps better than most varieties.) Tunnel in a greenhouse should take you another 1-2 zones warmer, even with just 4-mil poly.
We use low tunnels in Texas to extend our seasons and for wind protection. Aphids always a challenge in tunnels/hoop houses - try interplanting some basil with the eggplant.
Love your channel - great cinematography! Thanks for sharing your adventures!

Kids and I just planted our potatoes yesterday, reds and Yukon gold. We fight scab too, tried adding borax and ashes to the bed this year just to see if that helps but you were adding moss so now I need to research more! Potatoes are the one thing that always does well in the mat su.
