Never heard of it? Yikes. Letterman basically was carrying on the Carson tradition of excellence. Started out as a comic which is where he got his comedy chops. Best part I liked about Letterman is the enunciation and attention to detail. Class act.
I love the answer he gave for "what was in the suitcase" (14:14 - 14:58). Feels like a nuanced way of breaking the fourth wall. It sort of explains why the audience tends to take a lot of ownership of the narrative in his films, in terms of each person having a very personal experience with the different narratives. Thank you, Quentin Tarantino.
I love how Quenton says "I didn't go to directing school, whatever that would be, I didn't go to writing school, whatever that would be" (2:26). He says this after saying he went to acting school.........whatever that would be.
15:09 According to Quentin, "Reservoir Dogs" is a hybrid of The French New Wave film and the 70s American Exploitation film. The “Reservoir” represents the French New Wave crime films and the “Dogs” is from Sam Peckinpah's film Straw Dogs.
I agree that things have gotten way too far into a PC culture and people are far too sensitive. That said, I don't think that joke would offend people, even today. People would have to do some major mental gymnastics to find something in that joke that offends them. I'm sure they'd try though, people look for things to offend them, they love to be offended. lol
Can you imagine seeing Heat and Casino for the first time upon release. Wow!!! Heat is one of my all time favorites. Pachino and DiNero doesn’t get much better than that.
Notice that Quentin never discussed his new movie here, whereas these days it's the exact opposite. And watching this I want to believe that he genuinely wanted to be on Tom's show, he was relaxed and open to conversation. For me what's hilarious is the fact that I never liked the movie From Dusk to Dawn, and that is a kind assessment...( laughing ). This along with John Lennon and Harlin Ellison are perhaps my favorite guests that he had on. Goodnight Tom
I must say! I prefer Tom Snyder or Charlie Rose. Rarely are consider in the same vein. But they have lots of similarities, only different is the types of guests.
Could tell Dave was hot for Uma. LOL. No way that close innuendo sort of interaction would be happening on a talk show today. Dave was def a trend setter.
I love Tarantino movies! Pulp fiction and kill Bill are in my top five of all time! But, the problem of dusk till dawn is not Tarantino’s acting… The second half of the movie just plain sucks!
His mother takes him to watch the movie Deliverence aged 7 which includes a male Rape scene ! Fast forward to his own movie Pulp Fiction and he writes a male Rape scene in his own Script ! Then puts it in his own Movie ? .
This is the best Tarantino interview I've ever watched so far.. and man Tom Snyder, how come I didn't know about him before..
This guy is a great interviewer. This show was before my time never heard of it.
Watch his interview with charles manson
Tom was never uber famous like Carson or Letterman but was a well respected TV staple
He was great. I've seen some Howard Stern, he's terrible. Rich Eisen is good, too.
@@stevethomas2285 oh Stern's interviews are certainly garbage. I'd recommend Marc Maron but he's reeeaaally hit or miss

Kiss Me Deadly reference is in the suitcase
Tom Snyder always made staying up late a priority, even if you didn't care for who his guest was. He always managed to make his interviews compelling.
Definitely.
Watched his show a lot in Middle/High School. GOAT Interviewer
I love how Quenton says "I didn't go to directing school, whatever that would be, I didn't go to writing school, whatever that would be" (2:26). He says this after saying he went to acting school.........whatever that would be.
Thank you so much for this upload! Tarantino is such a smart lovely nerd. I could listen to him for days.
I never expected to watch Tarantino talk passionately about 'Babe' when I woke up this morning.
7:55 the way Tom smiles when he realises Quentin _also_ likes Babe!
I'm addicted to videos, showing him talking about his love of movies 😍
Man I miss Tom Snider. He was so great at making even the most uncomfortable celebs feel at ease. He was a fantastic interviewer.
A class act and a true legend
Totally agree
Snyder
One of the best Tarantino interviews of all time
"From dark til dawn"
it was good but my favorite Tarantino script was 'True Love'...
@@sgc4271 Idk, I thought his best work was Inglorified Bandits
Dusk?
I like how he didn't even correct him.
Bret Snyder the best is definitely Diego Uncharted

I love your work especially Pulp truth and Resovoir cats, not to mention Jackie pink.
And don't forget Resuscitate Bill
@@7beers And the Lovable Eight
Such a lovely interview 🙌🏾
Thanks for uploading ❤️
The energy n pitch of the whole talk itself present the uniqueness of these two great cinema person.
Hats off
Tom Snyder on BABE: "It's not only a movie, it's a meal." :D
Absolute classic. Today guys like this would be littered with shitstorms.
Harmless joke.

So Tom to get the title wrong.
From Dark Til Dawn? I guess I missed that one.
The part about Tarantino's board game collection is why Snyder is the best talk show host ever.
Can you imagine seeing Heat and Casino for the first time upon release. Wow!!! Heat is one of my all time favorites. Pachino and DiNero doesn’t get much better than that.
Tom really asked great questions and was friendly to his guests. Quentin's really relaxed and having a great time.
He’s so charismatic
14:14 I always thought that the suitcase was a very pure example of Hitchcock's MacGuffin idea.
Tom Snyder..of the same caliber of Johnny Carson. There just will never be anyone like them that match what they brought to the game.
Amazing interview!
0:10 epic fail You can see the pain and furry deep in Tarnation's eyes 👹 but still being polite at the same time
“Well I guess it’s just standard operating procedure”
Now I wanna see Quentin Tarantino and James Rolfe play the 'Pulp Fiction' board game on 'Board James'
Great interviewers don't get the name of the movie wrong the guest is on to promote.
8 dislikes? 8 children did not understood story
Great! Thank you!
He’s 33 here.
happy 60th birthday quentin jerome tarantino !!!
that was a super wholesome phone call wtf
7:45 and then he cast De Niro in Jackie Brown soon after this

Goodnight Tom
It's the thirst time in my life that I perceive Quentin as kinda good looking !
Yeah Tom was always on after letterman. Real late at night it was low key and more serious great combo after Dave who was a legend too
Wow Professor
Huge audience to be so dead quiet
this is really different now
Tarantino was in Amsterdam like Vincent vega ?!!
He wrote pulp fiction in Amsterdam, hence the Amsterdam reference.
I miss great interviewers like Tom
Why the heck is he taking a random phone call though. Breaks all the rythm & perceived spontaneity
So good. Thanks.
Wait, did Snyder just defend Birth of a Nation?
Its obvious Gold bars were in the brief case
from dark to dawn
MY MAIN MAN when is he going to remake ACROSS 110TH STREET?
What the fuck, i want a pulp fiction board game
I’ll have a crunch bar please 😅
you want a couple of hot dogs while you're at it?
this show was on too late for me when I was a kid back in 96/97
I must say! I prefer Tom Snyder or Charlie Rose. Rarely are consider in the same vein. But they have lots of similarities, only different is the types of guests.
…Great Interviewer until mispronouncing the very film title - which the featured guest is promoting…
Could tell Dave was hot for Uma. LOL. No way that close innuendo sort of interaction would be happening on a talk show today. Dave was def a trend setter.
Quentin is awesome
FYI Steelers lost.

How has Billy Bob Thornton never played Tom Snider in a biopic.
Because he’s nothing like him.
Fantastic stuff, the unpopularity of these interviews shows how brainless people are.
Great spot! Why is there nothing smart on TV anymore?
Reservoir CATS
Pulp FACTION
FIVE Rooms
TERRIBLE INTERVIEWER! Keep on cutting across Tarantino and people who call in...money for old rope
rationalize it all you want, but Quentin’s films are mentally sick. there’s no reason to suffer through watching the violence.
Such an awkward, odd person.
What a perfectly common and bland thing for a common and bland person to say.
You're probably a total doofus to others.
