Just in case no one has told you, your videos on how to shift and float are the best on the internet and UA-cam. Trust me I have looked at a lot of them. You have a gift for explaining things and including the proper details.Trust me I have looked at a lot of videos on shifting and no one is explaining it properly as you are doing?
I have been a professional semi driver for over 15 years, and this is the way it is properly done. It isn't complicated... You just have to match your engine speed to your transmission speed, which you know from your road speed. This information is good for any manual transmission, as long as you know your speeds, it will work.
@@bussy7264 your lying, no average person can jump up into those big machines and do what they do daily. Which makes them professional truck drivers ya hater
You'll get it Nicholas. Pay attention to your speed/RPM and you'll do just fine. So what if you grind a couple. Pretty soon, you'll feel those gears drop in like nothin'!! Good luck to ya and keep the rubber side down! "Eagle Claw" on the side.
Thank you for taking the take to make this. I'm working on getting my CDL and have been struggling with the downshifting, I can downshift but it's not always clean. Your explanation and "rev in neutral" will definitely help me. Thank you
My new job that I’am starting soon, their trucks are 10speeds. I’ve never driven a 10speed before 😳. I was nervous just thinking about it, until I watched a couple videos. It’s not as bad as I thought🤔. I already know how to drive a manual, just never driven a 10peed. I just received my class A permit over a month ago. I had a class B. My new job is going to train me on their trucks. Once I get comfortable, I’ll take the truck out for my driving test. I’am nervous, and excited at the same time. Very good video 👌🏽.
You make it easier for people to understand how to shift the gears in this truck , it's like you driving a manual shifter car . and thanks for putting the camera on the top so we can see the whole cabin and the way you drive .thank you so much .

Bro! That's how it be out here. Luckily, there are still companies that use both. Having those shifting skill come in handy! Never know when you'll be placed in a manual. It is a great feeling to be able to go from not being able to remember what gear you are in, to knowing when to shift by the sound of the motor, and never having to use the clutch to upshift or downshift. I still watch these videos. I fell in love with the whole CDL process. I only have had my license for 4 years, but I am always trying to become a better professional. Stay safe out here homie!!
Great video brother, well put together presentation. No silly music and editing, I like it. Nice clean tractor too, nice to see professionals out there!
This is a great video. I’m fresh out of CDL driver training school. The only way we can shift is double clutch every single gear. It’s terrible and outdated. Then when school is done, now I have to learn how to float gears.

Basically I have trouble on a rapid slow down. Thanks again!

Anyone ever gets the opportunity to drive a 5 spd Mack do it because you really got to let those RPMs drop to shift a 5 spd is a different type of driving unlike the multi speed progressive shift gear boxes the reason I’m telling you this is so you have a easier time learning to Skip shift on the 9 or 10 spd road ranger gear box when you are Bob tailing or deadheading with an empty trailer on you shift 2 4 pull up your air range changer go to 6 8 10 this is Bob tail or pulling a Empty it takes some practice to get the feel you got to let those RPMs fall more than you would for progressive shifting every gear that’s why I mentioned driving a 5 spd Mack will help you understand about letting the RPMs fall to shift if you try and shift progressively when skipping gears it won’t work you will grind the gears which is bad on the transmission same with trying to shift the 5 Speed Mack progressively it will not shift you will grind skip shifting saves fuel and wear & tear on the truck & you too only do it when Empty or Bob tailing when your loaded you must shift all gears in sequence

Any tips on downshifting while loaded going up a hill? I'm having trouble with this since the rpms are dropping much faster than usual bc of the hill and being loaded. Thanks
Downshift early. If you feel like the fuel pedal is dead and engine is becoming quiet and truck slowing down. That means downshift. Downshift early at 1300 and rev match to 1800 rpms.
