That's Jeff Campitelli On the drums we grew up together in SF/ Berkeley area as close friends.Thank You for the kind words and recognition Joe and Jeff often overlooked for greatness !
One of my absolute favourite drummers. I've stolen so many of his tricks from his Satch days. I blatantly stole his 14:27 fill and put it right into one of the songs on our latest album.
To this day I remember that, when I was 5, I always wanted my Dad to put on Surfing with the Alien on full volume, so I could put my sunglasses on and rock out to it in the living room. I am a fan ever since.
Joe is one of my all time fav guitarists and I know about him all thanks to my dad. My dad introduced me to his music before he passed from cancer 7 years ago. My dad had played guitar for 55 years and I didn't start until I found out he was sick. On my 30th birthday I went out and bought my first guitar and didn't look back. I am 37 years old now and still play. This piece is one of the ones that I am working on. I am also fortunate to be in a position where I have been able to buy my fav guitarists guitar (a JS2450 MCP) and am looking forward to it. Thanks for all you do Michael, I appreciate you and the community you have built.
I've been playing guitar for 30 yrs and agree that out of all the great modern virtuosos, Satriani is the best. Unlike many others in his genre who play a lot of finger tapping and technical speed playing which looks impressive but lacks the quality and substance of Satrianis compositions. I saw Satriani in concert in 2000 and stood about 20 feet from him while he played this amazing song. It was like he was playing to the heavens. The only other band I've seen in concert who had the sound quality of Satch was Rush. I dont know if you've ever heard "Song of the Golden Dragon"l by Estas Tonne but you should check it out. One of the most amazing pieces of guitar work I've ever heard.
The 1st time I heard this song, when I was around 14, I wanted to learn this song note for note. I also said I want to play guitar for the rest of my life because of this song. I got to meet him in ATL and win one of his signature pedals. He signed it and got to get a pic with him. I owe everything that learning the guitar has given me. All the awesome friends and musicians. Thanks, Satch!!
Joe i my favorite solo guitarist of ALL time. The melodies and the hooks are the best I've heard. I can tell it's Satriani playing instantly, and his playing never fails to put me in a good mood. Love, Love, Love that guy.
Not to diminish, in any way, Michael’s ability to analyze and/or break down the song but the value that he brings to this type of video is that he is also very entertaining as well as humorous, at times. In most cases it would drive me crazy how frequently he stops the video to share what we both just saw but I’m more receptive to his choice to start and stop so often because of his desire to immediately share what “he” just saw as well as break it down in only the way he can. I really enjoy his work and also his constant insistence that the listener focus on melody. There isn’t a more melodic Rock guitarist on the planet than ole Satch Boogie!!!
@@Guitargate Amen! Loved your breakdown of, and reaction to, Tommy Emmanuel’s version of “Classical Gas”. He’s otherworldly!!! Keep up the great work, young man.
I'm not a guitarist, but played drums for about 20 years, so the constant stoppage kind of makes me crazy, but I understand why he does it, so I grit my teeth and ride his coattail. Mike is very personable and entertaining, so it's not maddening as much as off-putting. I like how he breaks things down as he himself tries to figure out what's going on. Austin Burcham does this with drumming as well. It's quite educational. Mike's so cool I'm subscribed just because of his personality. LoL

I’ve loved this song sing I was a little kid. Not many can make the guitar sing like Joe can. A true master. Love your videos as always Michael! Gonna go pick up the Strat now.. lol
I have watched that performance a dozen or more times... being a huge Satriani fan and a modest beginner to intermediate guitarist, I know I love that performance but its hard to explain why... it just hits me hard in the feels... hearing you break it down makes the track even more special because it gives me a baseline understanding of what's happening theory wise and gives me more appreciation to the brilliance that is Joe Satriani... Well done Mr Palmisano.

thanks for keeping it real. So great to watch a player that knows how to play and that provides an unvarnished take on what and how this is happening. Respect!
I used to play this song repeated when I put new strings on my guitar as it is a perfect song to break them in because of all the bends and whammy bar tricks that are in it. It does actually modulate to B minor after the tapping phrase, then re-modulates back to B major for the final pass of the main melody. Then instead of ending it where it does on the record, he then jams on the Joe Cocker version of "With A Little Help From My Friends". So technically it's a whole different song.

THANK YOU for helping this non-musician understand one of my favorite pieces of music.
Novice guitar player and only very basic theory, but the main thing I love about your content is it brings me a much deeper appreciation of music. And what would you know? I actually learn stuff! Haha. Thanks.
Holy shit ! I thought i was in the Matrix for a sec, i just commented on one of your recent video, the giveaway i think, to react to this track of his & you just doing it here but you did this before i made the comment. Crazy coincidence ahah
Satriani is a master man! it's incredible when you can appreciate when musicians can be true master of their craft, it's a total other dimension from musicians who just "know" their stuff.
Man you gotta listen to Jason becker! You'd really have a time with anything off the perpetual burn album. Or heck him and Marty Friedman from cacophony on the track "images" would be great as well. Keep it up! Love the channel 🤘
,,,here for school................I'm implored.!........tackling my hero's best,,,,,,,like a river,,,,,flow.!............tnx,
Man you are so entertaining🤣🤣🤣🤣 The way your eye balls analyze the sound and the way you do that swaying rhythmic Marc Rebillet motion while feeling the direction of the sound.......😍🤣😍😍😍🤣🤣🤣You elevate the music to another level from examination and appreciation. Outstanding!!!!😝😝😝😝😝👀
