Well... I hate to ruin it for you all but it's both. Jimi no doubt was influenced heavy and helped creatively by psychedelics but do not make the mistake of thinking thats everything. Jimi loved guitar and music more than anything and he was extremely disciplined with practicing and listening to all music. Anyone can take strong psychedelics and hear profound music but you try to transfor it to your guitar with 100 percent efficiency.😂🦚☮️
Aaron King this is why Hendrix will always be the best in terms of creativity with guitar. Jimi didn’t play a via cover with 2000 notes per minute; but Jimis stuff is real with more feeling than any guitarist I’ve ever heard. 👍💕
the sky was filled with a thousand stars, while the sun kissed the mountains blue And eleven moons, played across the rainbows, above me and you golden rose...
Can't believe someone gave this a thumbsdown. Your playing and tone are as good as Hendrix honestly. It's actually incredible how well you are able to emulate the soul of his playing, keep cranking out the awesome covers!
Well I can believe why someone did, not me though. Although it's very well executed, the main mojo of that intro chord, is that it should be THUMBED over at the low E-string too. All that partial barré chord, should be a) thumb covering both E and A string on the same fret, the 7th fret b) the middle finger should partially barré D and G string both on 6th fret c) index finger on B string 5th fret (no barré) and d) Pinky at the 7th fret first string (no barré). Don't try to skip by doing it the easy way out just because you can't. Frankly I've yet to see any video of how anyone showing this properly. The only one I remember seeing doing it is Eric Johnson whenever he does a cover of it. But you'll miss that chunky and fat chord if it isn't "improperly" fingered with the thumb. It's tricky because the adjacent strings buzzes on your fingerpads, so you must twist them a bit. Takes a while to hone. Sorry I can't find any pic on the net at all showing that chord. It's crucial in my opinion. Here's Erics version, take note how he fingers the very first chord (the way it's supposed to): ua-cam.com/video/ZqvPnbYMlGM/v-deo.html
Forgive them for they know not what they do.. in everything there will be those that can't understand.. it doesn't matter to us we must never dwell on the short comings of others
Jimi had such a natural RnB sensibility to his music, very Cornell dupree like, deep rooted in blues, the foundation was so solid that it allowed his creativity and his soul to just go wherever at will. Amazing Amazing composer
I think the advantage that Jimi Hendrix had that the British guys didn't have access to was that he played on the chitlin circuit with Wilson Pickett, Curtis Knight, the Isley Brothers, Little Richard, and others, that's where he honed his beautiful rythm chops, and then he put the flash and volume on it, game over!
If an artist’s music is to live on, it must be performed, listened to, and enjoyed. Otherwise, it will dry up on the vine, be put away, and never listened to again. Listening to this, I believe actually sells more of the original records. An artist like Roger McGuinn, always liked the internet and modern technology. It spread his Byrd’s music to more people and sold more of his material.
If you have read her story, it is sad. I subscribed to her magazine years ago and enjoyed the articles. Some showed Jimi in a different light, as when he punched a white guy in the face and accused him of ripping off his music. However, Jimi went to as many clubs as he could at night to see what licks and techniques he could borrow from other players. Nobody is100% original. Everyone builds on previous work. Not to say it is a direct copy, rather, it shares some foundation ideas. Janie spent a lot of the fortune trying to promote her husband’s gospel music. She perhaps met Jimi 3 times, each about 10 minutes. She has no Negroid blood in her, features looks white/Japanese. Perhaps her mother taught her Japanese greed, like Yoko Ono. Jimi would want Leon to have a significant portion of his estate, he was his flesh and blood brother. The Bible declares inheritance rights. Yes, Leon may have had problems with drugs in his youth, as did Jimi, but he probably got cleaned up. I like what Alan Douglas did producing Richie Havens and Jimi Hendrix. Al Hendrix comes across as a nice old man in his book I read. It was wrong of Janie to trick an old man in the last years of his life into changing his will to give everything to Janie. What a rat she is!
Wow. That is the closest cover of any Hendrix song I have heard. When I get paid, I will certainly be donating to support your channel growth. You are EXTREMELY talented.
Thanks for this Greg. To put time into learning this and posting it for us to not only see such a skill of yours but how Jimi came up with such amazing tunes. He was and still is the best. RIP Jimi
Hendrix is God as far as I'm concerned. Even my son is named Jimi in tribute. You do a damn fine job in honouring the man himself. Great tones, great phrasing, just great playing. Sound great mate, love it :)
you obviously don't play the guitar or if you do, you suck or else you are just learning. Otherwise you you would understand how Hendrix not only broke the music theory rules, but created a whole new set of music theory rules. Kind of like bending quantum physics. I refuse to be baited into some online argument when after all, what music people like comes down to taste in the end efter all. But those who deny Jimi Hendrix's genius are simply jealous or don't understand. Keep on learning. There are lifetimes of music theory that one can learn!
Hendrix came from another planet. This is why we cannot comprehend his genius.😀 Seriously, he was a one off. Had a terrible childhood with brother Leon. But, it must have triggered some genius in his future years. Love Jimi’s musical legacy🙌👊👌👊👊
Simon Swan Isn’t Greg great? I enjoy his videos. The tone is so nice, don’t need all the other instruments or singing. Jimi had long, skinny fingers and played relaxed and easy. I am glad you pick up on that, as Greg plays so easy and relaxed. I am happy so many of us can enjoy Greg’s wonderful playing.
Fantastic playing! Been looking for a close up cover of this tune so I could finally play it myself. Axis remains my favorite album from Jimi, his most melodic playing IMHO.
Only Greg..really brings out the true feeling of Jimi Hendrix..I can just imagine Jimi alone in his apartment..playing this around midnight..this is what Jimi would have sounded like..play on Greg
A friend that lived across the street from me when I was 14 years old that I listened to albums with in Seattle said Hendrix was a freak genius. I think he was right.
Very nice job! I think this is my favorite song of his. i was a teenager in high school when it came outand we had never heard anything like him. Till this day ,in my opinion, no-one can touch him.
The one aspect of Hendrix playing that I really dig is his rhythm guitar work unfortunately you don't see a lot of great rhythmic players nowadays leave work kind of sucks but his original rhythm pieces are absolutely gorgeous great phrasing in cord choices as well. there's nothing better than a technically proficient rhythm peace with single coils to an in a just slight lead breaking up and guitar tone. I love watching all these videos.
Exemplary rendition that's second to none, NONE! All your Jimi covers are solid gold! Kudos, Greg! Similar study of Baden Powell or Andres Segovia and coming up with a blend of these great artists would create something breathtaking that's truly your own!
Great cover. It's raining out, feeling kinda bluesy remembering a best friend that passed rather suddenly and unexpectedly. The 4th is coming up and we always had killer parties. This one hit close to home. That being said, there is no doubt that Jimi was nd always will be the best and greatest rock guitarist ever.
Why am I only seeing this cover even though it was 5 years ago? I follow this channel and learned many of Hendrix never came across this until now. Pretty guttin lol
How hendrix wrote these masterpieces will always baffle me
Lewis LSD is one hell of a drug..
Jacob Schmitt bullshit he was a musical genius
Jacob Schmitt It wasn’t just the LSD mate... he hadnt tripped by his debut album

I'm listening this song for the first time. Thank to share your great guitar playing.
Gregs versions sound so close to the original Hendrix recordings, I'm surprised Janie H. hasn't tried to suppress it......

Janie Hendrix. She is the reason there is so little Hendrix material online, greed.

That’s just just too good. If you got into jazz, you would be dangerous.

Absolutely Masterfully done, Jimi was such a brilliant virtuoso.. Nobody could touch his fingerboard magic.. Thanks for the goose pimples..
Dude I see you on almost every UA-cam video about Hendrix lol
Heck yeah man, I compared your playing to the original song, spot on man, well played.
that tone holy shit
Really good playing man!
Thanks
Clean playing right on!
Jimmy Page could make his guitar talk and Jimi Hendrix could talk with his guitar. The 2 goats in my eyes
great sound man ! Well done !
Greg, I am SOosOsosOSOoSo glad you made this channel. You are so good its nuts. Please do "My Friend"?
YES!!! My Friend is one of my favorites! But then again I can literally say the same about every single Jimi song lmao
This is one of many reasons why Jimi Hendrix was one of the best 6 stringers.....or any amount of string, skin, or musical kin.
Best Hendrix on UA-cam.
