If the MIVEC system uses oil pressure to change it's parameters, does that mean low engine oil could have a negative effect in the way it functions? Or does the system use a separate "reservoir" for it's oil pressure?
Yes!!! I had to reply to this. I learned the bad way that it does... fixed now and running better than ever thanks to real mechanics. Don't trust main dealers on oil changes...

they dont make 4g63 anymore last ones were on the evo 9 and the 4b11 looks like its more reliable but i prefere the 4g63 and safe psi is safest amount of boost the engine could take with out damaging internals
Question i just bought a 2009 Lancer DE. which also has a 4b11. is the 4b11 a MIVEC all around or does it have to say it on the valve cover? which motor is better and why? 4B11 or the 4G63? if i boost my Lancer 4B11 what is a safe PSI? i will run an intercooler, but not sure if i am able to do it. where can i get more HARDCORE info on this motor? PLEASE HELP.
i know about safe PSI but what i am wondering is how much cause the DE has a 10:0.1 combustion ratio. which is high for boost. or am i out of luck until i get lower combustion pistons.
T55 Torx bit. Had to get mine from a snap-on truck from work. Make sure they have long shanks on them, because the sprocket side of the head bolts can't be reached with a normal short T55 like the others (unless you want to grind the socket end way down)
Yes. Plenty of people have done it. Some have said it can take about 28lbs of boost. Though im not sure how long. But the kit out there run around 8 to 10 for well over 100k miles with no problems
And if you read your owners manual, they tell you that you will get a warning on your screen about it, then you have exactly 30 miles of driving to make it to a dealer or mechanic to fix i
Nothing wrong with a timing chain. Honda K series also uses the same design of link/chain setup The modern "timing chain" is a dam site more stronger and don't stretch like the older type used in old British engines and the Nissan SR series. Another reason why it is done is people are too dam lazy to replace the belt/s when its service time. Most engines are suicidal engines if a belt snaps, from a stone or lack of care, the pistons will close the valvs for you. Then its new engine time.
someone please help. I have a 4b11 engine (galant fortis). The problem is my engine bearings and connecting rod got toasted, so i need a another engine. I cant seem to get a used engine! Does anyone know a link where i could get one?? Also, if possible, I wouldnt mind upgrading it to a 4b11t or 4b12 engine. Any thoughts??
5 years late but "rosssport" in the U.K. Seem to be a go to company for the evo x. I I have just spent £2k with them and fine quality parts at half the price if not more than half compared to dealership
If i remember correctly they have to be seated at about 28 to 30 lbs of torque (i dont have my service manual in front of me), BUT once you have them all seated in sequence you HAVE TO turn them an additional 180 degrees to complete the torque. So get a dial gauge or use a breaker bar like i did that can flip the handle. I finished my head job (to replace valves) about 4 weeks ago
The MIVEC system does not beat the V-Tec of Honda, as its not the same. He clearly states that the MIVEC system adjusts timing only, and not duration or lift of the valves, like honda´s V-Tec. The older 4G92 and 6A12 MIVEC engines did exactly that.

If it has a plastic cover on passenger side of the engine it's timing belt, if no cover it's chain usually can open oil cap and look and see the chain
