Question: How can one crime justify another? How is an institution killing or torturing someone more legitimate than an individual doing the same?

"There is grave harm in the adjustment itself." 💯 accurate.

You rocked my soul, Laura. I remember standing outside ADX with Angela, in an attempt to draw attention to this impending torture. I am grateful to youl for this powerful presentation.

I very strongly Agree!!! The US Prison should have rehabilitation and activities to do while at prison instead of being forced to do things inside the US Prison. They really need to take notice. I honestly believed that the prison should be maximum at 20 years instead of for life.

The worst part about being in solitary is there nothing to wake up to.

She brings up good points but there is little information about the types of people incarcerated and their crimes. She also makes it seem like the conditions are a secret, but there is a lot of information about it online - ignorance or lack of awareness cannot always be blamed on the government, especially with so many sources of knowledge. Also - the most important question - what is an alternative to this type of punishment? Isn't that what should be focused on?

Surely prisoners are rewarded for good behavior and get benefits, and the bad ones who are just real bad keep losing rights and thats why they're in solitary.

Many prisons and local jails use administrative segregation which is solitary to handle individuals with disabilities and mental illness.

Notice how she cares about the killer of a correction guard and not the murdered correction guard.

@@pranavwani2509 try listening again 4:47 -5:27, she mentions the death of the correction officer for a second and then shows the killers drawings, as if this is proof she is correct.

Guys that kill people and are constantly looking to harm some one,yea to me solitary might keep other inmates safe but alot of people in the shu go there for non violent offenses.i don't think someone with a drug problem should be put in solitary like some people do.

Do you understand what solitary confinement does to people I dare you to lock yourself in a room without any sound any phone or technology for a day by yourself and tell me how it feels in just a day you’ll start going crazy and imagine that for 10 or more YEARS you’d lose your mind no you actually lose your mind all those memories that you’ve built up for all those years of your life gone completely wiped these aren’t just rumors this is how the human brain works you wouldn’t speak for years and your vocal cords would let out random sounds you cling to that small cell and you wouldn’t be In touch with reality what’s a life without emotions nothing so don’t come and say that when you have no information on the topic

Patently false. Solitary wasn't in wide use until the 70's and it is not used to prevent escapes at all. You have no idea what you're talking about.

But anyways what about mentally ill people cuz I heard there was a schizophrenic who got shot by a cop in my opinion they shouldn't even be in prison if anywhere they should go to a mental hospital because (if not most, some) law enforcement dont get to learn about mental illness I have ADHD and especially ADHD and autism dont handle punishment very well it just causes meltdowns which like I said earlier about police and mental illness training they just punish us harder which then leads us to fight back which you can probably tell where this is going well I guess that's it for now
