I have a great story to tell. After my dad passed away, I started looking into his family. Turns out thru him, I'm a descendant of Catarina de Orta, sister of Garcia De Orta. They were expelled from Spain in 1942 then took refugee in Portugal where they were forcibly converted by decree in 1497. The de Orta family then moved to Goa, India. García de Orta was a fabulous doctor and served viceroys and sultans, and died before the Inquisition got him in 1568... His sister and my ancestor was not and she was burned for Judaism in 1525. After that the family left to Amsterdam where they could practice their religion. From there to the Caribbean, Curacao, Venezuela, Colombia where I'm from. Is all documents. Crazy history!
Thank you for all of your wonderful lectures. All of my four surnames are Sephardic and my family left Spain for the New World back in the 18th century yet my mothers family still retains many Jewish customs, such as cooking latkes (my favorite) , resting on Saturdays instead of Sundays and my mother was even fortunate enough to have a job where she had Saturdays off , something that the Jewish bakery she ended up working in let her keep (to be fair, everyone had Saturday off there) and other small traditions that looking back, are Jewish. I am now trying to reclaim my ancestor's beliefs along with my partner. He has lent me some volumes of the Talmud and I'm reading the Tan'ach on my own and pray my Sephardic Siddur. The idea is to convert to Orthodox in the future, Gd willing. Your lectures have been a large part of my journey and I always enjoy watching and learning , and enjoy all the jokes. I laugh out loud, yes even at the Chinese kosher restaurant in 1850s California (Because I'm writing a novel on my hometown's history in SoCal). The history is so well researched and I wish this is the history taught in schools over the very innacurate one I learned back in grade and high school. Thank you once again and Baruch Hashem
Thank you for your excellent lectures. Just to clarify, Dr Abramson misspoke at about the 30 minute mark. It was the Abbasids who overthrew the Umayyad Caliphate in 748-750 CE (he inadvertently switched the two). Abd al Rahman I escaped after the rest of the Umayyad dynastic family were executed and went on to establish his own governorship in al-Andalus.
I learned so much. So glad that the timing of my watching is actually almost exactly at the same time you recorded last year soI can hear and learn more about this time of year as it is happening.
Thank you. I cannot understand why the average attention span for your lectures is only 20 minutes. Once I start watching one of them I stay put until the very end. I am going to share this video with Salaam Shalom group (Facebook) because we all need to know that there have been periods of history when Jews and Muslims were able to coexist harmoniously. So if it happened before, surely it can happen again, if we want it to.
Thank U thank U thank U Dr. Abramson! I am a Sufi Muslim woman, born and raised in Canada, and I am absolutely loving listening to your lectures. Tamara
Henry Abramson I do have a request though, and it may be completely out of the realm of possibilities, but I’ll never know unless I ask, right? I am of Punjabi background, and I converted into Islam from a fairly nominal Hindu background. I know that there are very old links between the Jewish people, and the Hindu people, which, of course, I still am by peoplehood. It would be amazing to learn more about that interaction through history. Have you got any lectures about the Jewish people on the subcontinent, by any chance? I could be wrong, but I think that most South Asian Jews have considered themselves to be Mizrahi.
Love your two lectures on this subject so far and plan to attend a few if possible. Your material is well researched and presented in an entertaining format.I am part of a very large Sephardic community here in Brooklyn and there has never been a series taught to cover such a large scope of our history in such an orderly fashion. Hatima Tova.
Dr. Henry Abramson oh, I am richly blessed by your videos, and am learning a lot. I left the church 10 years ago, and have dedicated myself to the Blessed Holy One, and Judaism, I have been having a great time with the teachings of many rabbis, and now this includes you. I am in a place where I can't convert, because there is no Jewish community, but because of people like you oh, I can learn what I can until HaShem, Baruch Hu, moves me do a Jewish community. Todah Rabbah Dr. Abramson
I have not yet watched many of the videos. I just want to say to for me the format of this lecture was great ( as was the lecture) I find the focusing on particular people narrows the understanding history. I hope you make more videos in this format in which societal forces and developments are the main course and the people mentioned just as important participants in the historical scenario.
Sam Vaknin, a sephardic jew, has two lectures which really resonate with some of the key themes of this lecture by Dr. Abramson. "Nationalism vs. Patriotism" and "the narcissism of small differences". I found both lectures and this one to be terribly enlightening. Thank you for your scholarship and the integrity contained therein. Godspeed. ✌️😊
I love your videos as I said I am about 25% Sephardic and my Sephardic ancestors came to America in the early years of the 18th Century. My Mum was however Ashkenazi.
As someone who is interested in this period, I find your lectures addictive. Thanks to the channel Islamic Origins for quoting you :) Subscrobed to both :)
How nice of you to respond. You are providing a great service. Your lectures are entertaining and informative. I especially enjoy the way you provide a balanced view of the relations of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
Excellent Lecture once again. I wish they were longer. Time flies. Its a testament to your brilliant manner and delivery. Appreciate the neutral stance in your lectures. Its a shame many more "learned" men cant shake off their base tribal nature. Keep up the great work. I enjoy your lectures on Jewish history in Spain. I think, often, the predominant society rewrites history in his favor. Abd Al-Rahman was a tough and ruthless man because he lived in a time that necessitated his being tough and ruthless in order to survive. Once the Abbasids toppled the Umayyad dynasty, they slaughtered every male Umayyad whom they could lay their hands on. Abd Al-Rahman escaped, fled to his mother's Berber kinfolk in North Africa and from them raised an army. Supported by a few Umayyad stalwarts in Spain, as well, he invaded the peninsula and took possession of what he reguarded as being rightfully his. There was scarcely any opposition to him from the Christians for they had been thoroughly crushed military in the first Umayyad invasion. The last of the Visigothic nobility who remained alive had retreated to the mountain strongholds of the far North. The Jews had supported the Umayyads in 711 and had even betrayed the Visigothic Kingdom by opening the gates of the capital of Toledo to the Arab armies. Their experience with the previous Muslim dynasty had been mostly a positive one, and that left them inclined to favour Abd Al-Rahman. The real threat to his rule was all the rival Arab and Berber Muslims in Spain who constantly staged conspiracies and launched uprisings against him. The Abbasids supported these rebellions and even launched invasions of their own to dispose of Abd Al-Rahman, once and for all. The Abbasids wanted the Umayyads completely eliminated as potential alternative rulers. Despite this turmoil, Abd Al-Rahman fought off all the military attacks of his Muslim enemies, consolidated his rule over Spain, establishing the Emirate of Cordoba--though some texts say that he personally referred to himself as the one true Caliph--and engaged in many building projects of mosques, palaces and public works that enhanced the power and status of his kingdom. He even managed to consolidate his dynasty itself, and--shades of Joseph and the multi-coloured coat here--passed over his elder sons and left the throne of Cordoba to a favoured-and-beloved younger son. His conquest of Spain and his establishment of a strong dynasty there was an impressive accomplishment.
I'm still perplexed by the way Judaism is a religon, but "Jews" claim also to be a race who are entitled to the "promised land". Many Rabbinical Jews are anti-zionists.
David Leahy most Jews have ethnoracial connections due to lack of incoming converts of intermarriage. Anybody can convert to Judaism but the fact is that very few people do (it’s a long tedious process and most of history it was a religion of outcasts, so who would join it willingly?) and therefore most current Jews are ethnically related. Therein explains the religion-race debate. As for modern Israel - like any sovereign nation it can decide its own immigration policy. If it wants to allow Jews to gain citizenship, that’s its prerogative.
@@davidleahy3972 race???? We identify as a nation a culture a tribe. Turks are also a federation of tribes, so are thr chechens, the iranians, the list goes on.
@@dogbert52 The people actually practiced their faith and the Muslims actually understood their religion. Modern Muslims were just as swayed by demagoguery as Western societies and in many ways turned their back on their faith in favor of what they believed to be the progress of "modernity"

I came across your lecture while watching and listening to videos on Sephardic music. I am extremely glad that I did as I have learned so much from it. The history of the Jews of the Sepharad is a subject that seems to get overlooked much of the time. It is a history that is both colourful and tragic yet in spite of the many dark times through the centuries it has survived and thrived. Thank you for uploading this and your other lectures--I may require a few more lifetimes to look at all of them but I'll do my best! Steve.
Good lecture but, a tiny correction is due: Zyriab, the musician who came from Baghdad to teach etiquette at the Andalusian court, was Ali Ibn Nafi, who was a Muslim, not a Jew.
Hi Dr. Abramson - I have never commented online before - but I just wanted to let you know how much your lectures have been helping me with my studies. Thank you! (and shame on people who type in all caps :) )
Just a small note, since I think you might appreciate knowing this: When an Arabic name starts with "abd", everything after that will usually be one of the names of God, since "abd" means "slave (of)". So when you refer to a person as "Al Rahman (The Most Merciful)", you're referring to him by a name of God. Essentially, it's as if we were to refer to Gabriel as just El. Otherwise: Great lecture! I enjoyed it tremendously!
It is wrong to interpret Allah as God. It is completely different. Mr. abraham please read the qur'an before you compare Islam with Judaism. Islam copied and plagiarized the Torah, new Testament and some Jews fables or legacy. But the way Mohammed lived his life was completely different than the prophets preceded him. He never prophesied anyway. For someone of your caliber shouldn't take Islam before thoroughly read about it. Regardless, I enjoy your lecture
@@HenryAbramsonPhD Mohammad had nothing of his own but copied from Jewish and Christians including names and at times he mixed up stories and dates...albeit language barriers. Unless one has preferred to be politically correct, there is no sign of Muhammad's prophecy.
Incredible lecture, very objective and accurate information by Dr. Abramson; as a scholar I congratulate him for this and other wonderful jobs he does.
The one difference between Jews under Islamic rule than under Christian rule is that Jews and Muslims do not have a racial conflict as in both communties, particularlly among Jews native to the middle east are seen to be as from the same genetic background and thus same race so the conflict is religious by in large.
Love this series (just started) and your unique approach to storytelling. You seem to enjoy the stats on your 'fan club' so thought I'd mention that I download the lectures to an audio file, not watch. That may show in stats as a short visit , but it is not. Oh, hope you continue those comments after the lecture has ended...
Some reasons why the Visigoths fell so quickly were: 1) Civil war amongst the Visigoth elite, in which one half petitioned the assistance of the Muslims across the straights; 2) hatred of the Visigoth elite by the majority of the Hispanorromanos and wanted Visigoth rule to end; 3) superior Muslim military strategy, tactics (including use of cavalry), weaponry and logistics; and, 4) assistance from Jews from the Iberian Peninsula, who received the Muslims as saviors from Visigoth repression.
What is very interesting is that Jesus and his apostles (even Paul who was Saul, the persecutor of Christians) never let go of their Jewish customs and faith. They observed the Law. The Gentiles were excused from Jewish customs but it’s awful that one faith had to be pushed down for the other to grow.
Thank you, I am 65 years old, born in Chile and only recently fond that all my past surnames are Sephardic. Will look to see if you have lectures of the Kabbalistic, Jesuit, Sephartic, Catholic history.
As a Muslim, I'm amazed that the Jews reached their peak during the Muslim civilization in the Iberian peninsula. I hope we can live like this in the Modern era. Shalom aleichem to Abramson and all my Jewish brothers.
Aleikum salaam! Although the Golden Age of Spain was pretty amazing, I wouldn't necessarily call it the "peak"--I'd like to think that's still in the future. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Shana Tova and thank you for another interesting lecture - I'm learning new things each week! The relationship between Judaism and Islam that you discussed at the beginning has long interested me. So much of Islam appears as Judaism filtered through Arab eyes and given an Arab-ethnic twist. Of course in the sixth century there were substantial Jewish Arab tribes in the Hejaz (as well as Arab Christians) , an area not under the control of the Byzantine Empire nor of the Persians, and so easily open for a new religio-political development. Muhammad's people were tribal polytheists but there were plenty of Jewish and Christian Arabs in his acquaintance as well (and some of Muhammad's relatives were Christians, though not that well-informed theologically). I think it is likely that Muhammad learned most of his doctrine (and his Bible knowledge) from Arab Jews but was rejected by them when he presented himself as their prophet: the errors in his biblical knowledge precluded such a claim. Thereafter things went sour between Muhammad and the Jews - although the enormous borrowings of Islam from Judaism are plain. (The Muslims also borrowed a lot of ideas and practices from Syrian Christians but that's another question.) It's an interesting question just how many of the people of Alandalus were Muslims. If it was anything like Egypt, it would have taken quite a while for conversions to take place. Again, thank you for your lectures!
Jewish practices are essentially Semitic practices. Its likely that such things as dietary laws and circumcision were common amongst non Jews in the Middle East. Religions at the time including Judaism were a mosaic of beliefs. Its also likely that there wasnt such a distinction between ethnicities. Its likely that Islam was a reformation movement against the Byzantines who were persecuting many of the early Semitic Christians that rejected Paulinian Christianity and escaped to Arabia. Clearly the Jewish Arab tribes in Arabia had a complicated political relationship with Muhammad just as with other non Jewish tribes even with his own. Not all Jews rejected Muhammad as a prophet since its likely that the original biblical Jews in Palestine are now mostly Muslims.
...... but what do you mean by 'Semitic practices'? The Canaanites were probably 'Semitic' as were the Phoenicians; but idols (iconic representation of the deity), polytheism and child sacrifice had no place among the Hebrews (if we are to believe the Bible) as they did among other 'Semites'. Circumcision wasn't part of Philistine culture. I don't know whether eating pig meat was found among non-Hebrew peoples but I can't see why it would have been excluded. OTOH, I agree that animal sacrifices and incense-burning were common features of 'Semitic religion', not just the Jews.
Clearly the Bible would say polytheism had no place amongst the Hebrews because it was trying to wean them off! Archaeologically plenty of evidence of polytheism. How about the story of Abraham to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice. Again trying to wean the people away from child sacrifice practices. Also archaeologically early Phoenician settlements generally lack evidence of pork bones. Its well known. In any case its not that black and white. Judaism at the time was a mosaic of overlapping ethnic and religious practices amongst many (Semitic) people in the area. Islam may have adopted a lot of Jewish scripture and practices but it was indigenous to the people of the area. Modern Christianity is the way it is today because the Romans/Greeks couldnt adopt what to them were alien Semitic practices. It was difficult to get them to circumcise or stop eating pork.
It is obvious form the people that polytheism appealed to many of the Hebrews - that's what the prophets were constantly railing against. My point was that 'Semitism' (if this means anything other than a linguistic description) included polytheism - and the OT denounced this - uniquely - in every respect. We must beware of inventing 'ideal types' of religion, then trying to make anomalies fit it.Similarly, the Akedah has nothing to do child sacrifice. Isaac was not a child.I think I have read from Dever that pig consumption was known in Canaan but not in the central hills area from about 1000 BC - a sign of Hebrew distinctiveness (in areas where the Israelites were chiefly settled). As was the prohibition of making images of Yahweh. That syncretistic versions of Yahwism existed is clear from the OT itself.Your last sentence is a post ex facto assumption. The NT tells a different story: that food laws and circumcision had only a provisional character because Christ fulfilled the Law.
The conquest of early muslims(campanions of prophet muhammad) were a big mircale in the history of humans. There was no match between them , but they won every battle they fought.

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله Salaam, Henry Abrams. I just wanted to say that I enjoy your lectures and I can't fathom why anyone would attack you personally, I literally have never heard you say anything offensive that was your own words and not a quote, it's likely the truth itself that offends people. I see some Christian complaining about the fact that Juda and Islam are more similar to each other than either is to Christianity and can't imagine why they are incapable of understanding the absolute fallacy of the Trinity and attitudes of Paul regarding the Law of Moses that Christianity boasts so much about being free from, as if you can be liberated from the Law of God, are the reasons and that if they happen to renounce their aversion to the Law and denounce the pagan cloak of the Trinity they would have the same similarities they wish they did. I think they believe if they pretend hard enough that Jesus /Isa (as) was named Yeshua and call him by the name of the OT Prophet (as) despite the fact that in any Semitic language they do not share the same name, like in Syriac, that this alone makes them more genuine Christians. Eyes that do not, refuse even, to see what is plainly evident with minimal research to confirm. ישע.
Yusuf G. 🚨CHRISTIANS/ JEWS DO NOT WORSHIP THE SAME GOD AS MUSLIMS, ALLAH IS A PAGAN MOON GOD AL-ILAT. I’ve read the Qu’ran & it’s a highly vague & shallow version of the Bible full of statements & just telling people what to do in these tiny verses for each surah. It literally sounds like a coaching book😂 “”Say this to People of the Scripture”” or “”Say this to disbelievers”” or your gonna burn on the Last day !”. The Quran doesn’t even tell u a linear storyline in chronological order like it does in the Bible of how man came to be, our original sin that lead to the fall of man kind, Christ coming to pay that price for sin which is death so we can be in heaven again with YAHWEH THE TRUE NAME REVEALED BY GOD TO MOSES. Allah has 99 Names in Islam, but guess who also has many many names, Satan, the Old Serpert !! In The Bible God only has ONE NAME & ONE NAME ALONE TO BE REMEMBERED BY THROUGHOUT ALL THE AGES. Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, **I Am That I Am**: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you. 15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, the Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: ****this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations****. Notice how God didn’t say God of Ishmael? Because Ishmael was from the seed of a prostitute which God did not want Abraham to have that’s why he told him to have another child named Isaac who Christ would descend from not Muhammad !! Hmmmmm. This is another of many reasons why this book wasn’t written by the same True God. WHERE IS THE 10 COMMANDMENTS IN THE QURAN? NOWHERE ! IF THE QURAN CAME FROM THE TRUE GOD U THINK HE’D JUST FORGET HIS MOST IMPORTANT COMMANDMENTS? When the Quran talks about the prophets it literally only gives them like one, two sentence n jumps all over the place like the author doesn’t kno how to tell a story!!😂 it’s sooo vague. basically sum repetitive bs like “Allah is most merciful” WE HAVE ENTIRE BOOKS WRITTEN BY THE PROPHETS U CLAIM TO FOLLOW WHICH GIVES US A COMPLETE STORY UNLIKE MUSLIMS. THERES A REASON WHY THE TORAH & GOSPEL ARE ONE BOOK BEING THE HOLY BIBLE. ITS BECAUSE THEY GO HAND IN HAND & TELL THE SAME STORY & PROPHECIES IN THE TORAH WHICH R FULFILLED IN THE GOSPEL BY JESUS CHRIST. The Quran fits nowhere in here. It contradicts the the 2 Holy Books before it confirming each other proving itself to be a counterfeit Holy Book and not the true religion Compare Muhammad’s last words compared to Christ. Muhammad literally cursed Jews & Christians on his deathbed in the Hadith while Christ forgave those who beat, ripped to shreds by Roman whips, mocked, & nailed to cross him to the cross. He said “ Father !! Forgive them.. for they know not what they do !” ISLAM LITERALLY SPREAD BY THE SWORD AND WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BIGGEST AND LONGEST SLAVE TRADE IN HISTORY THAT LASTED 1400 YEARS . The reason u guys are muslim is because ur country was conquered n was forced to convert to Islam or pay the jizayah !! Which was “protection tax” or else the Muslims wud cut ur head off. Surah 9:29 “Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture - [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled” Surah 9:5 “And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful” ^ peaceful God u got there guys😂 ISIS & all terrorist follow the Quran better then anybody in the western world. They’re doing exactly what Muhammad did in his time. BUT WHAT DID CHRIST SAY? Matthew 5:43- 46 43 “Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? CHRISTIANS WERE PERSECUTED FOR OVER 300 YEARS N NEVER ROSE THE SWORD LIKE MUHAMMAD, HIS FOLLOWERS & THE OTTOMAN CALIPHATE THAT CAME OUT IF IT OR FORCED CONVERSIONS. I’ve read the Quran brother now it’s time for u to read The Bible ! Christ said no one comes to the Father except by through him ! He said he is the Alpha & the Omega, the First & The Last, what began with me shall end with me !!

I'm fascinated by Judaism and Jews in general. Can you do a talk on temple Judaism (Judaism before rabbis)??? What was that like and how was it different???
From receiving the Torah at Sinai there were always "Rabbi's". They were known then as prophets. Moshe was the firs one. Malachi was the last one. They filled the same role as the Rabbi's from Shimon Hatzadik on down till today.

Fascinating!
Thank Adonai for revealing the truth!

Thank you very much Henry, certainly you are a gifted teacher with a great sense of humour too. I enjoyed learning about Jewish history.
I'm so glad that you enjoyed the class! Thank you for your kind words!
Delightful to listen to a natural teacher.
Colonialism destroyed that peaceful period between Muslims and Jews

Dr Abramson, your lectures has piqued my curiosity on not only history in general, but in understanding more about us. A dank!
Interesting observation!

Dear Doctor, I ALWAYS love your lectures . Thank you.

Most interesting that the golden era of Judaism was under the protection of an Islamic ruler.

The one difference between Jews under Islamic rule than under Christian rule is that Jews and Muslims do not have a racial conflict as in both communties, particularlly among Jews native to the middle east are seen to be as from the same genetic background and thus same race so the conflict is religious by in large.

Dear Doctor,
Very good lecture and very much informative. Jews Vs Muslims was a very rare information and God bless you.
It’s amazing the way you teach history. I love your vídeos.
Thank you very much!
What about Yemen jews history?

... thank you for sharing these wonderful lectures with us.
I think most Jews would agree with you that Judaism was a Mosaic of beliefs! :)
...... but what do you mean by 'Semitic practices'?
In the slide of The pact of Umar, the Arabic script spells Othman not Umar
Yes, my error.

Salaam, Henry Abrams.

When the Quran talks about the prophets it literally only gives them like one, two sentence n jumps all over the place like the author doesn’t kno how to tell a story!!😂 it’s sooo vague. basically sum repetitive bs like “Allah is most merciful”
WE HAVE ENTIRE BOOKS WRITTEN BY THE PROPHETS U CLAIM TO FOLLOW WHICH GIVES US A COMPLETE STORY UNLIKE MUSLIMS.
It contradicts the the 2 Holy Books before it confirming each other proving itself to be a counterfeit Holy Book and not the true religion
Compare Muhammad’s last words compared to Christ. Muhammad literally cursed Jews & Christians on his deathbed in the Hadith while Christ forgave those who beat, ripped to shreds by Roman whips, mocked, & nailed to cross him to the cross. He said “ Father !! Forgive them.. for they know not what they do !”
ISLAM LITERALLY SPREAD BY THE SWORD AND WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BIGGEST AND LONGEST SLAVE TRADE IN HISTORY THAT LASTED 1400 YEARS . The reason u guys are muslim is because ur country was conquered n was forced to convert to Islam or pay the jizayah !! Which was “protection tax” or else the Muslims wud cut ur head off.
Surah 9:29 “Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture - [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled”
Surah 9:5 “And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful”
^ peaceful God u got there guys😂 ISIS & all terrorist follow the Quran better then anybody in the western world. They’re doing exactly what Muhammad did in his time. BUT WHAT DID CHRIST SAY?
Matthew 5:43- 46

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
@@YouhavetoBelieve3347 are you seriously on the muslims forced conversion narrative? Jeez dude! How comes the muslim world is religious diverse while Europe is not? Crusades lol!
Push the narrative of the oneness of judeo-christian if you fancy. Muslims don't, facts don't.
So do you agree with the Jewish townwood that says that Jesus was a magician son of a whore and id burning in hell in a lake of excrement?
I grew up in a very Christian town in the US, I've never met a Jewish person in real life (that I know of) and have only met 1 Muslim about a week after the 9/11 attack in 4th grade. I've never considered myself Christian but the idea of the Trinity and a few other things have always drawn me closer to identifying with Judaism and Islam. Like the Christians are interpereting scripture wrong or something. I'd like to learn more about them but again I'm from a very Christian part of the US.
I want to know what happened to those who fled to France?
Did you ever find your answer?
Thank you for a wonderful lecture on sephardic history.
I'm very interested in this topic but I have many questions about our ancestors relationship within the society of Judaism.
Thank you! I enjoyed your lecture so much! I'm learning so much!
Also you said visagoths did not really make it too difficulty on the Jews until the visgothics converted to Catholicism. So please be clearer. So in this one you say the Jews were happy to get rid of visagoths because they treated the Jews so poorly. Which one is it. Frustrating
A good book on the relationship between Muslims, Jews, and Christians in medieval Spain is 'Ornament of the World' by historian Maria Rosa Menocal. Published by Back Bay Books (2002).
Jeff Czermanski Moses was a rabbi...we always had rabbi s " teachers"..
Same here💙🇮🇱Shalom
@@HenryAbramsonPhD Blessings and thankful I found your lectures. I want to formally convert and make Aliyah. I was born in Mexico, now US citizen living in SoCal. Shalom🇮🇱💙
You should read Deuteronomy chapter 28 and Isaiah chapter 6 before getting too involved with Judaism. Make sure you use a real Bible and not any of the fake versions published after 1850. The 1611 King James is the most reliable.
If the average attention span is 20 minutes, mine for a 1 hour lecture by Henry Abramson is 2 hours! (I listen twice to the same video because it's totally fascinating!)
Let the past guide the present
Let’s progress and not regress
Let these be known
Which has been long untold.
