Jeep JK handbrake parking brake not catching (pulling all the way up) - Diagnosis and (my) Fix

- The Jeep JK series has a significant design flaw that causes the handbrake lever to have to come all the way up to engage (and sometimes it's still not enough). While there are several existing videos on different fixes, this video is meant to go over the flawed design, discuss why it stops working, and offer a simple fix that should work for the foreseeable future.

I want to say thank you for doing this video, It fixed my problem...completely replaced my e brake components thinking it would fix the fact that I didnt have any parking brake....Then I saw this and said why not try.....Boom it worked...Your greatly appreciated and you have a new subscriber, blessings and namaste

Why does jeep keep making shit. Have they learned nothing. Screwing with a hand brake REALLY.

what I want to know is what brake shoe spring you used
a set of springs for the the JK e-brake shoes is like $4 at any auto parts store and one the perfect size is in that set
Just any ol' stiff-arse spring of the appropriate length. A brake shoe spring just happened to be lying around and fit the requirements. I believe it was from a kit for a Jeep JK or an older F150.
the little bar sticking down is suppose to be behind the tab sticking up below it, not in front, which is why the clock spring doesn't hold right. Mine just keeps popping over that tab.
ou ae wrong. that is a myth that has been mythbusted on reddit and couple of JK forums. Your "can't get it to stay" and it "keeps hopping back over the tab" because you tried to fix a part that is not broken, and is not "supposed to be behind the tab, it is supposed to be in front.
You have two options: a) fix with an actual extra brake spring like this video shows, or b) getting a new mopar oem entire component which is $70 from dealer if you order on line and which takes about 20 minutes to install after you get console off.
