Fred Gwynne was a talented man. He was a Harvard graduate, a painter, an author and illustrator of children's books. May God bless him and rest in peace.
Fred and his second wife retired to Taneytown, MD, where my grandparents live. Mr. Gwynne and my grandfather struck up a casual friendship before he got sick. He would come down to the Post Office nearly every day to chat with the staff and when I would visit- I was 3 or 4 at the time- he'd walk me around the block and buy me ice cream. Just goes to show you that even some of the biggest stars can be genuine and thoughtful people. RIP.
I had the pleasure of working with Fred Gwynn on a TV movie called The Munsters Revenge. He was very nice and talkative. He mentioned he did not receive any royalties from The Munsters. The royalties had stopped years before.
I had the honor of meeting him. I was working at Tower records in downtown Manhattan in the early 90's. He came in, and asked me if I could help him find any Ruben Blades recordings. I did, and then asked him if he was Fred Gwynne. He said yes, and I told him I enjoyed his work very much. We chatted briefly, shook hands, and went our way.
A good man, and talented actor.
Dawoud Kringle Could you tell what Ruben Blades music stuff he chosen plse?, thank you
Lucky you. It must of been a great honor to meet him. The Munsters were great.

Fred is certainly missed...he had such a beautiful singing voice as well...
One thing not mentioned in this tribute: He was an excellent musician! There was one episode of "The Munsters" where he played an electric guitar and sang -- NO OVERDUBS! :-) Rest in Peace, Mr. Gwynne.

Actors as good as fred gwynne are very few , Legend shall live on...........
When Fred Gywnne passed away that was the passing of one of the Greatest Father Figures in American Television History.
It was a Sad Day and a Great Loss to America.
There Should have been a Moment of Silence for him.
God bless this man! He bought millions upon millions of laugh's on all of his shows! He will continue to for many years to come! My uncle acted with him in the Munsters episode The bats and the bee's ! He told me he was a nice man to work with!

thanks fred for all the years of great entertainment.
Fred is ( was) the best, I loved him in the Munsters..18 years dead already, unbelievable. His anniversary is next month, July 2 nd.
Just finished watching "My Cousin Vinny"
The Munsters is also a classic. Used to watch it when I was young.
RIP Fred Gwynne ;(
I used to watch The Munsters in the 1960’s. I would come home from high school and watch the show. I’ll always have good memories concerning that show. A few years ago I ordered the Munsters on DVD. I just love watching it.
Fred fits in with the all time greats like laurel and hardy, The proof of great comedies is that nearly fifty plus years after they were made people sill truly enjoy them.. RIP Fred and RIP Grandpa Al Lewis.
Fred was a nice man. Saw him at Al's restaurant. Such a gentleman.
i grew up with the Munster when I was young.I live lily Herman Eddie and grandpa especially Marilyn I never miss one show I would get up and straight to the t.v all by myself always and I still watch them now in the 20 century how about that.
Yes he is a very talented actor, he made me laugh in car 54,and especially the Munsters of course. he'll be greatly missed and he's loved extraordinarily. I heard he has an unmarked grave that's not fair to him. I wish I had the loot, I'll definitely buy one for him.
It was his request though. He had money for sure.
@@davesstuff1599 -yes, he was rich before he became an actor. His family wanted the unmarked grave because crazies might go tp his grave on Halloween, and, you know, make a mess. His grave location is known, however.
I agree with what you said about Fred Gwynne. Without ever having met him, I can see what you're saying about him very clearly. I think he was far more than just a Munster. Talent like that is rare. R.I.P. Mr Gwynne.
True class act. A great actor and friend to and friend of so many. Rest in peace dear Mr. Gwynne, Mr. Lewis and Ms. Decarlo.
That poor man was tormented at the fact that nobody recognized him more than the Herman Munster character he portrayed...
handsome in his young days. a wonderful voice. i loved the munsters so much as a kid.
I watched the show when I was young and still watch the reruns now Just the other day I found myself laughing out loud and that doesn’t happen to me often. Such a great actor, artist, author- a man of many talents. And a true gentleman. Heaven gained a wonderful person and I’m glad he is reunited with his loved ones
So handsome and talented!! Don't make emlike that anymore.
Everyone loves Fred Gwynne.
Love fred gwynne,Hermann muster
The episode was "Will success spoil Herman Munster" The song he sang was "Dem bones" and he did very well too. The elephant cry was great too.
Everyone needs to see the episode when he goes to get a checkup at the Dr office played by Paul Lynne. Funny as anything.
A man of many talents never be another like him r.i.p
A real talent. Had the ability to muster genuine laughter from nearly everyone.
66 so young Fred but, as Herman Munster you as today still a legend RIP
I think it's sad there were only 77 episodes of The Munsters. I loved that show.
so sad. one of the best shows ever. rest in peace herman munster. :(
I always think of The Munsters at Halloween time. The 1970’s were a great time to be a kid.
A supremely gifted man, and a nice guy too. May he rest in peace.
I have been listening to him on the old cbs radio drama's & i must say he has got a great radio voice for sure
Fred also played a Mob Boss in the screen movie the Cotton Club. Which came out in 1988. With Actor Bob Hoskins, and Rchard Gere, Gregory Hines. Excellent movie.
What a special person. A great actor, one who will be missed...I really fell in love with his "Herman" character, then when I saw him on "Pet Cemetery", he felt like part of the family. Gonna miss him. Layla in Tulsa
still one of my favorite actors his arts good and been read his children's books as a kid.. legacy
Baby sat me every afternoon in the late 60's .Sometimes Gilligan helped out.
The day after Gwynne passed away , I wore my Herman Munster T-shirt . A cop stopped me , gave me a smartass grin , and said "Are you in MOURNING?!". I said , "Yeah , he was a good cop.".
Bullshit
Always will be the best Actor in the world its a shame not many actors today are like him making people laugh and smile
January 2019 with 32 thumbs down, must be fans of the Addams family.
there needs to be more actors like fred, there really does. he has that certan something that makes a person unique. ohhhhhh fred :( i love and miss you so much :'(
There can never be a Herman Munster as good as he was.
Who the hell thought that Al Lewis would outlive Gwynne.
Thanks man...Fred was/is terrific
i met fred gwynn once, there was an aura of talent around him 3ft thick
May God bless Fred Gwynne, I am still a munsters fan and the rest of his work. What family? the addams who?
TV 93 to now 2014 what a difference in such little time.
Always loved Fred Gwynne
I am a great Munsters' fan and this is really sad, rest in peace, Fred Gwynne ToT, more recently Al Lewis and Yvonne de Carlo, all of them were really tallented...
i wish fred gwynne was still with us today along the rest of the munsters on a talk show but still sad it didn't happen R.I.P. fred gwynne 1926-1993.
every july 4th and oct 31 halloween i tributed fred gwynne with fireworks and the munsters
with my halloween music hocus pocus i put a spell on you and Grim Grinning Ghosts theme
and the munsters dvds.
He wasn't just known for the Munsters or Car 54 Where Are You. He was in such film classics as Ironweed with Jack Nicholson & Meryl Streep My cousin Vinny with Joe Pesci and many other excellent movies. A superb actor.
The soil of a man's heart is stonier Louis: A man grows what he can and he tends to it, because what you buy is what you own, and what you own comes home to you.
A man of many talents taken from this world to soon imo. He was a great character actor.
Fred Gwynne was a superb actor wirh a great resonant voice, which made him perfect for voice-over work. He would have thrived in the age of radio, in fact did some "CBS Radio Mystery Theater" programs later in his career.
Thanks for the video. I was probably Mr. Gwynne's biggest fan!!
oh man... i still cant believe he's died. such a talented man. i will visit his grave one day and tell him how much i love him.
rest in peace Frederick
He was great in Pet Sematary.
Thank you again. Your nice compliments mean so much! :o)
Great Actor, nice guy. It;s a tragedy that he doesn't even have a head stone or name plate on his grave. It remains unmarked. Can nothing be done about this.
I think it's that way to prevent vandals
the munsters man i miss this show i feel like crying rip FRED GWYNNE
I always liked Fred G. he was my all time favorite when I was growing up I was very sad when he passed I was a little bit to young when car 54 was on I just knew him from the munsters but I did c him on car 54 on tv land I liked it may he RIP he was a good and talented man.👍
I remember when he moved into the 'neighborhood' near our home and began appearing in town. Unforturnately he was 'gone' shortly after moving there. Odd how life has a habit of dealing one this type irony. He was known by almost everyone due to his acting career. I think that is as much a plague as a blessing for those in the limelight.
Fred Gwynne will always be rememberred. One of my prize pieces of memorabilia is a program from a play put on by Harvard University's 'Hasty Pudding Club'. I forget the name now, but in the program, Fred Gwynne is pictured and listed in the lead role.
@Alexmcgruer3 This was in 1993. He was 66 at the time of his death. He was born in 1926; in 1964 he was 38 years old. He would be about 84-85 now.
Fred was freaky awesome
He made the world a better place. God bless him. RIP.
We still love you!
Fred Gwynne Graduated from Harvard University , was very intelligent.. and played a sort of gangster type in the movie On The Water Front. Drohegda
I remember readingFred Gwynne's book "A Chocolate Moose" when I was in summer school when I was 8 to 9 years old.
He was great as Herman Munster, but I think it's sad that was all he will be remembered for the most. He and Al Lewis were great together in Car 54 Where Are You?, his Judge role on My Cousin Vinny, and his role in Pet Semetary, were some favorites of mine. Now both he and Al Lewis are making people laugh in his Kingdom along with the other greats we've lost over the years. RIP Fred Gwynne, may you be at eternal peace.
Was not aware he had died, so sad. Loved this guy, RIP Mr. Gwynne.
Unique. Can anyone cite anyone even remotely like him? That's why we need to appreciate real talent when it comes amongst us.
1993... Wow, I can't believe it's been that long. I was 22 at the time.
I remember being sad when I heard about his passing.
grew up with the munsters, thank you fred gwynne!! you will be missed :(
I live in Stratford, CT, and we used to have a theatre in town that had all kinds of great actors and musical acts, from Duke Ellington to The New York Dolls, from Katherine Hepburn to Fred Gwynne. One time when Gwynne was performing there, he got angry at the audience, as some people were talking during the play. He broke character and admonished them. "We are trying to act!!"
Yes I have great ,memories of Fred (Herman) I remember the show in the Munsters when he kicked the football over the house and went for miles. As a kid I thoughjt it was amazing.. Kids ah .
I was very young when he passed I remember watching the munsters and pet cemetery
He was a fantastic artist.
Little does everyone know but Al Lewis was a huge supporter of the Nation of Islam, Pan Africanism and very good friends with Minister Louis Farrakhan. Everytime I saw Farrakhan give a speech, Mr. Lewis was always in attendance or in the audience. Farrakhan would announce all the celebs and Al Lewis was always received in good graces... !
May he rest in Peace as the only White face in a sea of Black ones. He was a stand alone.
Farrakhan the Anti-Semite is not somebody to keep company with.
Great memories.
...Funny you mentioned haircut and shoes because those were items that stood out on the 'Herman Munster' character he portrayed. ---LOL!
---Thanks 4 the comments! :o)
There are 2 Actors that have the greatest respect for their work in the Major Motion Picture Industry. One of them is Yvonne DeCarlo. TV was but the tip of the mountain so broad with awesome achievements. A giant.
one of a kind he will be missed by many rip..

That guy was multi dimensional if there ever were one. Herman Munster was a class act that will go down as one of the most loved characters in history!
Fred Gwynne was a grate man.
Rest in peace you wer the best!!!!!
He was a man of many talents r.i.p
I used to hang out in NYC a lot back in the late 1980's thro the early 2000's but i never knew that "GRANDPA" had a restaurant there b4 his passing, it kinda made me feel bad as i passed that place A TON ,LOL, one of my favorite record shops was on that street ( now closed) and just hanging out in that neighborhood in general . R.I.P TO THEM BOTH.
Yvonne DeCarlo (who of course played Fred's wife, Lily) is featured in a great, new bio called Charlton Heston: An Incredible Life: Revised Edition! The bio is at amazon for sale!
Fred will always be missed. There is only one Patrolman Muldune, one Judge Hallorine, & there will only be 1 Herman Munster! David
wow; maybe not a kinder man on television. He's still missed today. What a talented man who could do it all. Still a very popular timeless show
Great video. A shame people have to act like babies when leaving comments in here.
rip fred, the greatest franekstien parody ever
YES HE WAZ A LENGED TO FRED GWYNNE R.I.P
