Rear Springs, Shocks, & Sway Bar Links Replacement with Lift Kit - FJ Cruiser Part 2 of 2
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- This video is a continuation (Part 2 ... Part 1 was on the front end) on replacing the rear suspension shocks, springs and sway bar links for a Toyota FJ Cruiser. The replacement shocks and springs is part of a "lift kit" that adds another 2 inches of ride height to the vehicle. Having and using a bottle jack is recommended to spread the axle away from the chassis in order to remove the old springs and to install the new extended springs with minimal effort. Due to the weight and ground clearance of the FJ Cruiser, recommend you use 6 ton jack stands.

Your video helped me a great deal. Good info on using Toyota bushings and loved the trick of using a bottle jack on the axle to help put the larger springs in.
Glad you liked it and thanks for your post!

Right tools for the job...
Why the replacement rear sway bar link? Is it different length?
The boots on both sway bar links were split open. The replacements were the same length. I didn't mention or show that. Good question.
Did you replace the sway bar links because they were bad or longer links were required for the lift kit? I've watched the video a few times and if you mention it, I keep missing it.
From my recollection, the lift kit needed new longer links.
great job
Thanks ... glad you liked it!
At 3:53 what is the metal bracket that holds the break lines, shock and the sway bar. I need to know because mine broke and I can’t find anything like it for sale
Not quite certain what you're referring too. Suggest addressing problem with a replacement part from a salvage yard or dealership.
Helpful video, what brand of box end ratchet are you using?
It's a brand called Mountain. Went through several different cheaper brands that eventually broke down then I found these used by the pros at the shop. Extremely durable and versatile in tight spots that need torque. I provided a Amazon link in the video description.
What rims are those? I have the same ones on my FJ and want a spare but can't find the manufacturer anywhere.
Can't say. Customer's car.
what was that ratchet tool used to remove top nut on shock?
It's a Double Box Universal Spline Reversible Ratcheting Wrench. I provide a link the text description of this video.
Thanks
@@Ed-sh8jt you bet!
What tool were you using to get rust off? Thanks!
Rotary wire brush attached to a right angle portable drill.
How many miles on that vehicle?
A little over 100K miles.
Idk. It might be me but the rear looks a bit higher
Could be. Springs may take awhile to settle in.
No spacers? THANK GOD!! 🤣
Did one on a Subaru with spacers. Had to partially drop the subframe to fit them in. And yes, it was a pain.
