    I am an fj owner and fan of this gracious vehicle. Currently modified with 3 inch leveling kit and riding on 33 bfg's. I barely take mine off road, but when I do my fj makes me feel and look like a pro. Your channel has provided with the right amount of information for people like me trying to make the most of this ride. Keep the videos coming!

    The way some of these "extreme offroad" FJs have been butchered breaks my heart. Spacer lifts are the gateway drug. Next thing you know you're breaking out the Sawzall. Eventually your FJ is too tweaked to drive to work. Time for intervention and rehab. It's a vicious cycle.

    Back in 2014 I couldn’t find substantial info on lifts on my 2012 FJ so I was told by a popular shop that did a ton of FJs. Had no idea what a Mall Crawler was but he convinced me of CVC joint angles would be better with a 6” lift. (He was looking out for his pocket not my needs) So as more videos came out and information of experience ppl with lifts I realized it was a bad choice but not a killer. Just a waist of $$$! 35s fit a lot easier but the front skid plate had to be fabricated with the transmission one too.(trimmed a bit) and it took me 4 yrs to find a person her on Long Island NY.
    What you did with a 3 inch lift and spacers is what I would recommend to anyone that is going to want to lift there FJ. Best bang for the buck.
    Now with a Pro Comp 6 inch lift, King Coil overs, bumpers, sliders, skid plates, (No front sway bar) winch, duel batteries, lights, Roof rack (for tent) storage case in rear…. Happy with it and it ride’s awesome. 4 wheeling handles well but have not done anything crazy.

Is there a set up you would recommend in the $1000-2000ish range. He'll be using it mostly for camping trips etc and wont be doing any extreme off-roading. Appreciate any advice. Thank you!

    I picked up my retirement FJ found a good one but has a bunch of stuff on it including a full skid plate frnt to back. it has a lift on it and I’m not sure what exactly it is believe I have the 3” non adjust.and currently has 285-70/17 with no rub on factory rims. The only thing that would look halfway decent on this would be some M/T my dilemma is do I go back to factory size or stick with the 285s and I have a decent spare. currently vehicle is aligned great.W/The Courser MXT however ready for another set.🤔

  • @arefeshghi

    If trye size determines the clearance, then wouldn't a lift that accommodates selected tyre size be enough?
    Also, is there really a difference between offroad ability of a 31inch tyre vs 33 inch one, when 33inch tyres only increase the ground clearance by 1 inch?

    Thank you for the videos...i just bought a FJ 2012... And I'm thinking to go with 3 inch suspension...I'm torn between kings and icon. Also thinking to put 35" tires. Dominhqve to regear it? Because of the 35s? Some people say i had to but I'm not sure

    • @FJX2000_Productions
      @FJX2000_Productions  2 роки тому

      Hello! Thanks for watching! Yeah either Fox or King are a solid choice, I personally would choose King but that’s just me. And as I mention in the part 3 video and in my “Where to being with mods” video I express how 33s are certainly the preferred size of tire as getting them to fit is easy. But 35s do require a bit of trimming and modifications to get to run without rubbing on anything, but it can be done. I have 34s/35s and I’ve never regeared . It would be nice sure! But it doesn’t HAVE to be done. Since you have a 2012 FJ with the 8.2” rear diff you could go with 4.56 gears or 4.88 gears, but for earlier 2007-2009 FJs with the smaller 8” rear diff I recommend sticking with 4.56 gears.

    Great video! I have a 2011 2WD with Bilstein 5100s all around and Toytec 3" Lift w/ Front & Rear Coils (TT3-FRCC). I don't go off-roading, just normal road driving. The ride quality is more on the stiffer side and would like to make the ride a little softer. I'm looking at the MaxTrac 4" Lift Spindles and Fox 2.0 coilovers. Any suggestion on how to level the rear? Do you think I can keep the rear Toytec 2" coils and add a spacer to level my FJ?

    • @FJX2000_Productions
      @FJX2000_Productions  2 роки тому

      Hey there! So to make sure I understand, you want to switch the Bilstein shocks with the Fox ones? And I'm not sure how the MaxTrac spindles with front spacers would work if you also have lifted shocks/coils already installed.

    I purchased an FJ with a pro comp 6 inch lift + 35 inch tires, and regretting not watching this video beforehand. Any idea if it’s possible to remove the pro comp lift and re-weld the crossmember in? I am looking to downsize to a regular adjustable 3 inch lift but realizing now I may be stuck. Ride quality on the pro comp is terrible - even on regular roads.

    Great video.. I’m planning a 3 ‘’ lift but I don’t know what kind of suspension do i chose fox or iron man or Arb can you suggest a good one for me for the fj ?

    • @FJX2000_Productions
      @FJX2000_Productions  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks! Out of those 3 options, Iron Man 4x4 is the most cost effective for their non-adjustable lift kit, but then you don't have the ability to fine tune your ride height. Iron Man does offer a newer adjustable coilover suspension kit, so that is something to consider, but I'm sure both work fine. Fox is a trusted company for a lot of folks and is probably the most premium of the options listed, plus they offer adjustable coilovers, but part of what you're probably paying for is the "name brand." If my ARB you mean their suspension division, Old Man Emu (OME), then they also have very similar suspension to Iron Man. IronMan 4x4 and ARB are competitors and pretty much sell the same or equivalent products, but ARB is the more well known and trusted brand. Ultimately it is your choice, but I go into some more detail on suspension stuff in part 3 of this series so keep your eyes peeled for that.

      So for a long time I didnt a body lift but only added it to make rubbing less likely and I've been pleased with the result. And it is generally recommended that folks replace their gear ratio for larger tires such as 35s or bigger but I havent done it 🤷‍♂️
