We're here for you if you're going through stuff and want to talk about it. The comment section belongs to you
I don’t know if you will even see my comment, but you are the only person that say “I love you” to me, I wish I got that more from people around me
Do people not know how much it costs to attend medical school? The tuition alone for each year is about 50 to 70 thousand dollars depending on the school. As a medical student, you are not able to work so you need to take out loans for your cost of living and all school related expenses such as books, equipment, subscriptions to third party resources, and the ridiculous amount it costs to take the medical boards. Even if you are frugal with your money, you need to take out about an additional 15 to 20 thousand dollars for these expenses. To make it worse, the federal government charges around a 5% service fee every time you take out loans. So four years and the compounded interest really does add up to upwards of 400 thousand dollars. So when a medical student expresses concern over this amount, they are not lying or trying to get sympathy! Just trying to put things into perspective!
P.S. As always, it was a great video Rachel ❤❤I'm rooting for you! You got this Dr. Southard!
Thank you, Mineli
Hi Rachel! I want to thank you for always being so open and transparent with us about your life as a med student. I'm currently an MS1, and this past year has presented me with challenges that I never ever expected to have in med school. Not just the challenges of the heavy workload and content and balancing schedules and expectations, but also some of the social challenges I've faced. I was having a rough day today, just in my head a lot about some situations that have come up since starting school, when I finally had time to sit and watch this vlog. And it was so comforting to see that I'm not alone in this, and encouraging to hear your thoughts on how to move through difficult times like this, to just continue to be a good person and treat people with kindness. You've been such an inspiration and role model for me, and even though we're at different schools and in different years, I've felt like I have another friend in this whole big dang process of becoming a doctor. So so excited for you next week and to see where life takes you next! Much love ❤
😭 Kathleen. Thank you for sharing this with me. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with these compounding challenges. You’re strong enough to sort them out and handle them, I promise. Keep your chin up, it’ll get harder before it gets easier. 🤍 and thank you for your kindness
Match is next week!!! The stress and the excitement you must feel. I’m so excited for you. Manifesting number one for you
Very very nervous. Thank you 🤍
You are such a light Rachel. Even when you’re feeling things that aren’t so happy you are open and honest, and that is so refreshing. I’m an aspiring physician and I’m also struggling a lot right now, but watching your videos has made a huge impact on me lately. Thank you for being you.
Harley--your comment made my entire day. Thank you.
time flies by so fast!! all your hard work paid off and you’ll soon be on this next chapter of your life. Lots of love from Canada and the herd is so proud with how far you’ve come 🤍
Hi from Ontario 😀
Thank you Manya
Your comments about your student loans didn’t seem like a cry for help. You came across as factual. Keep up doing great. I’m looking forward to 3/17. ❤️
Thank you, Aileen
whatever is going on Rachel, we are here for you, and respect you privacy. Excited for your future.
🤍
Thank you so much for your transparency. As someone who is applying this cycle, I have questioned so many financial burdens through this process. The world will always need someone to ask those uncomfortable questions. Congratulations on graduating!
What a timely video this was for me. It's incredibly normal to experience these feelings and I would find anyone who can get through pre-med/MCAT or medical school without these moments to be quite abnormal. It would make me question whether or not they should be practicing medicine at all if they don't experience these normal human emotions. I too am going through it since I'm on a break and am starting back up in a week with my post bacc classes. The anxiety is overwhelming but I know it's a wave and I'll ride the wave and just take care of myself in the meantime. I find talking the way you do to be very therapeutic so thank you for making these thoughts and chats so public. It reminds me that this is normal
Ride the wave, like you said. Enjoy it
I am so excited for you! You have brought us along on your journey and I appreciate it. You have grown so much from the beginning. I remember when you were going to Tartget to get your room set up when you were getting ready for year one of Medical School. Now look at you. Rachel, you will make an excellent physician.
So long ago. it's wild to see how much growth there has been.
You are going to do great where ever you do residency.
Thank you
It cost me 60k just for grad school (2 years including summers) just to become a speech language pathologist! The cost for any advanced schooling for medically oriented fields is insane. I feel that programs know these fields are competitive to break into and charge whatever they like because they know people will pay it. It really is disgusting - don’t take any negative comments to heart, a lot of people lack the ability to consider situations outside of their own ❤
Can we please have a skincare routine video? You're always glowing.
Hey Rachel not sure if you’ll see this but I love your videos! Every night after my night shift I watch one of your videos I’m going to run out soon 😂 but yeah love your honesty and your vibe so thanks for being you !
We are here for you Rachel!!!
Today is the match!! good luck!!! really hope the best for you
your message completly resonated with me, I had to cut off a close friend last week after continued months of unfairness and disrespect. so thank you for sharing, you described everything I was feeling and everything that I needed to hear :)
I'm happy you benefited from my advice. Here for you
You did it!!!!! Congratulations! ❤️
Wonderful video..really inspiring and motivating to push through difficult times! Really admire your transparency about your student loan!
My life been hitting me like a bus lately. Thank you Rachel ❤
Here for you
Stay strong! All the best
I love you so much! And as always, thank you for this great video. Have a nice day :)
In the building waiting from Barbados, I always feel like iam watching Meredith Grey when I watch your videos 😄😊
hehe
Hey Rachel, I interviewed at 25 programs. decided to only rank 14. I am having a lot of feelings and second thoughts about myself right now too. I decided to not even rank some prestigious programs because I just didn't wanna go there. The interview vibe was off and moving so far from family would be just too much. If I dont get my top 2...?? idk. Life will change drastically. Good luck and whatever happens we made it this far right?
Good luck, Aaron!
im so proud of u :) hope u really make it!
Another great video, you inspire me so much I pray that you'll get your first choice
Thank you love
i totally feel fur you with the loans hope you get through this
I really needed this video thanks a lot for sharing your emotions
You are so welcome
Can’t wait to watch this
11:47 walking back from stressrrhea 😂 yesss
God gave us emotions because He has emotions and we're made in His image. Emotions are good and beautiful but the painful ones are hard to work through. I've been told that emotions are not dictators they're indicators. And we can bring God our emotions and not live by how we feel but by what He says. That's also easier said than done.
I love your rings! where did you get them from?
Ana Luisa!
I remember watching your first/second week of med school video 🥹🥹🥹look at u now I’m so proud. I’ll definitely let you know when I get into med school!
Omg Rachel!!!!! With all due respect, you looked fantastic for med prom 🥹
Awh thank you!!
In the building watching from Barbados 😊😎
Loved the video! Do you have a recipe you follow for your salmon?!
No recipe! I just wing it
Love ya
♥️💪
💛💛💛
Rachel i dont know what u did, its aging, or u lost weight or something or got some done to ur face.. i dnt knw but u look so different
Med school has aged me. I also lost some weight haha
Hi how are you feeling
Good! and you?
@@RachelSouthard good thanks and thanks for replying to me
Move to Texas it’s significantly cheaper
But as a future OBGYN, i cannot work in Texas :'-)
rad tech programs at community college are around 6-7k...... every other type of med program is a rip off
…”no matter what the reason was for why this situation happened, it doesn’t matter because it doesn’t change anything and it doesn’t change you as a human being.” Needed that message Rachel 🫶🏼
I have faith your going to pay off your loans. You’ve demonstrated hard work while being in med school. Keep working hard and don’t give up.
I’m looking forward to your future videos on loans! I’m a first-year med student rn and I feel like I’m glad my school was transparent with me about the costs and how to repay the money through PSLF. But not everyone has that, and I think that this is really great content you’re putting out to inform people on the reality of student loans for medical students because a lot of people don’t really understand unless they’re actually in med school!!
I’m a surgery tech currently completing my pre reqs for med school. Thank you for showing me how normal it is to feel overwhelmed or anxious at times
Hey I’m thinking of doing what your doing, surgery tech and later medical school. What do you think about it? Would you recommend it?
Half a million?! Just to become a doctor which by the way it’s what the world NEEDS constantly more doctors and more nurses. I’m acc so shocked then residency pay is little to none compared to the pay increase after residency😩
Praying that you get great news this upcoming Monday! Congrats on making it this far. I'm a third-year medical student now and your videos have been a lot of fun to keep up with.
I also have 350k in med school loan debt. It’s pretty average and rubbery
SHEEESH
Hey Rachel! So happy for you that you're finishing up your medical school career! I wish you the best of luck with your match and paying off the debt. My older brother had about $500k in debt and just recently got it dismissed through the 10-year loan forgiveness program. It definitely feels like a big weight off your shoulders once it's gone. It's great to hear more people are talking about it because it's crazy that these are the numbers you have to incur in addition to other aspects of opportunity cost if a medical career is what you choose to pursue.
10 year?! I’m soooooo jealous. I’m applying to vet school and it’s 25 years for us 😭😭
It's always mind refreshing to binge watch her vlogs❤️😃
You're the best!
Omg how can they get an amount wrong like that, that’s crazy!
insane.
This intro brought tears to my eyes. I had a whole emotional release. It was much needed. Your words and advice are so true and just what I needed through my nursing journey. Your videos always make my week! Thank you always being real and for even taking the time to make these. The HERD loves you!
YES! This is why i air our my laundry on here cause i know at least ONE PERSON will benefit
Hi Rachel happy Saturday afternoon and I hope you having amazing day today and I loved your vlogs and you are amazing Supporter and I'm proud of you
I feel like you should continue to be open about loans because that helps more people to feel that they are not alone in this situation.
Maybe as you face your journey to repaid others can follow your lead.
The realness is contagious and so encouraging!! I hope and pray there are more future doctors out there just like this!!
Thank you 😭😭🤍
How do you classes work? Do you have classes everyday day or...?
Almost time for match! Just remember you’ve done everything you can at this point and the rest is up to the algorithm!
Love that you are back with dr. Z! Everything happens for a reason and I feel like you were a great fit there.
He's so wonderful.
Girl idk if you know to hear this, but your hair is looking so full and healthy and gorgeous
Thank you Nicole!! :D I've noticed a huge difference recently in how healthy and full it is.
Where did you get your nail kit?
Amazon!
I really needed that conversation Rachel thank you🤍🤍🤍
I graduate nursing school May 2023. Everyone tells me to be excited but my brain won’t let me and like to prepare for the worst. Imposter syndrome is the worst. Graduation should not be stressful and hard but it is
Best of luck :) You're going to do great
When ever i am upset i watch Rachel s vlog ( i watch you Always but i rewatch when i do not feel good ) it is like you are my favorite Friend because you are such great person i love you Rachel 😘❤️❤️
I cant wait to see you match
Thank you Lindsay
Thank you so much Rachel i really need to Hear this your words Always help me
Rachel you’re awesome! ❤️
YOU are
The pep talk was the thing I needed to hear from somebody else than my therapist to fully acknowledge that, thank you :)
Here for you
Always look forward to your videos Rachel ☺️ I just wanted to say that I have doubts doing Medicine because I’ll be starting University when I’m a bit older than usually people are when they start and also because I feel like I won’t make a good applicant (I want to be a Doctor but I stress easily and have doubts of becoming one due to how stressful it is) It’s more anxiety about the future I suppose but it’s been stressing me out lately as I have my final exams approaching for high school. Sorry for the long rant, it’s been on my mind a lot recently.
Thank you for sharing, Abi. It's stressful--i agree. But you can handle it. Keep pushing forward
@@RachelSouthard really appreciate your reply :) thank YOU for creating this community which is such a safe space. I appreciate you being so open in your videos when it must be so difficult in the moment. It makes me realise I’m not alone ☺️
love watching your vlogs! you’re going to do great where ever you do your residency!! i wish you the very best of luck. you’re my idol ❤️ i have to ask tho, what is the name of your nail kit ? 🙈
Thank you!! 😭
I’m not sure of the name but it’s from amazon!
❤❤
Med school proms are a thing?
Yup!
Congrats on matching!! Ive been a follower since your mcat video! SO PROUD
i love you rachel
I love you more.
random question. what type of desk do you have? is it a standing desk? if so, what brand
You got lip fillers right 😊 they look great ❤❤❤
What a coincidence but I've been going on teaching job interviews because I'm finishing up my second state exam in two months and the whole process has been so nerve-wrecking and frustrating. I haven't gotten my top priority, which is a bummer, and still waiting for an offer, but I felt weirdly connected with you in this video. Wishing the best for you
Everything works out the way it should 🤍 reach out to your top place again
Watching this after seeing you matched your #1 Congratulations!!!🥹🥳
manifesting a great Friday for you next week! also, thanks for the pep talk 🥹
