You are so inspiring, your videos give me a little more energy for my studies, looking forward to hearing more about your transition into residency!

    Hi Rachel, 3rd year student athletic therapist here! For release for trapezius or levator scap push down on the muscle distally then stretch. Move up a cm more proximal and stretch. This has helped my athletes in the past. Feel better!

    I’m a chiropractor student! Thanks for putting out in quotes at the beginning of the video. There’s a lot of misinformation that chiropractors can tend to spend about your spine being “out of alignment” and it can really no-cebo the general population

    • @OliviaHorner
      @OliviaHorner Рік тому +5

      I would say that some chiropractors are kind of “pseudoscientist”. There’s a lot of old philosophy in the profession but there’s a a huge wave of evidenced-based chiropractors that are informed by research and work alongside MDs, DOs, therapist and other healthcare professionals. I can understand your reservation but luckily, the majority of students coming out of chiropractic school are trending toward a more evidence informed practice!

      Hey Olivia,
      I’m also a chiropractic student at Palmer college of chiropractic and I couldnt agree with you more. Palmer especially has a huge presence of old philosophy because of DD and BJ Palmer obviously starting the school. I would also agree that we are trending towards evidence based reasoning etc. thanks for your input. I enjoy both you and Rachel’s videos!

    I’ve definitely had a similar pain before. Sometimes I think it’s best to just let it resolve by itself. Better than risking it get worse getting an adjustment every day. My pain got better after about a week!

    • @RachelSouthard
      @RachelSouthard  Рік тому +3

      I honestly don’t think it would’ve resolved on its own. It needed intervention, especially how it was impacting my daily life. Luckily, providers like Dr. Z know what the tissue can handle/provide the appropriate treatments without making circumstances worse :)

    Looks like such a great rotation! 😊 And although not OBGYN, you can for sure incorporate the OMM skills from this rotation/school into OBGYN to relieve pain in pregnant patients (like sciatica for instance!). I hope you feel better and that the OMM helped your neck - suboccipital release is the best haha.

    i feel like PMNR (sorry if i didn't get all the letters right) is very much like physical therapy. i learned basically every technique that he did while in my ortho classes. its interesting to see the overlap of scope of practices. also, PT has a pelvic health setting, and it might be beneficial to get to know one in case you need to refer patients to PT. just a suggestion

    I haven't watched the whole vlog yet, so this may not be required lol But, I used to get pain like this when I was a kid. I found sleeping without a pillow seemed to help a little. May/ may not help you, but it's worth a shot - and then you might not need to keep taking NSAIDs if it does :)

    Hi Rachel - I liked how you explained what the doctor was doing when you were getting your neck worked on. (No other chiropractor/cracking videos have done that.) Maybe this (medical explanation) could be something you start doing from time to time? Could be a way to make your channel stand out. Anyways, just thought I'd pass that on. Take care, and great work as always! Scary to think that you're almost done with medical school! It feels like yesterday that you were just starting as a first year....

    Many years ago, I trained with an amazing woman to help correct my imbalances and misalignment. She's a retired nurse who studied various ancient meditative practices including Asian style yoga for several decades. Anyway, doctors are notorious for not telling their patients, especially postpartum women, the importance of correcting these two issues. Some people develop neck and shoulder pain from them while others do so from unknowingly tensing that area when stressed. Eventually, nerves are pinched from chronically contracted muscles and misaligned bones.
    This is an excellent area to learn. Probably most of your future patients will be chronic pain sufferers. Just like with mastering stiches, they'll adore you for helping in some way to stop pain even if it's just a referral to others who you know for sure have the expertise.
