      Dream was fairly easy to install. but all the rest require resources. idk if i should also download "Daggerfall Expanded Textures" & "RMB Resource Pack" if i want to use "Beautiful Villages of Daggerfall" or if they're included in the DREAM package. also what order to put them all in.

      @@JackPorter Yes you should get those as well. And once you load them all in the mod manager in-game, when you leave the mod manager it should suggest to arrange them automatically. The only key one is you want to make sure the 3D trees is below the low poly trees.

    "You can spend hours in the first dungeon being lost". Actually someone at Bethesda thought of that too, possibly right before they finished packaging, because way back then I borrowed my copy from the library, and it included an official guide on getting out of the first dungeon. They just explained everything you had to do, including that if you would just hurry up you didn't actually need to kill the imp.

      Yes I understand there is more to daggerfall than all that but thats what hurt starfield as a game the most imo, if they wanted to make a game like daggerfall, then they need to have more hardcore rpg elements similar to daggerfalls and give me a reason to sink more hours into it.
      Anyway
      Now for Elder Scrolls 6 for me all I ask is that they hand craft about 60% of the map and RNG the other 40% for grinding out unimportant dungeons for loot and exploring the wilderness whenever you feel like it. Honestly looking at Skyrim and Oblivions map about those ratios were RNGd just not in real time lol. As well as giving us back options they kept out of oblivion and Skyrim (ignoring Morrowind for it's circumstances here) for the sake of making the games a bit more accessible.

    The story of Daggerfall is probably the most important story in all of TES. Pretty much explains how Mannimarco becomes the Necromancer's moon and deals with the creation of Talos as a divine. Before this game there was no Talos and it was only 8 Divines. If this game's plot didn't happen there wouldn't even be a Civil war in Skyrim as Talos as a divine wouldn't exist and would have simply have just been the famous Tiber Septim just an ordinary man who just happened to be very skilled.

    Games back then also came with HUGE manuals that were NOT OPTIONAL to read. Basically a necessity and came loaded with information; sometimes even close to mini walkthroughs to help get people started. I have seen a few with full bestiaries within them. I started gaming in the late 90s as a child but I still remember the N64 manuals having loads of info but being not as necessary; good thing because we got most from second hand stores.

      By 'original' I meant the default original experience. As in, you boot up the game and it's what you have as your first encounter. And I accidentally conflated 'click' for a keypress as well. It doesn't help that the hotkey page of the manual doesn't mention ALT and you have to read carefully to not miss the part about the 2 different look around settings.
      Fun fact, there are 2 versions of the Daggerfall manual. First printed when Bethesda was under Media Technology Limited then a second Zenimax version. In the second version, a new line was added to the manual. They added:
      "Hundreds of hours of beta testing by the Bethesda Softworks staff has determined that the best interface for Daggerfall is the View Based interface, not the cursor based interface used by Arena." - That wasn't there in the original manual, it only became a standard later on and you still had to manually switch to it, but actually telling players to switch was a later thing.

    Just started playing yesterday, already sunk 10 hours into it.
    story: there's basically three types of quests.
    3 - roaming quests, you can just talk to any npc and ask for work and they'll tell you who has side quests available. why does no other RPG do this!?
    2 - Guild Quests. and with the Expanded Quests mod there's so many of them and with quest list on you can pick which you wanna do. very easy to keep track of.
    1 - Main Storylines. you get mail that three kingdoms need your help but one is on a timer, so you take that one first. and you have all the time in the world to do the rest, so it doesn't become overwhelming, just make sure not to pick up too many quests
    side note, i went to daggerfall immediately and got a endgame dungeon with a 150 day timelimit. that's a little stupid, but they probably expected you to visit the closest city and not just immediately go to daggerfall before getting told about it. i just reloaded a save before i accepted the quest. (for every old school game, save early save often!)
    i generally don't like quests with timers. but it forces you to be more picky with what quests you pick up, and keeps a clean quest log, which i like.
    gameplay loop: the dungeons are 3x as big as they really needed to be, if you like exploration, you can spend hours in one cave checking the map if you missed hidden doors.
    And that's basically it, you get quests and explore dungeons. there aren't any dialogue trees, the combat is a dice game, there isn't any emergent gameplay.
    It's so strange seeing what elder scrolls is like when you peel off all the other layers. and have a flat city of easily findable quests, that are easy to follow once you know how the map works.
    The game might be a bit too simplistic for my likes, but i'll probably finish it just to see the story. i heard it's pretty important for the world of Elder Scrolls.
    top tips: when making a character
    get the Dai-katana, it is simply the highest damage weapon in the game.
    get the ebony dagger, otherwise you will have to punch magic creatures to death.

    • @queuedjar4578
      @queuedjar4578 2 місяці тому

      Dai-Katanas are good but some enemies have natural resistances to blades (which is why the infamous privateers hold skeleton is always such a formidable boss for first time players. Almost everyone defaults to wailing at it with a sword which is the weapon with the lowest chance to hit a skeleton. They actually don't have that much health).

    • @GamerZakh
      @GamerZakh  Рік тому +1

      GOG wanted to keep it updated, but it got so complicated with mod makers and permissions it became messy and impractical also because of some miscommunications from GOG. Now it seems the modding community hates the GOG version (for good reasons) and I don't think they'd be willing to give permission to let GOG update the game. But that also means the GOG version will stay in the form it is now, which is still the easiest and fastest way.

    Wonderful video. I played both Arena and Daggerfall when they released. Ultima Underworld too, for that matter. You can play this game for ages and still discover new stuff. It's not as if we never grew a bit bored of it but we didn't really "life" games back then. We played a couple of hours now and then and enjoyed them in smaller chunks, between playing soccer and hanging out with friends. Good, old 90s.
    My first successful character was a spellcasting thief type. Can't even remember whether I made it myself or used a premade template. Breaking and entering was probably the most popular time sink in this game. I've never finished the main quest. I will... someday.
    I've revisited this game once or twice per decade since 2000. This one will be special!

    Trying to remember this game that I tried to play in the 1990s. I vaguely recall a town ghost trying to exact vengeance on me every time a wanted to go out for an evening stride, successfully completing a dungeon only to have the child that I had rescued die in front of a closed city gate that made me miss my deadline for completing the quest, and hours of walking towards a ship seemingly lying near the shore of a nearby sea without making noticeable progress in my attempt to cover the distance. The vastness of the world was impressive, and I liked traveling by horse through the forested landscape, but overall I found it less immersive than Ultima VII, which despite its small size and outdated graphics remains my favorite in this respect.

But so much of the behind the scenes mechanics were still some of the best and most immersive games I have played to date. I wish they built more games that used most of these mechanics and improve upon them for future elder scrolls. Add more survival mechanics maybe.
    I remember joining guilds felt meaningful and skills felt like impactful decisions. While had such great difficulty for survival and the dungeons, even though were repetitive , felt very good for exploration. Towns were the first that felt lived in. Such a great game.
