  • Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves was way better than I had anticipated and I am so happy with the outcome. It's a wonderful love letter to fans of Dungeons and Dragons and is just a fun time.

The "Speak with Dead" scene made ma laugh so much and submerged me under an incredible wave of nostalgie at the same time, it was really great. When your team screwed up and killed THE NPC who was the link in your quest and the silence around the caster until someone messed up or thinks they should ask the question themselves and you have to wait days before doing it again, priceless.
Had a lot of fun watching the movie to say the list, I'm so glad that the creators really care for the media they transposed. Plus as an antique arms and armours' afficionado I should add that some armors are pretty neat and realistic in this movie and spoiler alert, they do protect from blows! Incredible, they finally made it!
Sorry I must go, I forgot my daily linseed oil session. Cheers!

Chris did a perfect job playing the bard. So entertaining.

I put it in the same category as The Mummy (1999). Not, like, a filmmaking masterpiece, but UNBELIEVABLY FUN

I went to see this movie with my dad (who has never played dnd and knows nothing about it) and I must say, it's such a good movie even for people who don't know anything about dnd. did we have deep conversations about the writing and character arcs afterwards? nope! did we talk about the spectacle, comedy and how stupidly fun it was? fuck yea.

I wasn't expecting much from this movie, but omg I was laughing my ass off multiple times! It is an incredibly fun movie and it reminded me so much of the shenanigans me and my party pulled off a lot of the times

I did think that the movie was just a medieval Guardians of the Galaxy, but it was still really fun.

To be fair I think guardians of the galaxy is the closest I've seen a movie be to the tone/vibe of your average DnD campaign.

The wild shaping into an Owlbear is actually the most DnD thing to me because who doesn't have a little bit of homebrew in their campaign? For me, it just made it even more authentic.

I've let a druid do that in my campaign since the charcter wouldn't know about dinosaurs for their high level wildshapes.

It was great fun. I was interested when I saw the trailers, got worried when I read the interview with the writers, but then the final film gave me a great time.

Nowadays, I don't feel that there are enough mid-tier budget flicks, the good old summer blockbusters that draw a variety of people rather than everyone who has to see the big new story breaking movie from a movie cinematic universe. I feel D&D is a good film for the good old mid tier budget films, it certainly is about double the budget of what someone would expect a mid tier budget film, and it certainly didn't help that it came out between John Wick 4 and The Super Mario Bro's Movie, and while those factors certainly might stop the people in charge from making more movies like this, it was good for what it was, and what that was, was fun

So, now I totally want to see a tv series based on the Star Trek original cast movies with Chris Pine as Kirk, ungratefully aging, bombastic, charming and cunning.

I've said it before and I will say it again: this movie is a COMFORT movie, it's not the best, but it's fun and comforting to watch, and that's what makes it so good.

Seen it now, though I'm sad to see that it spent such a short time in theaters, especially since it was a really fun ride. Great writing and solid acting all around made this a treat.

As someone else in the comments said, this sits up there with The Mummy (1999). Comparing it to The Princess Bride, as you did, also fits the vibe. I'd put Pacific Rim in a similar category. It's just a lovable FUN movie that is guaranteed to make you smile no matter how many times you watch it.

I think the reason Holga works so well is her relationship with her ex lover and Edgin. Characters like Holga often fail to be not just intelligent, but emotionally intelligent too, but it’s clear that she isn’t. She’s very emotionally intelligent, she’s aware of other’s wants and needs and it’s a very refreshing take on the “bad girl can take down anyone” trope, since that usually also includes emotional distance.

Sometimes I think the entertainment industry has forgotten that movies are allowed to be entertaining. Versus having to make Great Film. But this is a case, which I'm always happy to being proven perfectly wrong about

It was so nice to see someone NOT dogging on this movie! I really enjoyed watching it. It's not a Lord of the Rings masterpiece, but it's so much fun and so much like sitting around a table rolling dice with friends. And if you enjoyed this, I really recommend "Knights of Badassdom" (available on Prime) with Peter Dinklage and Ryan Kwanten (True Blood). It has a very similar vibe.
