1st R.I.P. Dear John Wetton. You are unforgettable. You will live further with your music. Forever. 2nd Thanks for uploading this. 3rd I love the version of "Don’t Cry“. Especially Steve Howe’s playing mandolin. 4th I love the version of „The Smile Has Left Your Eyes“. Especially Steve Howe playing the guitar. 5th To all ASIA lovers: stay safe
I've met Geoff downes delivered to his house a real gentleman gave me a boxed set of asia cds had a photo with him and a autograph happy birthday for August
News of this reunion may well have been the happiest musical moment of my life. Very satisfying and a lesson in keeping the faith after 23 years. Indeed,God walks with us. RIPower John Wetton
I tell you what, having Asia reunited back in 2006 was a dream come true!! I was a teenager in the early '80's when Asia debuted, and I looked forward to seeing them in concert and kicking out many more albums. Unfortunately, all that came to a halt Sept, 10th 1983 when Wetton left the band. 2006 when the band had set their tour schedule, I told my best friend a die-hard Asia fan as well, we HAD to see them. We saw them perform at Park West theatre in Chicago, in Sept. of 2006 to a crowd of about 900 people. After the show, we were blown away that the band was taking the time to autograph memorabilia. Oh yeah, that was magical and a lifetime opportunity to get a poster signed and have a few words with all of them. Thank you Asia and RIP John Wetton, thank you for coming together again. My musical life wasn't the same "Without You"
My favorite band EVER! I was beyond excited when the reunion nes was announced, and remember watching this on VH1 when it first aired! To say that I was excited would be an understatement. This reunion was the single most important musical event of my life. I will be forever grateful to all 4 members for doing this for the fans. John will always be my favorite musician. He is sorly missed. God bless you John!
@@barsouk Yes. If it weren’t for Asia, I would have not have explored the other bands. Pop and Prog are taboo combinations to staunch Prog Rock fans. Which is why so many simply never quite “got it” when it came to Asia’s music.
Asia was my gateway drug to exploring and enjoying prog. I was a fan of ELP but from Asia I went and explored for UK, King Crimson, Yes's full catalogue, etc....
@@barsouk what is wrong with that? It is a matter of.identity and tastes... I love King crimson, yes and elp also... But i growned up when Asia came up at the 80s, so i also love toto and GTR
This rendition of Don’t Cry is just brilliant. I miss these guys. Just glad to be able to watch this as another month in quarantine goes by. Thanks for posting it
Thank you for uploading this. 4 days after this they kicked off the tour in Rochester, NY in a club, on my birthday. I attended with a friend from England and my uncle who turned me on to prog. Great night.
Why did this just come out in Feb. 2017? Loved the acoustic versions of Don't Cry & The Smile has Left Your Eyes, plus Steve's mandolin was a very nice touch. The guys all look happy here and ready to rock again. Sad to know what the future was going to bring.....RIP John ♡.
Asia was so huge from that debut album they all worked together writing lyrics and each with their instruments but when alpha was in the works they kinda went into another direction John was very interested in going more pop top 40 for that album they did not write as a complete band for alpha Steve was not pleased with that but did his guitar work unselfish wise, then the production was not good for alpha then management thought John was drinking too much what a joke he gets booted before the tour when it was decided too reunite with him again Steve bowed out that brought us Astra a very good album kinda dark with still very fine lyrics it wasn't received well but should have been I just wish they would have left well enough alone talking management and seen what this band could have done through the 80s nevertheless we all enjoy what they did I sure do
Don't cry was product of.the pressure coming from John kalodner (they did not.have hits for.alpha at that Time) The main reason was the pressure of.kalodner,.leaving out tracks such "lying.to.yourself" a wetton-howe song... And blame.the no.comercial success in comparison with the first album, to Wetton John passed a very hard time for.such guilty and according to howe (in His autobiography) him, palmer.and Downes were not supportive with John In real, four members were uncomfortable with the final product of alpha. But things were.on great during early 2006.where they reunited on a hotel AND worked.out Executives, eager to generate hits were.the main responsibles for.the breakup in 1983
Don't Cry made me choke up, miss your great vocals Mr Wetton and your very talented band mates.

Geez! Even when John Wetton talks, even though he's quiet, his speaking voice is just larger than life. What a vocal talent he was!
Great band!!! One my favorites, there will never be another Asia!❤

- Uhh no the record company wanted it more pop. And it didn't sell as well - Then they blamed John it.
alpha is my most favorite album, the 1st one was overrated
very good interview the originaL 4some were the always the secret for success !!
Rip john wetton
It is so strange since John passed all of this material, professional and otherwise is coming out in a giant wave.
John Wetton was a lefty!!!
And played bass righty
I'm a lefty too!
I never saw this air originally. Nice piece and love that it was 25th of Asia but did 2 Alpha tracks where John got kicked out by Steve. Awkward!
Double Agent Steve Howe is a bit of a dick isn’t he
Ironic. Don't Cry is what broke up the band (according to Downes).
EconMan How so? Steve didn’t like the song or something?
Source?
