Taste only comes with practice. I keep buying what I think is the most timeless choice, and 1-2 years later or so I look at my almost complete garbage collection and completely change whatever approach I might have had. At least now I'm at a phase where my watches won't lose much value, so the next awakening won't feel as bad as the last ones. Maybe. And thanks for your refreshing approach - after hundreds of hours of watching watch channels, I actually agree that this is - today, for me - the best video on the topic.
I've been thinking very seriously about slimming down my not-very-large collection to 3 or 4 watches because these days some are just getting zero wrist-time. 1) CW C60 Chrono on dark green leather strap £1500 - used to be my daily but only wear as a beater now. 2) CW Bel Canto Verde original LE on bracelet £3300 - collector's piece, hardly wear 3) CW Bel Canto Azzurro original LE on bracelet £3300 - again just as a collectible. 4) Bremont H1 Fury Blue on aftermarket blue gator strap £6000 - a cross between a pilot & dress watch. Hardly wear 5) Tudor BB58 GMT Black/Burgundy on bracelet £4000 - this is my new daily. Absolutely loving this watch right now. 6) Tudor BB GMT S&G Rootbeer £5000 - such a subtle classy piece. Hardly wear since I bought my two-tone Rolex 7) Omega SMP Black dial/yellow gold on bracelet £12000 - previously my daily. Hardly wear since buying my BB58 GMT Coke & Rolex 8) Rolex YM Everose/steel black dial £14000 - mix of daily/special occasions. Probably wear the most after the Tudor 9) Omega SMP full Sedna gold/blue dial on a OEM blue gator strap with Sedna gold clasp - £27000 + £3400 (new strap) - special occasions only. Oy vey..what to do?! 18.5 cm wrist. All bought new. Omegas & Bremont bought at big discounts from AD's in New Year sales (-36% & -40%). Others at or close to RRP
I have a vintage watch collection as a separate collection from my main collection. I don’t include it because they are either project watches that need servicing and/or repairs, or are too precious to use on a daily basis like my Polerouter or Longines Estate
There are as many ways to collect as there are collections. You have yours, others have theirs. I don't use categories just ensure versatility in some pieces. Generally I have bought it because I like the way it looks
And that's why I developed the list of watches you need in your collection! Or else it can get out of hand with a bunch of trendy pieces that you'll fall out of love with too soon! Thanks for the comment.
I’ve made the mistakes… I’ve caught the Diabetes 😂 so this list hits hard. Nowadays, I’ve recovered and this is a good representation of what my current collection looks like. Awesome perspective on collecting. Also that Bel Canto, sensational 🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌 🔥 🔥🔥
I like your perspective on this, it’s a breath of fresh air vs. all the other UA-camrs. I’ve never really cared about categories, I have a bunch of GMT watches but no dress watches. I always find it weird when people spend their money based on other opinions (except when the wife finds out what you spent 😵)
Just tell her they're great investments & that if you sold them today you'd make a profit...that's what I do because it's true with a couple of my watches. 😁
My collection principles are also crafted around ailcohol consumption. I need a good solid timepiece on my left wrist to counter balance the Ouzo in my right hand. Ya mas!
I’m never concerned about categories of watches. I buy watches I like. Period.
You're doing it the right way!
100% agree... There shouldn't be any rules, buy and wear what you like... That's it.

Thank you for those kind words! Finding what makes your collection your own is a long process!
Brilliant points made.
Thank you!
Brilliant different approach!
Thank you!
Like the one watch collection, this could be the one-category collection.

4) Bremont H1 Fury Blue on aftermarket blue gator strap £6000 - a cross between a pilot & dress watch. Hardly wear

Ooooooo The Project Watch would be a good category!

Admitting you have a problem is the first step! Hahaha!
@@stevepapa 😂 🤣 but I don’t wanna change
@@Carloshernandez-kk7dp bahahaha
I like how you categorized, it makes a lot more sense. I've got a 24 bay watch box completely filled and more in a drawer. I really need to downsize.
Thank you! Yeah I've been cutting down my collection all year. It feels so much better now!
What I don't like is those phrases: "it should..." and "you should...". I think collecting is a matter of taste, not obligation
I totally get that and that's why I used those categories. Watches should be an extension of your personality!

Hahaha Στην υγεία μας!
Add the “because I like it” category
Ooooooooo nice! I can see that being part of the guilty pleasure or drifter category but I'll have to think about it more.
I just buy what I love and it turns out I love Divers. So yea, I own divers
Same here! Divers fill out most of my collection!
Hahahahaha drink your juice baby. It’ll be ok.
It was needed!
