Your commentary and descriptions on the CSC are informative and direct. Best ive seen yet tryimg to get to the bottom of objectively attempting to differentiate between the authentic and the clone. I am an amateur watch repair enthusiast and owner of a 16600. I bought it new from an AD in 1994. ( the good old days) With the level of production achieved with " fake " Rolex today, i would be hard pressed to purchase from anyone other than an AD. Thanx for sharing and i anxiously await part 2.
I have a clone sub and took apart the movement and serviced it.. it needed lubrication. Regulated it and now it’s been running strong. Now if someone looks closely at the bracelet you can tell but the case and dial are crazy close..
White tag hue looks grayish. Should be a bright white. The model and serial number warranty card lettering is off as well. Inside the box the imprinted Rolex logo is off. Also I noticed that it brought you to the German Rolex website and your phone did the auto translation. Unless this watch was manufactured for that market I think that would also be a giveaway . The card is not meant to bring you to your specific model but rather to the Rolex website so that’s ok.
If u ever handle a genuine modern Rolex watch, u will find the bracelet clasp closures are very smooth with a satisfying feel to it. The crown screw in and out actions are smooth and the hands and date changing are precise with very little free-play. The outside and dial aesthetic of the watch you can hardly find any defects but the main weakness lies with movement and its quality (or lack of it)
Rolex doesn't hand finish their movements. The balance wheel adjustment screws are the best way to check the best replicas against a real one. They will likely be missing on the fake. The best fakes can actually swap 90% of the movement components with a real one... but very few go to the trouble of getting the balance wheel right.
Agree. The free sprung balance wheel is the only thing the super clones have not faked...yet.. The rest of the movements are pretty spot on. Without removing the back you can fool 99% of watch makers on the best super clones
Immediately, when you pulled out the box and took off the sleeve, I could tell the watch was a replica, because Rolex is not going give you a damage box on each end Rolex is on the perfection side, not only that you can tell the corners of the box is not made properly so once you get one red flag, you pretty much know the rest another thing I noticed on the warranty card holder. The stitching was sloppy. That’s another thing you can check for now the watch looks awesome but those little things I just talked about are red flags other than that it would be hard to tell you’re 100% correct
Is it really worth the time to sit and stare at something looking for tells? For me, its not worth my time, I will buy the fake and be happy with a 95% there example. There are much better ways to spend over 10 grand. Nevermind the resale value, I could care less as I intend to use it, I am not in the retail business. Just buy from a reputed dealer instead of trying to become an authentication authority yourself. You can get scammed in so many ways - real cases with fake movements, fake cases with real movements, fake dials, super replicas that are different from the one you have etc. etc. don't waste money supporting these counterfeiters with your purchase.
We all have to admit! China has pretty much nailed it! On creating very nice replicas. And soon if not by now there will be every guy wearing one. Especially for the price. Besides no one walks around checking people's wrist and inspecting anyones watch. Who cares!!!
Opening the watch and looking at the parts isn’t going to insure it’s a Rolex. Some of the super clones are just that good. If you’re willing to pay to have that watch verified reach out to me. It’s a service I’ve provided to clients many times. Third party verification is definitely the way to go. The evaluator doesn’t have an interest in the outcome.
I just bought Cartier Ballon Bleu from a HK online store, paid £120 and is amazing, it came with the same original looking box, present bag as yours with Cartier logo, loads of paperwork and even a fake receipt with cashier number/name etc on it and price I supposedly paid in HKD. They are amazing. They also sell Rolex watches and that will be my next buy. As they are automatic I hope to last a long time.
Hi I am also looking into getting better knowledge on being able to tell the difference between genuine and replica, where did you get that watch from as I would like to buy a submariner to compare next to my original 1 Thanks
The paint drying on his wall was much more riveting! A vastly cheaper Casio will be more reliable and accurate. You don't have to worry if it's a fake either.
I think you haters have missed the point. Some clones are so good that to the untrained eye, it's impossible to tell. If you don't have a genuine Rolex model to compare it with. Some clone makers even use parts of Rolex movements to further complicate matters. Sure the level of finishing on the movement doesn't compare to genuine Rolex, but there are watches on the market right now that make the guys on 47th St NYC shake their heads.
These things actually do carry some value. I have a friend who wanted a replacement bracelet and bought one of these just to get that alone. Works well and does the job.
Everything is off. Take a black light to the warranty card also. Fonts off on card, bag it came in is off, the card holder is off. Sound of the bezel is off. You need to pull a loop on the font also. Need to look at the finishing on the hands. There is many ways to tell. The finishing on the crown, cut on the bezel etc..
Hey Hunter, Nice video, just to be clear! Regarding The NFC Chip, it will send you to the rolex website, but not necessarily to the specific model you purchased. is it possible for you to tell me where you bought the watch and maybe also a link.😉🙏 Br Jesper
Rolex watches are handmade from the beginning to end. Only robots used are ones to transport equipment parts throughout the factory. Have a family member who works for Rolex
The super clones today are nearly undistinguishable from authentic from the outside unless you have a real one side by side. However, twist the case back and its all over in under 30 seconds. Balance will have inertial weights where as the clone will not.
Look here. You don't even have to open the watch to identify a super clone. Get a 10X magnification loupe and move the minute hand on top of the hour hand and use the hour hand as a mirror to see the back of the minute hand. As of Dec 2023 the super clones still have an unpolished rough surface on the back of the minute hand. Plus, if you also look carefully at the hand’s edges with the same loupe, the edges need to be razor sharp. If you see any irregularities on any of the edges that is a clone. The edges are the clone’s main giveaway. And I can still find many other defects without opening the watch or have authentic Rolex next to me for comparison. Plus, Rolex keep a serial number database for cross reference as well.

Actualy it's quite easy to identify the super clones. You can tell it's fake or not just by winding the watch, the real one feels smooth to wind, while the fake one is not smooth. If you really want to be sure, just ask the seller to open the caseback and you can look for the balance wheel. The real one uses free sprung balance and blue parachrom spring. It's non economical for super clone factories to use free sprung balance wheel to manufacture their movement.
