Others that have read The Final Empire/Mistborn have told me that I remind them a bit of Vin. Short. Dark chopped hair. Isolated/extremely stubborn. It's scary 💀
Her character is just so well written too. She only gets stronger through embracing her femininity, and she fucking,,, isn’t defined by her trauma at the hands of men??? It doesn’t stop her??? 100/10
A valid critique of Mistborn is that there are hardly any female characters with much depth to them - other than Vin, the only other prominent one in the original trilogy is Tindwyl - but the women that are present are very well written in my opinion.
this what I love about his writting, Sarene in Elantris is better. I love his portray of woman mentality it s not like other books when the main character is a female, hate love and is angry every time and need a man to be gentle.
Vin wanted Elend to be gentle. When Elend got to know vin wasn't what she claimed she was, he rightly dismissed vin from his life (if not from his mind ofcourse). She didn't think about the words he said while leaving her. Thought, she was the ultimate victim of his.
I havent read the books but Ive been thinking about it. Is there a main male lead as well? And, is the male lead also strong (etc power and mentality wise)? My thanks to whoever responds!
In a less sexiest tone Vin probably is very popular and likeable for readers because she is human. She is not perfect, has is strength and its weaknesses, and grows. She is very strong and powerful but doesn't lose her femininity, she loves Elend very much but that's not their only quality and in the end she gets better as a person, as a Mistborn, as a partner, as friend and as the world saviour. Yeah her character is not perfectly written and her love triangle of book 2 is horrible, but unlike a lot of other young heroines of a lot of Fantasy and science fiction books for teenagers she is a character that feels real. She is not another Mary Sue.
No? That's just... objectively not what happened in the book... She was being temped by Preservation to take up the power for selfish reasons to save Elend. Her doing it "because feelings" would mean she would have given in to her selfish desire to save Elend's life and take the power in the Well. She explicitly REJECTED that. She was trying to do the noble thing. The reason it didn't work - the reason it released Ruin - was not because she was acting on selfish impulse, but because Ruin had *literally changed the prophecy*. Everyone (not just Vin, but also Elend, the rest of Kelsier's crew, and even Sazed) thought that releasing the power was the correct choice because Ruin altered the wording of the prophecy. - Specifically, the wording: "Alendi must not reach the Well of Ascension, for he must not be allowed to release the thing that is imprisoned there." was changed by Ruin to instead read "Alendi must not reach the Well of Ascension. He must not take the power for himself." - That change reframes Vin's choice from being one of keeping Ruin imprisoned or letting him free *INTO* a choice of selfishly taking the power for herself to save Elend or selflessly releasing the power back into the world. The fact that you're criticizing Vin's decision based on the limited information she had at the time is frankly kind of baffling.
You didn’t read the book or are misremembering it. She let Ruin free in an attempt to do the greater good. She was going to let Elend die so she could give up the power. She didn’t know she was SUPPOSED to save Elend and use the power to keep Ruin imprisoned
Misandry is caused by misogyny. Besides, Vin slaughtered both men and women. But since English is a patriarchal language, the word men often means people. Just like the words guys often includes girls

Vin is awesome! ❤
SO AWESOME
This is interesting. I couldn't tell if Vin would be a popular character with women or not.
ive seen several say that Vin and a few of his female characters are their favorite ever.

The male main character is in my top characters that I've ever read, (I've read over 500 books). 💯 Would recommend
She's a great character like anyone else in a Sanderson novel except for the moments where the plot gets forced and I yell at a paperback.
