RV-10 Wings - 025 - Wing Tank More Prosealing
Вставка

- In this video I go through the process of adding a completely prosealed in rib to the tank!
I show how I am adding the proseal to the parts and then how I add the rivets. It may not be the 100% correct way to do it, but it's how I understand the process.
If you have any suggestions regarding how I'm doing this please don't hesitate to say something..
Jason, thanks for all the videos...I watched them all (empennage and wings) from start to finish!...Keep up the good work...I had been thinking of becoming a 'repeat offender' and doing either an RV-10or RV-12 or RV14.... I miss the challenge of building.... This time I will go Aluminum even though the fiberglass was fun too..You have lots of good tips...Good to see how others do things...BTW....The Pro-Seal is a type of polysulfide rubber compound which imparts to it it's lovely aroma...We used to use it in dentistry back in the 70's...Patients 'loved' it...and yes... it did get all over the place...especially when first starting to use it...If it gets on your clothes, they become rags or discards...
Old post but very helpful as I begin to seal the tanks. I just moved to Florida from San Antonio after 30 years.
Jason. Really enjoy your videos and appreciate your effort. Look forward to the next one
jason
Great job.. you are doing this in a pro and great manor .. please keep up the great job!!
I just found your channel, amazing work!!!!
glad your back, was missing the weekly-ish videos
Not sure where you are at with prosealing, but as an Apache helo maintainer, we use small acid brushes to apply proseal. Beats the heck out of applying with lollypop sticks and you can control it and apply it in a uniform manner almost as if you were painting with proseal. Tips for hits. Enjoying your videos as I have been interested in building an RV10 for years. Built a factory five AC Cobra......RV10 is next!!!
To add to Seth Miller's comment, I will use a small cup of very soapy water to dip my finger in and then use my soapy finger to smooth out the pro-seal. The pro-seal won't stick to your finger like this and you can get a very nice smooth look. Might not matter for the tank but it's a good technique for sealing up antennas and leaving a smooth surface to paint. Just something I've learned. Great job by the way.
Just dish soap or does it matter?
Jason Ellis
Jason Ellis Sorry for replying back so late but yes just some dish soap should work. Just make sure it's not diluted too much so that it feels like a soapy film on your finger after dipping it. Again, sorry for the late reply.
yeah! You're back!
Jason! Good to see your video update! I have been working in commercial aviation for many years now, and I might be able to offer some ideas about applying pro-seal. If you are going to use the pint or quart kit, try taking a zip-loc bag, filling it with however much you need, and clip a bottom corner off to make something like a piping bag for bakers. Also, to move it around or smooth it out once it is on the aluminum, you can wet your fingers (spit, water, isopropyl alcohol) and it will move really easy. The spit sounds gross, but it seems to work the best next to the alcohol. There are places that sell sealant "spoons" made from brass to work it too. Aside from the pint and quart kits, they make them in tubes, all you do is get a tool to mix it with your drill, and put it in a sealant gun. If you'd like more info on that stuff let me know and I can provide more info. Keep up the good work!
Very much appreciate the advice Seth. I will try the ziplock back approach. Its getting easier the more I do it though.. hehe so that's good..
You've been doing a great job so far, looking forward to seeing videos of everything on the last build day!
+Jason Ellis Former fuel mechanic here, 9 years experience on integral fuel tanks. Using a tube of sealant with a semco sealant gun and sealant tip is so much easier for long seams. I use my finger to smooth out the sealant while wearing a latex glove, it is way easier than using a popsicle stick. Everybody is saying to use as much sealant as possible, but more important than that is to really smash the sealant into every Crack and crevasse as possible using either your finger or some kind of flat headed tool, then smoothing it all out. Keep up the good work, love watching your videos.
So I say to myself, "I wonder how Jason is doing?" And not two minutes earlier, I see you uploaded a new video. Sweet! Good to know that you are doing well. :)
Woohoo! love it when your videos show up in my subs list :D
I have been struggling with the same question you had, RV-10 or Velocity. I am one of the few that has watched every minute of your videos from empennage 1 thru wing 25 so far. You are doing an outstanding job and would keep these videos nearby should I start the Vans project. I am planning a Velocity tour and demo ride in the next couple of weeks and plan to make my decision by sun n fun in April. Keep up the great work.
Hi Jason. How about a few videos showing some more detail. Like how you set up your DDRT dimpler for different sized dimples. How you adjust and set the Pneumatic riveter when riveting different rivet lengths and skins. Great job by the way. I have built my own kit car and would love to build an RV10.
16:28 made me LOL... I had to scrap several sets of BDUs due to Pro-Seal contamination!!!
Ha, welcome to the club. Sealant is a bitch. You look like you are doing a great job so far.
I have to ask about three motorcycles I have seen at your hanger. A dark blue Kawasaki Concours, red and white Indian, white cruiser. Are they all yours?
Dark blue BMW K1600GTL (not kawasaki) was my main bike for years. I traded it in for the Indian. I wanted a cruiser for more slow enjoyable riding. (Though I like both). The white VStar950 is my wife's motorcycle. We only have the Indian and the VStar at this point.
Thanks for the reply. Nice Indian. Like the color combo. Keep building! :)
I missed the part where you built the wing holders? did you make them?
I did make them and I've not made that video yet.. I have been meaning to.. they are pretty simple.. just wood with some strapping to rest the wings in.
You were probably suffering from aluminum fever. 😀
I'm going to flip out if anyone even mentions "plumbers tape" in the hangar. NO TEFLON TAPE. TEFLON BAD. Plumbers tape is only SAFE when used on the fuel tanks of gliders.
So.. you're saying those gliders with sustainer engines.. use it there.. =p kidding..
What airport are you located?
www.airnav.com/airport/KDZJ
Hmmm... probably not going to make it there in my 172 lol. From KCRQ.
Well.. I mean.. You "COULD" do it.. but god.. why would you?! hah
I'd love to hang out there for a day, hell I'd sweep the floors and take out the trash to watch an airplane being built.
how many motorcycles do you have? I have seen three different ones. IN case you need 40K for an engine, you have three bikes to sell, hahaaha problem solved!
