As a Salah + Haaland owner myself and a team quite similar to yours, I couldn't understand this -8 you took at all. Salah is the standout captain in GW5, so there was no need to sell him before that. Defenders and GKs have low upside, so why take multiple hits for them? Was backing Palmer and particularly an inconsistent Chelsea after one good performance wise?
Hey cokey, crack-up name by the way! 🤣 Sure thing, I’ll explain my reasoning from slightly different angles to hopefully clarify the moves. Yes, Salah is the standout captain in GW5. However, if we’re sitting here in GW6 looking back with hindsight and Palmer has scored identical points to Salah up until and including GW5, would using Salah as the way to fund the hits make sense to you then? Selling Salah allows me to hold Gordon/Jota/Isak/Eze who were the other potential make ways, and I think they will all score more points than the 5.5m bracket which is where I would have otherwise needed to transfer down to. In short, the gamble I’m running is Palmer keeps pace with Salah & my 7.0m's outscore the 5.5m's. This has clearly gotten off to a horrible start with Palmer, Gordon & Jota all blanking and Salah smashing it, so it's a gamble that I’ll be reassessing heading into GW5. In terms of the hits: Hit 1 - Raya: Defenders and GK’s do have low upside, but one return (typically a clean sheet) repays the hit, so it’s not really about the upside. Taking a hit is gambling that the new defender will get a clean sheet in that gameweek with the sold defender losing theirs with the payback being the additional transfer you get to use down the line. I decided this gamble was worth it for the Brighton fixture, as it was the best shot at a clean sheet. The reason I prioritised it is that Raya is the cheapest & safest defensive insurance to block the 92% ownership and any unforeseen Arsenal clean sheets across the coming gameweeks. I was doubled up on Palace who look like they’ll consistently concede and so I took the hit to divest as quickly as possible to buy Raya before he rose, and ditch Henderson in case he dropped (albeit unlikely as GK's prices change slower). Hit 2 - Lewis Hall: I was predicting a loss of 0.2m of value in Lewis Hall across the international break if Hall was benched again against Spurs, and I did not want to play the remaining 35 gameweeks of the season down this much money on one player. Hence I spent 4 points to avoid this, but had the added advantage of an outside chance of the hit also being repaid in the gameweek. The outside chance did come through with Liverpool getting the clean and so I’m even further ahead on this move than I was willing to pay. i.e. I paid 4 points to play with 0.2m more team value for the remaining 35 gameweeks, which is a price I’m more than happy to pay.
Unlucky in some ways there, not a bag overall score. When you make a big change, its tempting to keep it going with a differential captain too, been there before. Are you planning where to wildcard?
Totally right mate, I shouldn’t have switched the captaincy, and rueing this decision. We live, we learn, and I’ll be a lot more careful with it in future. No plans to wildcard anytime soon mate, I’ll likely be delaying it closer to the end of the first wildcard window.
If there's one thing I've learnt already Steven its that Semenyo looks like the best 5.5 million midfielder in the game. Definitely looking to bring him in as a cheap enabler from GW11-GW20 when Bournemouth's fixtures start to look really good as people will not be on him unless he starts getting a lot of attention from returning repeatedly a couple of games in a row so you can most likely get ahead of the curve and gain points on him for a couple of weeks over everyone else.
I’m kicking myself that I didn’t go Gordon to Semenyo to fund the hits! I may in fact buy Semenyo to fund Salah back in GW5 if Palmer blanks in GW4, perhaps that’s the play I should make regardless given Semenyo is returning so consistently!

Yeap the captaincy decision was a mistake that was punished severely. 🤦♂ Joao Pedro helped saved my ass! Oh mate, Pedro benched and Palmer captain is pretty rough. Don’t judge your rank swing by how much damage has been done, it’s a hyper inflated measure that is one of the worst ways to track performance. It’s definitely not irreparable, lots of points to play for. The break is somewhat timely though.
Managed 101 this week, was a bit scared when Haaland got a hatrick but Salah matched him. Davis a great move too, no one has him (which does surprise me a little given his attacking potential).

I saw Estupinan come back for Brighton at the weekend. He will be a good option but I’d give him 2 to 3 weeks given the severity of injury and length of time out. He’ll be worked back into the starting team slowly.
Every time I've got against Haaland the last 2 seasons it's burnt me. Would probably be about a handful of times. Lesson learnt again! Still got 77 points so not the worst after I also captained Palmer. Watching the Liverpool match I was concerned with Jota's positioning. Luis Diaz looks the much better asset but he's gone up in price now

The United vs. Liverpool match is always such a big match that I wouldn't be too concerned about a change of role for Jota, he'll probably revert to type against Forest next week.

United definitely helped Salah out in that last game haha, but yes, they have both been playing extremely well. 💯 If Palmer doesn’t haul against Bournemouth then I think I’m going to have to go straight back to Salah in GW5, but I’m hoping that I don’t need to because I’d like to see how the new UCL format affects the big players like Salah as I think, similar to Watkins, Salah may be at risk for 70 minute games in the premier league when it kicks in, which I think would make Palmer the better asset.

I also put quite a lot of faith in Palmer to keep pace with Salah knowing that United’s defence is shaky. So a couple of mistakes that compounded into a pretty rough swing. With hindsight, the best move to fund the hits would’ve been to hold Salah and sell Gordon to Semenyo. I would’ve then had Haaland captain, Salah’s 17 points & Semenyo’s return over Gordon. That’s actually quite a brutal swing and I’m now kicking myself that I didn’t even consider it. We live, we learn.
Am I the only one who thinks there has been a change in price changes? From experience, last season I believe the max someone could go down or up in a week was 0.1, but now everyone's price is going up and down like crazy!! Was I just totally oblivious last season or have you guys also replied this?
@@oliverlewis3126 I think they altered the price change rules a couple of seasons ago, not many seasons though, it was pretty recent. But, it wasn’t really announced by FPL towers very well, probably because they seem to want to avoid discussing price changes at all. So, lots of FPL players missed the rule change altogether.
@MrSitemaster2 You know what, there's actually not as many concessions as I thought there would be. This would have been an amazing ghost-ship team to try out. A ghost-ship team is where you set and forget the team at the start of the season and only make a transfer if someone has a season ending injury or gets transferred out of their club. It could also be an intriguing free hit team at some point in the season too! However, the main disadvantage I can see with this team is that it would be very hard to maintain throughout the season as you couldn’t transfer Rogers, Winks or Ui-jo too easily without downgrading one of the premiums, immediately breaking the.... hmmm, hexmium?, draft.

A player can only rise up to £0.3 per week and can only rise £0.1 per night.

I think the template is clearly: Haaland, Salah, 2 premium defenders, and 1 or 2 other premium MF's.
4 premium attackers and 2 premium defenders sounds like an incredibly hard team to build without major sacrifices. Have you got an example team?
